RDM Melding - getting conflicting info, though I'm sure either way is better than nothing. What's priority? I've seen Crit > Direct Hit > Determination but also seen Direct Hit > Determination > Crit.

I'm pretty clueless to melding in general, but figured I'd ask for a quick confirmation.
9 times out of 10 it's gonna be Crit > DH > Det

Holy crap doing housing is unintuitive

Yeah, lofts are considered tables and not floors, which is a pain in the ass.

This YouTube channel has a lot of good tutorials on glitches/tips and tricks for setting up housing. Would also recommend https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivhomeandgarden/

Same here 😩

Trying to get it all done before Ishgard launches. I have enough solutions for the first 3 Facet pieces and will have pretty much all week to work on it so I think I'll be able to do it.

I beat ARR the other day! Well, the launch content, anyway. Lovely ride. Turning a critical eye toward the main story, I admit it really wasn't all that hot overall, but I still enjoyed it more than several Final Fantasies. The saving grace therein is that I know this is only the beginning. If this had been the entirety of an FF's storyline I wouldn't have been satisfied because when I think about the big events it quickly occurs to me that there's a lot left unsaid and undone.

But the game continues. And thus, I am stoked. <3 Also, this might just have the best worldbuilding in the franchise.

Heavensward is my favorite FF story of the past 15 years or so. Just a really great main storyline even despite a few missteps moogles with great music, great characters and an incredible narrative payoff in the end. Looking forward to you getting there.

WRT the conversation about healers not ressing, I find myself not doing so when a DPS seems to be really struggling with mechanics. End up holding onto that swiftcast/mana for someone who knows the fight a bit better or is in a more critical role.

Or if a DPS pulls a boss and takes a big tank buster before aggro is pulled off, cause in that case I find it funny 😅

That's seriously high praise coming from you! I have heard nothing but positivity surrounding Heavensward's story. I never thought I would play an MMO, yet here I am, more excited to experience this expansion's narrative than anything since XII. (When XIII and XV were on the horizon, I looked forward to them both to varying extents, but I didn't expect to be wowed by the story either time, and well, I wasn't.)

What's the rough estimate on the amount of mobs where Flare becomes more effective than Fire II? I got in the habit of easily Freeze/Flare/Flare'ing my way through Expert roulettes, but while Tanks are still trying to get comfortable with The Grand Cosmos and pulling single groups at a time, I'm wondering if Fire II is better if it's only a small pull?

Is there ANY reason to use Fire II at Level 80? Or has it just been completely relegated to level-sync'd content where you don't have access to your full kit (specifically Aspect Mastery)?

Question, I'm replaying the MSQ on my alt and my GF is watching me play to catch the story for the first time. I'm close to the end of ShB,
About to do the Amaurot dungeon and Dying Gasp tonight

My question is,
is there a break between the last fight and the entire ending sequence, or does it lead into the whole ending as soon as you finish Dying Gasp? I just want to know if I have a chance to break after the fight. I want to say you choose to initiate the ending but it's been months since I beat it so I don't remember.

The final cutscenes are triggered only if you click on the exit portal that appears after you clear The Dying Gasp. So that there is your break should you need it.

Nice, the Black Mage guide here answered my Flare question from earlier. It makes absolutely no mention of Fire II at all, just about which situations to use Fire III before the Flares and when to cast Flare straight from UI phase, which I also wasn't completely sure about.

I don't mean efficient healers who do their job, I mean the ones that will let you stay dead for half the fight from one death and let be known that they command the party above all others. Leaving a dead dps and focusing on your own is worse dps output than raising said dead member asap. It's one thing if they're always standing in aoe, it's another if you think you should only have to use ogcds on occasion and click your teeth at a death.

There have been a few rare times where I've stopped raising someone because they were just an absurd burden on my MP pool and the DPS gain from raising them didn't justify putting the clear at risk. This usually against bosses like the final boss in the vault where some people just die repeatedly and I get worried about MP.

Fire 2 is a garbage spell and Flare out DPSes it by a significant margin.

So is 5.11 supposed to come out next week? or is that not known yet?

One week from today. It will have Ultimate and Ishgard reconstruction I think.

I'm never going to do Ultimate but I do enjoy watching streams when it comes out. Watching players deal with the bonkers shit they throw at you in Ultimate is always fun.

If you're not synced down, you shouldn't use Fire II. Basically you use Fire II only until you can Umbreal Heart flares, which is 68, past that it's a useless button. Even before that it's not that great versus just spamming Freeze because of the Fire III to switch back and the longer cast time. It is better but only slightly.

Got my Yorha gear for the week. Happy I didn't have to fight anyone over the roll.

But of course, nothing from the end. Highest I rolled was an 85 and I knew it was pointless.

The most important strategy while playing Black Mage is to not play Black Mage in any content below level 60 because the low level rotation is garbage.

Only have to worry about Fire II until Qarn, after which you'll forget it exists until you see a fellow BLM spam it in like Bardam's Mettle and proceed to die inside.

what are the situations where you'd use Reprise as a RDM now that it's been buffed? It still seems very situational, is it basically just when a boss is leaving an arena and you want to get off an instant cast?

I think Reprise main point is simply to have an instant cast for when you're forced to move but can't get a quickcast first, you can at least throw a Reprise as a filler. It's a fairly niche use but it can be useful during prolonged movement phases(you're getting chased by the aoes that follow you around) if you don't have swiftcast/if swiftcast isn't enough on its own. Better something than nothing basically.

You'll want to be ilv470 w/ Eden Weapon with i440 food. The fights are designed with that much vitality in mind.

Edit: You'll also need E4S to be completed to attempt it as well in case you want to wait until patch 5.2

I will most likely never do it even if I get the iLvl. I've watched videos of previous ultimates and that sounds like torture especially since I don't have a static. Also only 449 right now.

They're the kind of fights you enjoy because you enjoy progression in savage content.

Something something its about the journey not the result.

Think I might level healers through Frontlines. Funnily enough, I actually enjoy it and don't feel that crushing sense of personal responsibility that I normally get from PvE. Playing healer in PvP, you have a limited rep of spells so it's much more about soft skills and situational awareness.

Ok, I still don't get what's great about the new TCJ for NIN.

When you guys explained it to me that now it's 3 buttons instead of 6, I thought "oh, so in the time when you would normally hit the ninjutsu button you can move to the next mudra instead and get 6 attacks in during TCJ instead of 3", but nope it caps out the same and because you have to wait for the GCD between each of them it's not any faster than before when you could easily hit the ninjutsu button after each mudra before hitting the next mudra.

So the only difference I can tell about TCJ is you press 3 less buttons, otherwise it's exactly the same. Unless I'm missing something I don't get why people talk about loving the new TCJ like it's a big difference.

Because it's significantly smoother to execute with minimal delay. 6 button input one was easier to mess up or you'd end up clipping slightly per input and losing 0.25s or so every TCJ. Just a basic QoL.

It's way harder to clip with the new one

Ok fair enough. I guess I've never played at a high enough/fast enough level of play to notice clipping even with NIN.

I hope they eventually move to a token system for the 24 man raid gear. Or at the very least put more than 2 armor items in each boss chest. Healer and casting gear have been very rare sights to see so far for me.

I don't think they're going to. They would've done it by around HW and they haven't run into that issue thanks to the fact that despite adding 8 jobs since 2.0 they've only added one gear set in ARR (Scouting).

Doesn't the last chest give 4 drops now for a total of 10 gear pieces? (I've only ran it once and made out with the healing body)

You're probably right, but I still want to dream lol.

Also you're right on the last chest having 4 armor drops, but it's also pulling from a larger loot pool according to this. The first 3 chests have 14 items that it pulls 2 from, and the last chest is 28 possible items. So if you're looking for a particular piece it's still only a 1/7 chance of seeing it in any chest. Though the last chest seems to mostly have items from the previous chests, so I suppose it's more a 'second chance' of getting an item that previously didn't show up.
Though my luck with these things is always awful. I guess I should be happy I got the 2B outfit already and just accept it's going to take me a hundred runs to get the rest of the glam I want lol.

People are really having trouble with the Grand Cosmos first boss and sometimes the final boss. This is how expert needs to be done.

Eeeeh. The dungeon itself isn't hard there's just some very annoying mechanics and its just the broom aoes which are kind of hard to figure out how big those AOEs expand (And where you should move the boss to position it so melee don't get screwed over).

The last boss is easy its just the whole blue fire or die mechanic that's eh. I had a run that ended in a wipe because there were two chandeliers and just me (AST), a mch, and the PLD alive and the MCH and PLD got rid of their debuff and I died and the PLD wasn't soloing it.

They could do better things but it doesn't feel like a good difficulty. Just weird mechanics that don't explain much of what's going on visually until its too late. The seed mechanic on the 2nd boss is far better.

Finished crafting all my Facet gear. I don't think I'll finish melding it before 5.11, but at least I was able to recoup some money - accidentally bought 90-odd varnishes instead of abrasives (I thought they were such a good deal on Excal, came back to craft and realised the horrible mistake I'd made...)
