Nah, why would it be free? It's probably $10 in most of the world going by the NZ price ($15) on PSN.

It never was advertised as part of the Season Pass - I mean, it wasn't even conceived of yet before late 2017 (and until then they weren't sure if they were going to make it as DLC, standalone game, mobile game or anime-only) and it was greenlit as DLC only in 2018. It would've presumably been part of a second Season Pass, but the Season 2 DLC was cancelled a few months ago as we know.

I've been speculating about the cancelled Season 2 alternate timeline being about
Noctis & Co. realizing that the gods were assholes all along and trying to defy them. We'll see soon in the Dawn of the Future novel coming next month, lol.

Haven't touched FFXV since some time last year and left off at finding Ramuh...are all the updates and this newly added episode and others going to drastically change my experience of playing? Been meaning to jump back into it some time soon.

Given the hints the game gives you regarding this in most of the expansions, plus how most Final Fantasy games other than XII and XV end anyways, it honestly kind of felt like that sort of storyline could have been a sort of "Ending 2" for XV that they just never got around to. Here's to hoping the novel is decent.

Last year? Do you have the Royal Edition/Windows Edition that came out March 2018? They include the Royal Pack which expands the final chapter quite a bit and adds a few other stuff to the game (you could buy the Royal Pack individually for $15 too to upgrade your vanilla game with the new content, but tbh I don't know if I'd recommend that for that price if you don't already have the Royal/Windows Edition unless you're a big fan of the game). Other than that not much has changed since then really. Episode Ardyn won't change your experience with the main game either. It's supposed to be played after the main game as all other DLCs too.

My bad, forgot to mention I got the game at launch in 2016 so I've missed quite a bit. I imagine the added episodes will flesh the story out a lot more, going to look into checking the added content out after my first playthrough.

Oh lol, then you will have a few QoL improvements like being able to accept multiple hunts simultaneously and a few minutes of new cutscenes at some parts in the later chapters, but it's not a fundamentally different game now or anything. The biggest gameplay changes through free patches are probably the off-road car since mid-2017 and the option to play the other characters in combat since late 2017. There is also a Terra Wars and a FFXIV crossover sidequest you can access from chapter 5 onwards (check your quest log for the Terra Wars one and for the FFXIV one had to the Cauthess Rest Area to initiate the quest).

Here's a list of patch notes up until mid-2018 (haven't updated it, but there wasn't really much since anyway):

    • Character Swap: You can swap characters in battle after getting the appropriate skill in the Ascension Grid.
      • It is possible to view the bros' character swap abilities in the 'Gear' menu.
    • Several outfits are available for the bros if you purchase/beat their respective DLCs (there's also some that come from the season pass / holiday packs / battle packs).
    • Cross-chain attacks (from Episode Duscae) are back after you complete a quest available from Chapter 8 onwards.
    • Type-D Regalia was added and features off-road driving. With the Royal Pack installed, the Type-D Regalia can be enhanced even more.

    • You can use the music player while on a chocobo. Several music tracks have been added to the music player as well.
    • First person camera was added. (Royal Pack Only)
    • Level cap is now 120.
    • You can now store up to 200 photos.
    • Aranea is now an unlockable training partner at camps.
    • Vendors have been updated in Altissia.
    • Timed (online) Quests were introduced but are now over. These were incorporated into the main game via a "daily" quest system.
    • You can now take on several hunts at once.
    • You can now change the time of the day at camps.
    • Race Tracks have been added throughout Lucis (Royal Pack only)
  • Relevant Content Additions:
    • One new sidequest has been added to Altissia. (Royal Pack only)
    • Quests have been added to Chapter 10.
    • Episode Ignis got released. It takes place between Chapters 9 and 10.
    • Episode Gladio got released. It takes place during Chapter 7.
    • Episode Prompto got released. It takes place between Chapters 12 and 13.
    • Comrades (multiplayer expansion) got released. It takes place after Chapter 13.
      • Comrades has also been updated:
        • Timed Quests system.

I was barely working on it but when I searched up I saw that you had made the Episode Ignis OT so I realized I should have asked first sorry!

I can continue to work on it though if you'd like!

Do we know how much this DLC will cost?

I'm so annoyed!!!! u can't just give Part 1 of a trilogy and then cancel Part 2 and 3 :( the novel doesn't count :( this game was robbed

I was very disappointed in the cancellation of Season 2's DLC, so much so that I missed news on novelization of the events. FFXV is one of my absolute favorite games, so I would love to check that out.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed fine to me, as someone who defends this game every time people senselessly bash it.

Only 2 hours is real disappointing. Wow, I was hoping it would be a 10 hour meaty dlc since everything else is cancelled.
