The housing on Twintania is limited to grand companies only at the moment. There's lots of plots open, the majority of them haven't been taken. Will they all sell pretty much instantly once players can buy them too?
Probably. If you want to get one you'll probably need to log on as soon as servers go up and beat everyone else to the placard.

I'd expect most if not all of them to be gone quickly, although I guess it depends on how developed the server's economy is.

I would not expect to get one if you aren't one of the people immediately trying to get one whenever they open up private sales

I'm at 3.4 M right now, so I'm actually pretty close. I'll keep an eye out then, and be prepared for the camp. Maybe, like people said, when other people relocate I can jump on one. I don't really want a big house, I just want a small one, enough to place my growing furniture collection from random quests.

For reference, it took me like 3 weeks of dedicated camping to get mine. I work from home so I was able to sit in front of a placard all day. Most of them sold while I was sleeping, though (between 2am and 9am Pacific time plus or minus a few hours). Probably lost ten or so houses via not clicking fast enough. Just be patient and you'll get one eventually, but it will be a marathon.

Also, if you have a macro keyboard you may want to macro the hotkeys to activate the placard and attempt to buy it (Numpad 00040). This is technically against the TOS but as long as the keyboard just strings the keyboard events together and you don't make it super obvious (people will be able to stand between you and the placard and interrupt your targeting of the placard but your macro will keep running if you aren't there to stop it) no one will really be able to tell. Also don't go AFK for long periods of time, because there's nothing that makes it more obvious that you're using said macro than the house getting bought and you continuing to click on the placard for minutes/hours. I would not leave the keyboard for anything longer than a bathroom break, it's mainly just to save your wrist and hand from injury.

I just started playing this game, level 18, and I'm wondering how healing works. I'm coming from WoW and I'm use to mouseover macros over raid frames (grid+clique). Is there a way to simulate this type of playstyle?

You can use abilities on mouseover target via the in-game macro system. Example in the top comment here. Macros are kinda sluggish though (you can't queue your next ability during the GCD if it's used with a macro), so you may find it better to just use keyboard shortcuts and/or target them via clicking the party frame.

Also, you'll be DPSing as a healer a lot more than you did in WoW, so you won't need to constantly be juggling party targets.

Generally speaking, you shouldn't be macroing your spells because of queueing reasons. The exceptions to that are resurrect spells (to inform the party that you're doing it and who's coming up), or if it's something that you apply to a more-or-less pre-defined target (A Paladin has skills that can be used to help mitigate damage for their co-tank, for example, who is probably always going to be second on their list).

You can't really get a grid like you're probably used to, unfortunately, just the vertical party list. That said, the best way to do it is to use the F1-8 keys to select individual party members, then hit the appropriate heal. If you're clicking, that will save you some mouse movement.

And yeah, fights are mostly scripted, and damage will come out at specific intervals. The goal is to heal just as much as you need to, and fill the rest of your time with deeps.

I've been using target of target macros for DPS when healing - i.e. I target tank, heal as needed, and have macros for Stone/Aero that cast them on whatever my target is targeting that I can spam the rest of the time. Is there a better way to manage targeting as a healer? I've tried soft targeting the mobs directly but it feels really clunky doing it that way. Pretty sure I'm missing something.

I remember when I did this for the Shirogane housing when it first opened up. Ended up getting it but it was so stressful. I had a friend with the marriage ring go to the same plot in a different ward (discussed in advance) just in case the plot I went to got sniped xD

Just use the target of target bind without macro? Tap once, cast dot or what ever and tap again back to tank

I think I probably should all my crafters to 70 this week which will officially make things better for repairs. I also got all of the handkings sets and the tool so when I'm 70 I'm geared up.

I'm a level 19 archer/level 6 rogue now, having just recently been permitted airship passage from Gridania to Limsa.

I'm doubtful that I'll ever get invested enough in the multiplayer shenanigans to successfully translate a few of those posts above mine into English (:P) but I'm really enjoying the sense of single-player adventure involved. Getting to a point where I can begin to appreciate the combat system for what it is, too.

That's enough to buy most of the small plots (they range from 3.75 to 3, house is another 500k on top of the plot price, but you have like 45(?) days to put a house on the plot and go inside to reset the demo timer), so I'd consider trying to scoop some of the small plots (from people who relocate) that go up for sale on the 29th, it'll probably be the single largest amount of housing to go on the market at one time until Ishgard housing comes out

FWIW, I felt the same way when I started ("I just want to play it like a normal single player FF game since I've heard it's the best FF in years but SE is forcing me play with other people in dungeons/trials and pay them $13 a month") and then I got a lot more into the MMO side of the game when I joined the Era FC and I've enjoyed the game a lot more since then, you might end up getting deeper into the multiplayer side of things than you think if you join an FC or interact more with one you're currently in

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think housing plots should be about 3 times the cost they are now. I remember when they first released housing in ARR every housing ward was empty for weeks because no one could afford the prices. In later patches they lowered the prices and never messed with them again even though there's a lot more gil in the game now. Having a large plot be like 150million and a medium be 60 million would encourage players to pool their money together into a shared FC plot like we did way back when it was still the GAF FC. This builds more of a community experience where people hang out at the shared plot instead of going off to their own houses.

Or I dunno, I could be completely off and this wouldn't change anything. It seems like there has to be a better way to dole out housing than who is lucky enough to get to the placard first.

I think Yoshi-P/the dev team still holding onto the "community experience of living in a neighborhood" is really the biggest problem. Just make instanced housing. I've literally only seen 7 people in my ward, 6 of them were people camping plots and one actually lived there, but they were just hitting their training dummy. There's zero sense of community in most wards. A lot of people don't really care about the neighborhood concept, including me, I would have just bought instanced housing instead of camping plots

Failing that, if it was up to me, I'd implement a lottery system, you can enter the lottery for a plot if you have enough gil to buy it, lottery is open for a few hours, winner has 24 hours to claim it or else it goes up for lottery again. There's zero reason anyone should have to be pressing buttons for hours on end. It's my understanding that camping plots isn't really a thing on JP servers and thus Yoshi-P doesn't care, so I doubt the housing system will change anytime soon

I think making it more expensive would probably entice people to buy gil, so that's probably the biggest problem with very expensive plots. I'm not sure what a better solution might be, but I also don't think housing should be limited in this strange way they currently have it set up.

Oh, and I switched GC to Maelstrom this morning, and it already feels so much better for PvP. The queue is a bit longer, but it's totally worth it.

Well they have hinted at housing in Ishgard being the ultimate reward for participation in Ishgard restoration, and I assume if they do that it will be instanced housing. So that could be something good in that you have to work to get it and if it's instanced it's unlimited.

Outside of just adding more wards, the best thing they could do is expand on the apartments to alleviate some of the housing shortage. Allow players to upgrade their size and allow a little bit of gardening at the largest size. If they feel really spicy, maybe let a small group room together or something.

How do white mages usually deal with mobs in dungeons? Throw up dots on all of them and chuck rocks? Kinda like a spriest in wow

If you're doing multiple packs at once I will apply DOTs while gathering them up and then just Holy/nuke once they are all together. Not much point applying DOTs once they're all gathered up because they typically die pretty fast at that point.

yeah just apply dots while on the move and commence the holy spam, also renew+weave divine benison on tank(this should ideally be weaved in every time its up), dropping asylum where the tank stops is good. Dont be afraid to use tetra and bene on trash, the less gcd heals you use the better

Well there it is, finished the ARR base story quests and now I will go into the dreaded (as I have read) 2.1-2.5 msq...

Really liked the way base ended, was fun even though that final dungeon had a bit to many cutscenes.

Any advices for this stretch before Heavensward? I was thinking of leveling up a new class, maybe a caster, but I guess that would take a long time (already have drgoon and paladin lvled up to 50 since I only have the base game).

Well, reached Heavensward, looking back I see I am 10 days from a month since I said this? Time goes by so fast.

I think the talk about this post 2.0 msq talk is way overblown, in my opinion it had the best dungeons so far and bosses (Ramuh was hype as hell.), if you were enjoying the game before 2.1 I don't see why you would not enjoy this part of the game.

Ended up also levelling up a Scholar to try out heling, I now have a Paladin, Dragoon and Scholar at lvl 50, love all the playstyles, tank might be my favourite though.

For the first time I can say I am HOOKED on a MMO, loving this game! And the fact that people say it only gets better from here gets me extremely excited.

And Summoner, too! All you have to do is equip a different book and some casting gear. Scholar and Summoner have a shared EXP pool, which I think is pretty neat.

I really liked Scholar, the critical hit Adloquiums are so satisfying.

Once you get Holy, it'll probably become one of your best friends in terms of spells to use in dungeons. The AoE+stun effect is really nice. Later on you'll get Assize, then blood lillies and Aflatus Misery, so you have a decent tool kit to do some AoE damage as you continue to level.

Still working through Shadowbringers storyline, but I'm curious, how is the pugging raiding scene via duty finder like? I ask because I currently main Ninja but I hear talk about it being low tier in the current meta.

for savage-tier raids you'll usually be pugging through party finder, not df/raid finder. and generally all the jobs are balanced enough that only the pickiest groups will turn you away as long as you aren't a duplicate job or they aren't overfilled on a single role (ie, don't want four melee)

My previous attempts at playing the game had only managed to get me to around level 45 in the story, mainly due to me hating combat as a WHM. After hearing so much praise about ShB and the upcoiming Nier raid, I decided to once again try and get into the game although this time around I changed to a WAR and later a GNB.

Last night I finally got to the end of Shadowbringers, and damn was that journey amazing. I managed to stay mostly unspoiled, so I experienced all the highs of each patch and expansion pretty much one after the other over the course of a month. Hell, I Didn't even watch the ShB intro until much later in the story, so I had no idea what to expect about what characters were going to be in it. It's going to be strange going forward though with the story coming bit by bit each patch instead of all in one go like I just had.

I have mostly just focused the main story and haven't done any other activities, so now I have to figure out everything else there is in this huge game.

Just finished ARR before leaving to work... Goddamn, I need to start Heavensward right fucking now.

Man, the moment Raubahn kills that fucking lalafell... the satisfaction, I even clapped. This was such a really good moment (all of the ending).

But really, they need these changes to the base game as soon as possible, I got two friends to buy Shadowbringers, they're playing through ARR right now, and while they are enjoying it I'm not sure I'll have them playing with me in Heavensward (and forward), the post credits stuff is nightmarish to go through. Like, really fucking bad. The payoff was worth it I think, but yea...

Housing seems super weird to me. The Gridanians are ever-watchful of sleights against the elementals to the point of not allowing many Ali Mhigo refugees into their hamlets. Yet the Lavender Beds is this sprawling space filled with extravagant dwellings that any adventurer with a ton of cash can enjoy. The whole concept strikes me as... odd.

I think I'd prefer a system where, like, you step inside an area and it only has just the one house — your house — but other players will see their houses instead. That would feel less asynchronous with the overall presentation of the lore. It would also give me way more incentive to care! I'm in a local friend's Free Company. It's called Symphonic Rain and it's on the Leviathan server. I went there for the first time and I was like, "Well this is swanky... anyway, bye!"

...and I said it alone, too, because nobody was around — anywhere on the ward!

5.1. I hope you already own a small and are ready to stay up late/get up early on patch day
5.1 means most likely Oct 29 by the way.

The lodestone specifies that the new wards are for Free Companies first. So if you're looking for a personal you better already own a plot and be up when patch is released (i think it's usually 2am or 4am?)

Finally hit 80 on a second job today (RDM). MSQ Roulette wasn't the only thing I did, but those Praetorium runs sure give a nice chunk of XP lol. I think if I can manage to squeeze in one more week of Eden normal runs before 5.1 hits I should have the job all geared up for the new 24 man, which will be nice.

It depends on what plot you want but if you don't have a FC you gives 3 fucks about I'd recommend starting one and turning in gear from Trust runs on Shadowbringer dungeons (Or if you can solo a Stormblood dungeon in like 15 minutes). You'll reach rank 6 pretty fast and can start your housing life.

Either that or just hop on and get a house when personal buyers can. Usually The Goblet is the last to go. You should be able to get a house without any major issues.

76-80 you can do the leve crab fish. They're extremely easy to get and you can turn in a good batch of them.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. I'm on Twintania which is a new server so housing has never been open to individual buyers. In the Goblet, most wards have maybe half a dozen or less houses taken and the rest are empty. I'd assumed this would make it fairly easy to get a small house but it sounds like that's a bit optimistic.

I used to have a house and honestly I never felt any motivation to use it. I think the idea works better as an FC base kind of thing with the workshop and shared amenities and as a hub for members. Not to invalidate people having their own space though. I've seen some really amazing house layouts and decoration.

Just now finishing up Rak'tika Greatwood, but already hit 80 on Warrior as my first job to cap. Still rocking Scaevan stuff I upgraded, but I'll probably be out of that soon.

Really enjoying the story but I'm way more invested in learning more about Ardbert than the Lightwarden hunt or the Crystal Boi, and I definitely want to see the other Role quests eventually. I read there's an exp boost for lower level fighting jobs - is that true?

I want to moderately ready for the Nier stuff, but there's so much I had to skip over trying to get to the end of the ShB MSQ. I Want to eventually see the 4 Gods quest lines, and try getting some awesome Eureka armor since I love FFXI gear even though I poked my head in and it looks confusing as hell in there. SB Hildibrand quests too. Man it's rough.
