I love how I was capped on Goetia prior to 80 on crafters and now it all gone. Guess I still have a reason to do expert roulette even though I'm capped on Phant

That's where I'm at.
Finished crafter facet set, and now beginning on working on the gatherer set and it's all "Well... I'm out of goetia again..."

How am I supposed to be using this "Dragon Sight" skill on my Dragoon? I've never really had to target a party member before playing a physical DPS, so I'm not quite sure the best way to go about this. Just hit F1-FX (depending on the size of the duty party), or do people use a macro with this skill? I tried to a mouseover macro, but kept getting an error that <mo> wasn't a valid target, so maybe I'm behind the times on the syntax or something (I haven't written one macro since starting to play again a few months ago).

If you ever get the "Beaver" related pixie beast tribe quest, purposefully fail it. Very much worth it.

Has been the opposite for me. Mael usually loses lately.
Depends on the day and how far we are in the patch it seems on Crystal.

When the patch first dropped Mael was getting ran over. I wasn't sure if it was because everyone transferred over for the wins to get the gear and bounce (which would even things out by filling Mael with bads) or if people were just not use to the changes in skills.

Then I noticed that no one was doing call outs or taking charge. Mael's power seems more like a combo of people who generally know what they're doing directing people who WANT to win even if they're not good so they follow directions. Flames seems to be the "Fight for 2nd" type and Add suffers for that.

On a personal note I wwas a new 80 Nin before the changes and now I'm completely lost on how I'm supposed to go about things.
Thinking I should just go MNK or something else for now. To any MNK players, is MNK super hard or is it fairly straight forward in what you're supposed to do and when? I've been leveling my alt with it and early levels SEEM straightforward enough ... but he still don't have the MNK job so even PoTD runs don't give me all the skills he should have.

Is the ERA FC fairly active? Thinking about taking the plunge and transferring. How many of the regulars in the thread are members?
It's fairly active. Total number of members usually hovers fairly close to cap, I'd say about 30-50 online at any given time recently? Obviously more closer to xpac launches/patches

EDIT: 44 members online out of 498 total members, as of writing

Summer Indigo Shirt and Slops are finally buyable at a reasonable price.
Pairs nicely with my Abroader Otter for trying to forget that it's now cold as fuck where I live (first snow of the season fell yesterday, had to scrape ice off my windshield this morning)

Hey gang.

Just resubscribed after about a 7-year hiatus. Last patch I played was ARR 2.5 (I think?).

So, I'm going to be playing through all of the expansion story content with my established L50 PLD. My question is, what would be the best way to reacquaint myself with tanking? Since I'm already level 50, I don't have tutorials to remind myself, and I'm not even sure where to start in even re-laying out my hot bars. Not to mention, it seems some foundational things about the way classes are played.

Anyone have any advice and/or resources for returning ARR veterans who have missed the past two expansions? Thanks much!

What I'd do is:
1) Throw your existing hot bars in the trash, entirely
2) Go to a training dummy
3) Hit the dummy while manually adding in actions from the Actions & Traits menu and use those actions
4) Keep adding skills until you reach level 50 skills
5) Keep hitting that dummy with the full level 50 kit until you get a flow for your rotation
6 (optional) ) If you think you need to refresh the very basics, hit up the Hall of the Novice
7) From there, play every dungeon in level order if you have time, if you don't have time, just try to generally run some dungeons starting from the low levels and then moving up to level 50

Don't have any PLD specific advice for you since I don't play PLD, and I don't know if this is the best method or anything, but if I was coming back from a super long hiatus, this is what I'd do

Nice screenshots. Yeah, the summer indigo shirt is one of my favorites of the recent glam items they added. Dyes pretty nicely and think it makes for some nice casual outfits. Took a pic with my favorite in-game doggo.

Alright, I need an answer to this question:

Is Estinien the only job-quest character who is also part of the main story? He keeps showing up here and there in Stormblood and Shadowbringers. The thing is, my original job was Dragoon, and I did the Dragoon job quests before I got to Heavensward. So is it just a giant coïncidence that he also appears in the main story quests? Also, is it possible that job-quest characters only appear in the main story if you have done their respective job quests? That's probably a no, as I don't think the main quest in this game is that flexible, but I'd like to know for sure.

I think some other job quest people appear here and there, but none nowhere near as prominently as Estinien. And yeah it's just a coincidence he showed up after you did the Dragoon quests. I think that other than a handful of dialogue boxes, everything about his appearance in the MSQ is the same for everyone.

There are a few. Estinien is the most prominent but off the top of my head the SMN job quest girl (who's Y'shtola's sister) shows up. I'm not sure on others as those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head outside of a few cut scenes and early on in Gridania if you start there the Conjurer and the Archer guild leaders show up. Also, no the MSQ does not change but there are changed lines depending on if you've done certain job quests.

Not the only one who shows up at all, but the only one who is a central character in the story.
Y'mhitra Rhul, Y'shtola's half sister, is the job quest giver for SMN and appears in the MSQ once
Kan-E-Senna's siblings are some of the class/job quest givers for CNJ/WHM
(those are the ones I know of at least)

Also, is it possible that job-quest characters only appear in the main story if you have done their respective job quests? That's probably a no, as I don't think the main quest in this game is that flexible, but I'd like to know for sure.
No. You'll usually get some minor text variations if you know someone from the job quests, though. DRG has a few text changes during the HW MSQ. Y'mhitra's dialogue when she shows up in the MSQ will mention if you already know her from the SMN job quests. I think there's an instance of a text change on some DoH job too

I love the Black Hayate but I've been too lazy to farm the ShB MSQ dungeons for that and Great Serpent of Ronka, hopefully I'll get around to doing Trusts eventually and they'll drop along the way. Maybe it's cheap now, I should check the MB

Great Serpent is a sidequest chain in Greatwood, not a dungeon drop.

I got mine on the MB for like a 100k a couple months ago so not too bad. Not sure if it's cheaper now. I ran Holminster Switch a bunch of times in trusts to level up as RDM and it never dropped, and kind of got bored of running it more, so I just bought it off the MB. It's basically the only minion I use nowadays so I suppose it was worth it for me.

144k on Ultros, oof
Maybe I'll check other servers

I don't know about that :( it's like 12 quests split over two quest chains.

It's cute enough to make up for it though.
12 quests are certainly easier and faster than trying to receive it as a dungeon drop, and you get half decent XP from the quests too

It's the cutscene style side quests so they are usually pretty entertaining to do. I always tried to do them as I was going through the game.

Much better xp from dungeons, but the quests were pretty nice so was worth it anyway imo. There's also a minion in the dungeon though, chameleon. Can probably grab it off the market board but not sure of the prices. I got most of them when I was leveling trusts(especially since I did half of them pre buff so it took a stupid amount of runs of each dungeon).

Obviously dungeons would give better XP, but I ain't kicking a few mil of XP out of bed either, y'know

Also, I actually got the chameleon from Qitana Ravel on my first run and sold it but forgot that until DrForester's post, once again proving that I am king of the dumbasses

I keep wanting to do the trusts, but then I think about doing all those dungeons runs back to back with no variety and then I'm like "nah" and just decide to stick to roulettes and pixie beast tribe quests to get from 71 -> 80, can't imagine how bad it was doing it before the nerf

Quest lines are a lot easier to knock out than dungeon drops. Even if you're organizing a group, specific things can be an absolute pain to get.
It took me something like 90 runs of Swallow's to get the Bonewicca Casting chest, and something on the order of 70 Gubal Hards for the Valkyrie's Striking Coat, lol.

Can't believe how fast you can level up DoL. Went from 60 to 77 in two days.

I jumped from like 58-62 on Miner just from turning in some Ishgard leves. It's nuts.

I see you've started the fun and exciting post-ARR MSQ quests, have fun with that, and by have fun I mean try to stay awake and try not to burn yourself out on doing MSQ quests. Make sure to intersperse other stuff like side quests or beast tribes or throwing an ungodly amount of gil into glams or throwing an ungodly amount of gil into an apartment/house (the two true end games of this game, glams and housing)

LOL! Yeahhhh, everybody has warned me about this rough patch of the game. (Or perhaps, "rough patches." Ohoho... I'm here all week.) So far so good, but I've dabbled in amazing content like part of the Hildibrand questline, so I should probably push myself through more MSQ fare before I've got nothing left but the grind!

Hey, everyone. Just a quick question.

Been working on my crafters/gatherers and my BTN / MIN are level 55. My crafters are in their 30s.

Mostly doing collectables in Mor Dhona, but I can't figure out how to get folklore tombs for gathering. Is this something I have to wait to start or am I just missing something?

So here's a weird one. I did "Braving New Depths," the Level 35 quest that unlocks the Sunken Temple of Qarn, several weeks back. I did the Sunken Temple of Qarn, too. Multiple times! And yet, I'm doing the Level 50 quest "Rock-solid Protection" now, and it's just... acting like I never did the Sunken Temple before and I've gotta queue up for it all over again!

If memory serves, you have to get folklore trade tokens with yellow scrips, and it's like 40 tokens to get a folklore tome. But, I think only the vendors in Idyllshire sell them so you may have to get them there?

Edit: Quinton your reaction is the same one we all had when they added the requirement to do Qarn for an msq quest in that patch 5 years ago.

Okay so this highly irrelevant for you for approximately 5 more levels. There are no Folklore nodes for ARR zones they're all easily accessed by hitting the damn thing. At level55 the only thing that might be useful for you is a Supra or Lucis tool but you can get i100 tools so lol.

Do your HQ turn ins for the GC or Levequests from Ishgard. Once you hit level60 I would buy gear that's level relevant and try your hand at custom deliveries with Zhloe so you can get the i180/i200 gear and unlock the HW folklore books w/ tokens at idyllshire

Tomes for HW areas are in Idyllshire, and you buy them with Scrips. They unlock level 60 nodes for collectibles, so don't worry about it right now. Focus on getting to 60.

The 60 i180 scrip gear is still worth grabbing. It'll make your life easier going into SB areas and save you some gil, and it's not super expensive or anything.
Augmenting it is nice, but probably not super necessary with how fast leveling is now.

And yeah, make sure to grab Zhloe so the scrips can come in a lot faster.

I've done the Copied Factory 10 times and I haven't seen a single piece of healer gear drop. Ever.

And I still haven't won any 2B outfit, card, minion, or orchestrion roll.

Sigh...

Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle, and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him.

Got the 2B glamour coffer on my second run of the raid. One run last week and one run this week.

ff1 hair that comes out of it.

I wasn't imagining things when I thought that the new hairstyle looked like the WoL from Dissidia when he's wearing his Red Armor.

Does this mean that this patch cycle we will be getting hairstyles from Dissidia characters?

How long do large raids (like Yorha) remain popular? I haven't started shadowbringer as of yet and was wondering if I'll have to worry about not finding enough people for the raid if I wait it out any longer.

All that sweet, sweet gear for Glamour. (And daily roulettes)

I did ShB like 2 years after release, so don't worry.

They will add the Nier raid to the Alliance Raid roulette with 5.2.

When they add the second part of the raid arc, the first raid will remain active since you need drops from both in order to upgrade the gear you get from weekly capped tomestones

Queues will start to get longer in a few weeks, but it'll remain popular during the expansion cause upgrades items for people who don't raid will be tied to it for the next 18 months.

They'll be populated throughout the expansion thanks to it being part of your weeklies, and eventually the roulettes. There will be longer queues during periods when the population naturally drops off from boredom, but it'll be possible to get into them no matter what.

That would change if they bring back the irregular tomestone event, but hopefully that'll stay gone for a good while.
