Hehe, nice. Replacing Young Noctis with Beardless Punished Noctis is the only way the game should be played.

Apparently there was an interview with Tabata by USGamer over a weeks ago regarding the current progress of Luminous Studios and plans related to their brand new IP (credits to Bazztek for finding it!):

I have a questions about the Royal Edition. I have never played a Final Fantasy apart from Dissidia 012 on PSP, but this one may appeal to me because it has real-time combat (is this true?). A few questions...

1. Can I obtain all the DLC, including skins, with the Royal Edition?
2. Is the story good?
3. Is the exploration good?
4. Will I feel lost if I've never played an FF game?

Much appreciated.

1. Yes.
2. Ymmv. With the addition of the dlc the main Patty and dime of the supporting cast are pretty well developed while others remain pretty one note. Nevertheless the main party are pretty well realized as well as the villain.
3. Yes. But get the regalia type D as soon as it unlocks on chapter 8. That way you can drive off road with the car.
4. No. The mainline ff are all standalone.

And the combat is real time yes.

1. The Royal/Windows Edition includes everything so far (Season Pass + Royal Pack), so it's the best version currently.
2. The story itself has potential and some intriguing lore, but it's unfortunately not told as well in the game and the presentation can feel disjointed at parts. Definitely its most criticized aspect (probably especially for more hardcore FF fans - newcomers might not to have as high expections, I imagine).
3. Exploration actually was one of my favorite aspects and it gave me some Zelda vibes finding all the dungeons early in the game without having any indications or hints. The world is beautiful too. Some criticize the world for being empty, but I don't care that there aren't points of interests every few feet.
4. All FFs are completely independent from each other with new universes, stories, and gameplay outside of a few recurring tropes e.g. characters called Cid, Crystals playing a role in the story, Chocobos (the yellow bird creatures you can ride), and easter eggs etc.

And yep, it's real-time, action-based. You can switch weapons, warp-strike enemies, switch characters each with their own gameplay style, throw magic grenades, use special attacks of your team members etc. etc. Gonna use the opportunity to post cool-ass gifs from the combat :D

On PC there's a free demo where you can try chapter 1 and see if you like it. I'm sure the Royal/Windows Edition is gonna be on sale for 25 bucks or so in the next months again.

Are the DLC important?

I've restrained myself to buy the vanilla game cheap waiting for the GoTY edition to get a discount.
I can't really disagree because I have put the game on hold until all DLC come out so that I can play the entire game while playing the DLC all in order of how they place in the actual story and also get the royal pack dlc while I am at it which is a different problem on its own. Though I will say one thing I did like is the feeling I got when I would do a side quest which involved me driving down an opposite road or back a road I just came to complete when I have to go the other direction to do a main story quest. So the feeling of a road trip and long journey was there. Combat is not fun at all, but I can say it was nice to look at. There were some pretty good "cinematic" moments and heart pumping moments, but the story for sure had problems from what I played. I want to get FFXV for PC since I got the PS4 copy during the winter sale the month after it released just so I can look at the pretty graphics, and I don't like double dipping and I rather not support how they decided to do the DLC with this game personally.
Ooof good point, thanks. I'm hyped, but can wait.
Nah I traded my copy in, I don't own anything FFXV-related anymore. Royal Pack on sale it is I guess.
I remembered some of you were looking to get FFXV Royal Edition on sale, lol. If you are European, good news: the Royal Edition is on sale for 20€/£16 on PSN right now. It includes the Season Pass and Royal Pack.

So people probably know, but I saw bits of the Nvidia presentation and Final Fantasy XV was listed as one of the games that will implement ray tracing technology (PC version).

Looks like FFXV is not getting ray tracing, but just the DLSS feature:
Broad Game Adoption of Real-Time Ray Tracing
Games that will feature real-time ray tracing include the following, with more to come:
Powered by Turing's Tensor Cores, which perform lightning-fast deep neural network processing, GeForce RTX GPUs also support Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS), a technology that applies deep learning and AI to rendering techniques, resulting in crisp, smooth edges on rendered objects in games.

Finished the game last night and, despite some pretty big issues with the plot that have apparently been talked to death about, I really enjoyed myself. The world of XV was a blast to roam around and the music was stellar.

But boy did the final moments have one of the worst, take you out of the moment, bugs I've ever seen in a game. Damn shame too because I was absolutely locked into that scene until this happened.

What a shame. Ended up restarting from the previous save and hit the same problem. Had to scroll real far to the right to start getting images. Credit roll also had a lot of blank screens as well.

I finally got to the new content on my second playthrough (beat it first time before the Royal Edition came out).

Some of this content feels a bit rushed, but they really put a lot of stuff at the end. The Cerberus battle I thought was pretty amazing, and I liked how they put a focus on aerial attacks and animations.

Oh god, this game suffers from a memory leak? My game keeps crashing right at the beginning, when you have to push the car.

I've installed the Special-K mod too.

Just got this on Steam. Already beat it on my ps4 pro at release but pretty much just went thfinished Pugh the story and some side quests.

A few things are annoying me:

  • I'm on an i7 4790k, 32gb ram, gtx 1080 8gb and get occasional stuttering during gameplay. I have all settings at max except tram at high, geo mapping off, resolution at 100%, Nvidia VXAO off, and filtering low. Should I be changing any of these settings?
  • At above settings maybe I'm crazy but it looks worse than on my ps4 pro, especially the terrain.
  • Trying to download the 4K texture pack so I can mess around with assets but not sure if that's a good idea with existing performance.
  • Every single time I check out other peoples photos in the world it gives me that tooltip message which prevents me from seeing the whole photo until I click ok. Tried disabling tool tips in menu but didn't get rid of this.

Online parts are cool but can't figure out how to group up with others or drop treasures.

Overall I'm enjoying and going for close to 100% this time around. Love the custom main character they introduced this month.

Royal Edition just went on sale on PSN store for $20. Never played this game (except for an early pre-release demo) and my PS4 Pro just came in this week, so here we go.

Also it's downloading about 20 things.

How are you liking it so far? I haven't replayed many games, but FFXV even second playthrough is captivating me :). The battles are just really fun.

I found a couple more things for free when I did a PSN search while all that stuff downloaded last night, btw. Including A King's Tale, the separate, beat-em-up-y game that was originally a pre-order bonus. I logged about an hour with it last night; it's alright.

2 hours into into my first playthrough, got something called a Platonum Bangle through that Justice pinball game, and my HP is really high now and I'm only level 5. This is fun.

Uhh advice needed friends. Decide to jump back in for another run with Royal edition being $20 and all. I've got a save where I did the assassins festival and choco festival stuff. But loading NG+ will make me OP I think so I'm thinking of just hitting New game and starting from scratch this time.

What do I lose by not loading the assassins and choco festival stuff? Outfits, useful accessories etc?

Don't think you'll miss anything useful, just a few of the outfits.

I'm thinking of buying the Royal Edition bundle on PSN since it's only 20 dollars. My question is, if I was playing with a physical copy before, will I still have access to my save files? Or is this a Bloodborne situation where digital saves are incompatible with physical copys or vice versa?

Yes, same saves. And wtf, why didn't it work with Bloodborne?

I could have sworn that some people were posting back when the DLC was on sale that their version wasn't compatible with a digital version for some reason. I know that there are some games that have separate save files per version so I was double checking just to make sure. Maybe I misunderstood!

But thank you for the response! I'll buy the digital version then since it's on sale for $20!

Hm, I don't remember ever hearing that. Only thing is that you can't use your save files with older versions of the game after you overwrote them on a newer version.

Hmm...maybe I really did not understand the posts then! Sorry for the confusion! I don't remember anything about older versions. Either way I'm happy that I can switch to digital here! It will make things a lot easier!

So I spent four hours with XV Royal Edition this past weekend, and I like this Fantasy a lot.

I love the implementation of mundane elements in a magical setting. It's not supposed to work, but the Americana juxtaposed with the fantastic elements in fact do work.

Love the aesthetic. It's what I expected way back when this was still Versus XIII.

That said, I'm getting used to combat. I was having a hard time adjusting to the seemingly passive "hold O" combat system. I was frustrated. I wanted it to feel more involved.

Then I found out the direction of the analog stick gives combat depth. I haven't tried it yet but I will. I was literally tapping O and initiating link attacks more often, though, which was cool.

Leveling occurs so fast. I've accepted the game was intended to be on the easier side, and will self-impose a rule: little use of upgrades.

This means I'm not going to be using the ascension grid much for added challenge.

Looking forward to continuing this fantasy based in reality.

Edit: Lawd, Shimomura on the soundtrack and she's incredible.

I'm very late to XV as a FF fan.

Don't miss out on the Ascension nodes in the Combat section that add new basic moves for Noctis like Blink, Airstep etc. Generally I'd say unlock the first few cheap nodes of every section. Also, the cheap character-switching nodes if you want to try out playing as the other bros with unique gameplay from their respective Episode DLCs (this feature was added to the main game a year after release and feels shoehorned tbh; it's not really balanced well, lol - the others are super strong especially in the beginning of the game compared to Noctis).

If you don't want to level up when camping/finishing chapters, equip the Nixperience Band (download the Holiday Pack DLC for free if you haven't already). You will still collect EXP, but they won't be tallied while you wear the Nixperience Band. Ultimately equipped weapons' and accessories' stat boosts are more important than pure levels though, l'd say.

Btw, the OST wasn't done by just Shimomura. There have been a lot of others composing and arranging many of the main game's songs and each of the DLCs has guest composers contributing to them e.g. Keiichi Okabe (NieR series), Naoshi Mizuta (FFXIII-2/LR), Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross/Xenogears), or Nobuo Uematsu.

Full tracklist for the main game (though not 100% correct):

Thanks for all this. Where can I find the downloaded DLC that comes with the RE? Definitely using the Nixperience ring and will be mindful of my used weapons.

Oh, did it automatically download some of the included DLC when you got the Royal Edition? Maybe you already have the Holiday Pack. If not, look for it in the store. After you downloaded it it will automatically add the accessories and stuff to your inventory.

All the DLC was added, then I proceeded it hit download all. Everything was downloaded in the queue and added. Alright, thanks it should already be there then as an accessory.

Yes please a Trailer for Episode Ardyn would be great. And it would be great if they give some more information for the expanded mod tools.

I bought the Royal edition update for PS4 when it came out and have only just gotten around to a new game plus with it. Everything is about the same after all the updates but I have been pretty blown away by all the new content in chapter 14. I am currently standing outside the throne room waiting for the last battle. I played through quickly by just ignoring all side quests and stuck to the main story. It definitely seems like a more cohesive story now compared to launch. I am actually very confident now in how the future DLC will turn out.

Twitch (via PR Times JP), and the FFXVJP account have both just announced that there will be a stream event for Final Fantasy XV on September 23 (Sunday) for Tokyo Game Show.

The stream will be held at the Twitch booth (8-C05), and broadcast on Twitch between 11:45 A.M. - 12:15 P.M. JST.

Additional Information:
The Square-Enix site for Tokyo Game Show 2018 (20-23 September) is now open, and states that Final Fantasy XV will be present at the theater.

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition will be present at the Cooler Master booth, denoted by #3 on the map linked below.

Maybe they'll show the new modding tools with the level editor or the new Comrades content (what about the standalone release which originally was planned for summer?).
