People are so helpful!

Eesh, just let me unlock and then duty finder the last 2 level 80 dungeons in peace. I'm guessing this guy assumed I was going to try raiding with ilevel 406 gear or some crap.

How would that impact crafting gear, or you think that might delay it?
Well we don't really know much about how it'll work nor what the rewards for it will be. It's very unlikely, but they could lock new gear behind it or make some of the seasonal rewards for it so OP that they last until 6.0. If there was anytime to shake up endgame crafting/gathering this cycle, now would be it with Ishgard.

I really wonder how ranked rewards are going to work for Ishgard Restoration. I wonder if they'll only be available for a limited time or if the ranking system will last forever. I hope they talk more about it in the Live Letter.

Who the fuck is out here just randomly inspecting people's gear and looking at their materia
Literally the only time I've inspected people's gear was to see what glam they're using
What a fuckin weirdo

Not sure why you felt the need to buy gear off the MB though, the free ilvl 430 left side + weapon the MSQ provides you plus whatever accessories you have from MSQ dungeon drops should be enough to get you into the level 80 dungeons which drops ilvl 430 accessories

A couple of days back people were telling, in the alliance chat, to people stop playing and desinstalling the game because we were wiping on a raid.

So yeah, bad apples and all that... I only check people's gear cuz of glamour.

I like to inspect ppl in ironworks craft gear, full hq set and zero melds in it, so they essentially spend few million Gil at least on the stuff instead of spending under half of that on lower gear+some melds that end up with higher stats than the IE set

I wasn't aware the MSQ gave a full set of gear until after I'd bought stuff. I was in upgraded storm blood tomestone gear all the way to 80 and hit cap quite a bit before even finishing the Eulmore MSQ :(

Not a big deal really. You can sell or convert your 406 gear or use it for glam

Listened to the Heavensward OST earlier today, love so many tracks including the Ishgard track, but why does it need to be 13 mins long? It loops 3 times.

Yeah I never meld because I just don't like melding materia to gear that I'll only have temporarily. I know I can just remove it but it's just like a pet peeve of mine. I wonder if I'm a liability because of it in Extreme trials.

Thanks! I have some +60, a couple of +40 and more +20. I guess I just meld the +60 then +40 then the +20. I just assumed 60 were VIII, 40 were VII and 20 were VI. That's what made sense to me anyway.
The reasoning is VI and VIII can't be overmelded, they're only for the normal sockets, while VII(and V in SB) can be overmelded in crafted gear. They didn't want to have people who stockpiled SB materias to have an advantage in melding new gear, so they added both a new max materia and a new overmeldable materia. But for dungeon gear and stuff since these can't be overmelded, it's either VI or VIII, and since VIII are expensive and you don't want to drop them in random gear, VIs are what you should use, they give more stats than VIIs and can be removed 100% of the time, so for example you can meld all your leveling gear and just remove and remeld stuff as you go(a lot less annoying if you're a crafter however, otherwise probably not worth the hassle).

I reached my first job class yesterday -- bard. Fourteen instruments to play with! I fiddled around until I figured out how to play Aerith's theme and then I did it with every instrument in a row. I was at the amphitheater in Gridania and several people came by and pulled out glow sticks of some sort and cheered.

It was quite an experience.

"Liability" is a strong word, but if you are doing EX (and even thinking about Savage a little) you should definitely be melding. Even just using VI is better than nothing at all. They are dirt cheap, it takes a couple of seconds of effort, and it can have a large impact on your DPS/damage reduction/outgoing healing.

VIs are your best friend before getting BiS because you can remove them with 100% chance and they're second only to VIIIs, which have a 40% chance of successful removal.

I did the Titania and Innocence extreme with no real problem without melding but I did feel kinda dirty. I also don't use potions in my DPS rotation. I refuse to buy them. I'm scum. To be fair, I only do harder content as healer.

Potions are an actual continuous cost, and are generally pretty expensive(haven't played since launch so might have gone down a bit) although you can grab basic ones for cheap at a vendor in crystarium iirc but overall I don't think anyone expect other people to pot in pub content unless you're wiping at 1-3% on a savage fight.

Materias(VIs) tend to be cheap, anyone who played a bunch in SB probably has like hundreds of the crystal things you can turn in for materias from 24man/roulettes/khloe/whatever else they dropped from and they're mostly a one time cost if using VIs(you can just swap them to your new gear whenever, even without a crafter/someone else it's only 1200g per materia and you don't change gear that often). Food is somewhere inbetween but decent food doesn't cost too much and lasts a fair amount of time, even just the vendor stuff from crystarium is nice enough.

Ultimately you can do all content without melds, food or potions, although in the case of ultimates it'd be tough to do with no one in the raid with them, but the rest of the content you definitely can, doesn't really mean you should though. It's a bit like not looking up your rotation or not DPSing as a healer or not dodging stuff as a tank/DPS, you can still clear but you're just shifting some of your weight onto other people's and hope they'll carry you. It's not that much for melds/consumables but it's also not much time/money to invest to fix materias/food.

I have like a hundred cracked planet clusters (whatever is called, the item you can exchange for VIII materia). Is quite easy to get them with roulette and the hunt

wow, random tells are so rare in this game. My last few randoms were someone asking about a barding in SB, some people complimenting my 3 minute Roe alt and....some personal FC msges and that's it. Shower me with hate, i'll take it.

Materia doesn't matter in this game because SE doesn't want you to tinker with builds or excel at anything. Stay low like a good peasant. 1% raiders will care about your melds and that's it.

I have like a million cracked clusters so I guess I can go ahead and meld all the i400 gear for my alts and the 450 that I have for my healers. I'm actually not sure what stat I should focus on though. I have:

WHM
AST
PLD
GNB soon
NIN
SAM
RDM
MNK
DNC soon
MCH soon

In the past I've given healers vitality, PLD vitality and determination, and NIN direct hit. Not sure what's optimal though.

Ugh, matches have been painful tonight. It's a bit annoying that AST are so far above other healers in the Feast that you feel like you are playing at a disadvantage if you have a WHM on the team... nevermind a SCH who pretty much guarantees a free win to the opposing side.
The only good thing about AST is a dead mode that no one plays, let's feel a little good about ourselves.

Materia is not important because, thanks goodness, SE wants to avoid elitism and toxicity against players that won't aim to the best stuff/BiS or people can't complete mid-level content because they don't have fully optimized materia, so it only matters enough for the 2% of population that really needs it, as it should be.

Same as crafted armor and a lot other stuff that made XI and similar older MMO's a grindish nightmare.

Thinking off buying the PS4 version and linking it to my SE account I use to play on PC. If I buy it (ffxiv complete edition) directly from PlayStation store will I get sent the registration code that I need to do that? Or would I be better off buying the digital PS4 version from amazon or something? I play on PC with a controller and while I don't intend to make PS4 my main platform sometimes it would be nice to just play it casually while hanging out in my living room.

PS4 licenses are linked to SE accounts when you boot up the game for the first time, it'll ask you to attach a SE account to your PSN account, attach the same SE account you're using it on PC. There's no registration code you put in MogStation.

It doesn't matter where you buy it from, it works the same from anywhere

Finally, PLD is at 80. Now I just need to do the tank and magical DPS role quests. I'm finally finished leveling jobs this expansion.

I got into the the 2nd Ivalice raid. Honestly it was the first time I felt totally underprepared, but at least we got through it. That means that my goal of getting at least all normal stuff done in a timely fashion is getting close, just the final 24 man and then Alphascape 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 to go I think.

Stormblood post game content
The lead up to the 3rd raid makes no sense if your character is a Veira, LOL Everybody is standing around talking about how shocked they are to see a Viera, and my character is standing right next to them.

At the risk of sounding like I'm more taken aback than I am or something, I'm surprised that the MMO vernacular for the number of people participating in a dungeon/raid/whatever is x-man and not x-player. It feels kinda reductive and archaic to me but I can tell from reading this thread that it's simply an MMOs 101 term.

It sounds kinda goofy to me but lol.

Welcome to MMO terminology, people came up with the slang in the late 90s/early 00s (or earlier in many case, a lot of RPG terms dating back to the 80s and shit like "proc" came from MUDs I think) and haven't changed it since

I'll just "do me," as they say! I'll confess to an uncontrollable grimace whenever I see it though.

Really curious what they'll do to SMN to make them a little less busy. Been itching to get back to playing mine. SAM is still my jam with some SCH side action.

There's a new ninjutsu system? Please no. I don't like change. They're gonna pull amp AST or some shit.

I think the last time they talked about it, they described it as being similar to DNC's dancing skills.

A: Many players provided feedback regarding ninja, so we touched on the topics via a presentation slide.

The development team believes the following three points are the main issues:

Ninjutsu and mudra combinations being disrupted by GCD timing causes clunkiness.
Ninjutsu is easily influenced by lag, and we were reaching a limit as to how we could adjust it, so we are planning to restructure ninjutsu itself. The playstyle of putting mudra together will remain, but they will not be weaved between GCDs.

Instead, we are thinking the playstyle would be something along the lines of:
Use a combo > use ninjutsu > return to combo

However, this change would require readjusting ninja's entire DPS, so we were unable to make the adjustments in time for patch 5.05. Therefore these adjustments will be made in patch 5.1.

Too many inputs are required to perform rotations for maximum damage output.
In order to reduce input complexity, we are currently considering reducing the number of combo routes from 3 to 2.

The party utility of Trick Attack and ninja's total damage output need to be balanced.
Ninja has a lot of influence over a party's overall DPS by increasing damage dealt to an enemy through Trick Attack, so ninja's personal DPS has a trade off relationship with Trick Attack's effect. With that being said, ninja's personal DPS currently seems to be a little low, so we'll be making adjustments in patch 5.08.

However, please keep in mind that those adjustments may be readjusted again when we make changes to ninjutsu in patch 5.1.

I'm not gonna say I despise any piece of MMO slang outright, but as someone who hasn't been using these terms for a very long time like some people have (read: I did not know what "proc" meant a year ago, FFXIV is my first "big boy/girl/person" MMO outside of very briefly dabbling in GW2 a few years ago), I think a lot of them are really dumb
