Am I going to be in trouble if I start Eureka in a week or two? I wanted to catch up on the MSQ and raids/trials before going in, but FOMO is starting to kick in pretty hard.

I doubt Eureka will be an issue until it's 2-3weeks before the expansion because of obvious time constraints, it should be populated until the expansion, people doing multiple relics or just catching up and stuff.

Anyone looking to transition from the demo version to the starter edition and still needs a Twitch prime code? Don't need mine.

I've fallen back into the fishing grind. @_@

some of these fish man...
Yeah some are really bad, especially in HW. Honestly SB was pretty good overall other than the couple of <1% uptime ones(and one of them is a white fish so no failling that one) and ARR is pretty trivial with all the higher lvl skills, but a bunch of the HW stuff is still really stupid. Sea Butterfly, Charibenet, Opabinia, Lord of Lords and Problematicus are just terrible, to mention a few of the most egregious. Then a few were especially annoying due to bad RNG even though they had pretty ok conditions(The Second One took like 700 baits and Madam Butterfly failed so many times).

Feels pretty good clearing the whole of it though, a much more rewarding achievement than completing the log for the 2 other gathering skills which takes like a couple of hours if that once you have the books.

Pyros is definitely nerfed from what it was originally, right?

I could probably finish this entire stage of the relic tonight or tomorrow if I reaaaaally tried. I just bought the logograms from the MB to save some grinding. Not worried about sub-stats yet either. But for the actual main part, I'm actually getting through this very quickly.

They doubled crystal drops or something like that and you can buy penny drops with crystals too so you don't to wait for heatwaves, so yeah much easier. Also as expected for the most part the logograms prices crashed pretty hard(but tactical went up or something). Light hasn't been buffed though, I'd expect they might do that in 4.58 or whenever they do the last round of current content nerfs.

But yeah it's pretty quick, I had most crystals I needed by the time I hit 50.

As far as I'm aware, light was buffed by virtue of the raw EXP gain being buffed since the two are linked. It's why if you do things at, say, 49, you gain a lot more light simply because of the EXP difference. I skipped doing Eureka until now and I've just been grinding light solo at about ~8-12 an hour on the good windows.

I just stayed grinding some rerolls before thinking of moving onto Hydatos yet. Considering the EXP curve after this is pretty light, might as well stay back for your substats first imo. Or you just plan to delevel later I guess.

I need to, but I'm too scared to even go in my first time.

I wouldn't. From what I hear the mechanics are pretty basic its just the ever loving nerve of possibly fucking them up. Either way my plan is:

•get i300/i290 accessories and meld Vitality. (I'm lucky enough to have a cassie earring)
•4 Offense, 1 Defense Elemental split
•Do prog fights with Wisdom of the Platebearer + Spirit of the Remembered x3.

Eventually I want to run it as BLM with Wisdom of the Elder and Magic Burst but I'll save that for when I'm comfortable with not eating mechanics.

I'm now level 65, slowly making it to my first 70. I'm on the verge of starting the Stormblood MSQ. These post-heavensward quests are okay, not as bad as post-ARR. Still a bit of a slog.

From what I can see I cannot do any class quests post 60 until Stormblood is started.

Also, is the Era FC still active on Ultros? I keep getting random invites to FCs but I'm not sure I'm staying on Ultros if an EU transfer comes up for free and/or I don't play hardcore enough to really do proper end game content. So, just looking to join something casual and when I'm around, I'm around.

Any tips for a still fairly new player heading into the later stages? Almost lv 35 with DRG right now and I feel I'm getting into the swing of the battles a lot more now I've got a more interesting hotbar. Working in stuns to hold off big attacks reasonably well too.

I still feel like there's so much to do and I don't know what to begin prioritising though. I've been grabbing all the blue quest marks that aren't for leves to unlock classes and other handy features but I've not really tucked into these other classes yet.

Should I put some time into getting armourer and blacksmith up soon or leave everything until I've hit the cap for the base game? Is there other important stuff I might have easily glossed over?

I don't think so - I would advise powering through 2.0 to unlock your standard features before branching out to crafting etc. until 50/60/70 depending on your preference. Not sure how DRG is skilled or played but once you get all your tools you might start to enjoy the job even more, I know I did with my current one! After you've hit level cap would probably be a comfortable time to branch out into crafting, gathering etc. but this is just my opinion.

You can't do the class quests until Stormblood, but unlike HW, you get the skills/traits as you reach the proper levels, other than the 70 skill which is a reward for the 70 class quest, so it's not a big deal like with HW where you can hit 60 and have no HW skill due to post ARR MSQ.

I would grab leves too, the original quest leve thing in each camp, to unlock leves for the future. Don't obviously take than that one but it'll save you some headaches if you want to lvl crafters/gatherers but haven't unlocked them since leves unlock sequentially(I think). You should pick all other blue quests and do them too, there shouldn't be that many tbh.

A handy link to figure out these things: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Guide:Progression_and_Level_Locked_Content

This lets you see all the content unlocks per level, and you can easily click on them to see where they're unlocked and what are the prereqs if any and also more importantly, what they actually do since not everything is very obvious when you get the quest. There's also a Heavensward and Stormblood tab for these.

I wouldn't bother with leveling crafting until 70, unless you really want to do some crafting. Crafting in this game is absolutely not like most other mmorpgs or your average single player crafting game. It has its own leveling systems, the classes have their own skills, there's a crafting minigame, you need to level all crafts to 15 at least and Carpenter to 50 to really do anything worthwhile with crafting(and preferably you'll also level most other jobs to 50-54 for cross class skills), and it costs a fair bit of money if you don't have an idea of what can be resold for a profit to level on, or if you're doing leves(which are the recommended way to lvl since they're much faster) or if you're gathering your own stuff. It's also pretty much entirely optional, there's no direct advantage to having crafts leveled other than being able to repair your own gear anywhere and save a bit of money doing so.

Basically, crafting is complex, and if you're already overwhelmed by the basic game, that's probably not a great idea. You can give it a try up to 15 though, you can buy all the stuff from the guild vendors right there and do a few quests and get a few skills to see how the system works.

Thanks for the tips! Think I will stick to just working on this class for now then and branch out down the line. Also will remember to grab the leves as I go. I kinda figured they were largely skippable but I suppose once I do branch out I won't have as many avenues to level them as I've had with the story to carry me.

So i decided to finally get back into this game. Never really played much to begin with. Keep hearing how good the game got so wanting to see for myself.

Looking to join Era's FC and am on Ultros. Trying to search for some of you guys to apply for it, but not having any luck. Char name is Aetton Staniclies if someone would be kind to help out.
If you haven't gotten in yet, try doing a player search from the Social menu. Leave the player name field blank, drop down to the location setting and check the "Kugane" box. You'll get a list of players and their free company tags, look for one that has "Era" under the company column. There's usually at least one of us AFK'ing there.

It's still around, not as active as it used to be during EU hours cause most of the EU players left when the EU data center was relocated. Join us using the instructions i posted above and if its too dead for you use the free server transfer in May to move to a EU server.

Prioritize the main story quest cause thats how 70% of the game unlocks.

I wouldnt worry about other classes or crafting till you at least finish ARR. All of it is optional and just something to do if you need a break from main story quest or just want to try a different job.

You can use this guide to see the unlock progression and what you might have missed so far: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Guide:Progression_and_Level_Locked_Content

Crafting and Gathering is ignorable entirely, if you want, but being self-sufficent is nice, and having something to do while you wait for longer queues is good. Go for Miner/Botanist before delving into crafting, imo.

Fishing is its own special kind of Hell.

Yeah, I've been playing the game for, according to steam, over 2000 hours. I'm only now getting around to half of the crafting jobs.

But not Cooking (or Alchemy). Nope...not yet..

Alchemy is very necessary for anything above 50 though, since it makes many of the intermediate crafts for stuff, including pretty much all of endgame gear at 60 and 70. And it isn't really any different to level than other stuff, uses a few more mats maybe but generally has some of the most efficient leves in terms of items used, as long as you have a combat retainer farming various monster items. Also the cross class skills are very good, so all in all, Alchemy is a pillar of crafting.

CUL on the other hand is kinda whatever, however sadly the cross class skills are VERY good, especially the 54 one, which mean you'll need to get at least 54 for endgame crafting(well technically, it's great for non spec, so if you were to only craft on specialist classes and swap them around, you could skip it but that seems unrealistic due to the 3spec change per week limit). It's a nightmare of inventory management though so I'd recommend getting it to 37 for Steady Hands II(which is great overall) then not touching it until you're done with the rest and have a bunch of inventory. Muscle Memory is great, but not indispensable I'd say, especially before endgame crafts where progress becomes quite crazy.

Ended up trying Eureka Anemos yesterday and played until my full timer ran out. I'm sure it's the honeymoon phase, but I absolutely loved it. Hit level 11, almost 12 by doing my challenge logs with a group. Just being in an open world and seeing people actually grouping and communicating brings warmth to my old-timey-MMO-player heart. The element system is not complicated but adds a degree of arcane knowledge that also reminds me of those old games where the systems were inscrutable until they were explained to you. Because I had stuff to do the whole time, I haven't actually done any of the quests beyond level 2, so that will be the next step. A+.

I dread farming Suzaku for the mount. It's my least favorite Stormblood trial. With the early add phase, DDR transition phase, and simon says in the last phase, that fight feels like it takes forever.

Some late 2.0 content spoilers.

It's honestly weird that after Minfilia & Co watched their friends be slaughtered and then are tortured for weeks or months (passage of time is vague), the game doesn't discuss that at all after they are saved from the empire

I think it's only a couple days actually. Time has been and always will be vague unless it is specifically required to be explained. They've been asked about different timings outside of the game and they refuse to comment because they don't want to create plot holes on themselves.

The complaints about blue mage and the calls for it to have a set rotation and be given skills are dumb as fuck. That destroys the whole concept of the blue mage and turns it into red mage 2.0. The right solution is to make it able to do duties but at a severe damage penalty or give it more solo/party specific content, not to change the fundamental way blue mages have always obtained skills. It is supposed to be an overpowered and different class. The current blue can't do high end content but it does stay faithful to the job, and that to me is more important than having yet another caster spot to compete with BLMs and SMNs with a quest-given set rotation and optional or overworld only skills that would inevitably be rendered useless in the name of job balance. I actually like the idea that some jobs aren't meant to be used in the metagame.

OK I have an odd question. I'm a level 36 dragoon and the level 35 dragoon skill hasn't unlocked. I went to the lancers guild and there's nothing left to do. Have I missed something? I figured the abilities would still unlock but now I'm wondering if theres a dragoon guild or something I need to find.
Hit a road block for the first time with progression. Need ilvl 340 to progress during the main story...
This might start to happen with some frequency now. It happened to me around the same point and I had it happen again shortly after. If you're grabbing the blue missions as you go though you should have opened up a couple more dungeons recently that give you somewhere new to grind a little.

Once you get your job unlocked, you dont go to the guild anymore. If I remember right, the drg quests are in Western highlands. Should be the guy you met when you did the job quest where you got your souls of the dragoon.

I hope they open content like POTD when Blue mage hits 60 I feel like that would be a ton of fun to run and provide a really good challenge. I'm fine with blue the way it is, it's a nice piece of side content that they hopefully update more often.

I just did an A4S unsynced mount farm. It was the first time I ever did that fight. I watched this video before we went in:

That video makes the fight look really easy. It's not. Every clear took three or four pulls. At the end of each fight, there were at least three or four people dead. That fight is a lot harder than it looks.

Finally finished up the 4.5 MSQ. I know they mention it's 'Part One' of the story for this patch, but still felt like a bit of an abrupt ending. Still enjoyed it, but got the feeling that maybe I should've just waited for 4.56 and played through both parts together. I'm guessing the last patch for ARR and/or HW probably played out similarly in terms of splitting the last bit of MSQ, but I was in full catch up mode when I played through those so I probably didn't notice.

Ghimlyt Dark is pretty fun though. Looking forward to spamming it to try to get the healer chest piece to drop.

The video is kind of bad in that it seems to be assuming a certain level of gear and DPS that you're not exactly guaranteed to get in PF. It's weirdly insistent on leg kill order (when it totally does not matter because the mechanics happen based on the # of legs killed, not which legs you kill, and the video is assuming you skip or ignore all of the mechanics that made people care about kill order back when this was current), it doesn't mention Wirblewind at all (the thing the big doll does if you don't kill it fast enough where it 0s out everyone's MP), doesn't really touch on things like Quarantine or literally anything after the last Mortal Revolution. Which makes sense, because he's assuming you kill it before anything matters, but means if you're in a group with really low DPS people are going to just explode to things.

The fight is super easy now if you've got a group with OK DPS to burn at the speed the video expects, or a group that knows what the mechanics are and how to handle them (three of us took a new player through in Sigmascape, and while doing the fight 4-man meant we still saw some actual mechanics, it was still super manageable. I think it took us a couple pulls largely because it took me a couple of tries to figure out how to survive feeding multiple dolls at full HP.)

Basically it's only harder than it looks because the video skipped 75% of the fight, assuming you wouldn't run into it. Getting random people sucked into Quarantine, letting Wirblewind go off, etc can complicate things. This is what the actual fight was like Back In The Day; it's weird to think the legendary gear wall of Gordias looks easy to people now.

Yeah I'd much rather they had a system where 8 people are required to enter each portal. That way it'd stop "snipers" and get people to organise themselves before going in.

No, all of those are in the trial roulette so people are forced into those queues regardless. Based on this and one of your earlier posts, I'm guessing you are not playing at prime time for your server so it's not that no one is doing that trial, it's more that no one is on doing much of anything at the moment. I'd either try those group type quests more when more of your server is online or set up a party finder for that specific trial while you do something else and you might get some bored people to sign up since they see specifically what you are trying to do.

I thought it'd take a lot longer to go through 1-50, but it's not really so bad at all.
It really isn't plus you still have plenty of time before the expansion comes out. After the next major patch there will be a lot of down time for people to catch up and complete any loose ends. Just doing your dailies will give you a ton of exp and they should be uncapping tomes soon so you'll be able to get all your gear quickly to be ready.

I should try doing 1 to 50 ARR on an alt to see how long it takes to reach HW.

Dragonsong is the jam, but the video on YT has story spoilers and it honestly doesn't really have the same impact until you hear it in game (it plays at a very specific point in the story, at which point you fully understand the lyrics and what they're referencing).
