Literally the right direction meanwhile North America is having trouble removing its collective head from its ass. Finland ain't perfect (no country or region is) but good to see progressive things with scientific background take root, not being driven solely by profit to a select few individuals.
Is that enough to make a living wage?

Really want to see how this plays out. If salaries stay the same, with less time... going to be interesting to see how productivity fares.

Finland's education system routinely ranks high in international comparisons and is overall considered one of the finest in the world.
Finnish Government says it ain't happening
I just saw an article stating this is not a thing. Here is a tweet saying so:
"In the Finnish Government´s program there is no mention about 4-day week. Issue is not on the Finnish Government's agenda. PM @marinsanna envisioned idea briefly in a panel discussion last August while she was the Minister of Transport, and there hasn't been any recent activity"

This is legit beautiful, like seeing my dream implemented during my lifetime legit made this day for me.
As a finn I want to correct some things from this report. She wanted to have either 4 day week with regular 8h workdays or 6h workdays for normal 5 day week. Not 4 days and 6h workdays. Also she said this in august at the gathering of her own party members so before she became prime minister. It's not official government policy.
Meanwhile in America, work is our life. I'm lucky enough to work a 40 hour week, but so many are not.
That's the sort of 4-day work week I can get behind. The 4/40 would never work for my schedule (1 hour commute, child in daycare, dog, activities scheduled during normal non-working hours of the workweek).
My work is still pretty good about hours... I almost never work more than 40 hours a week, probably never in the last 5, 6 years. Maybe like once in 8 years did I put in a legit week over 40 hours for some super unusual reason. My old job was a 35-hour workweek officially, but because we were so poorly planned and managed, we had crunch which was ridiculous because nobody was doing anything important.

Edit: And let's be honest, most people aren't even doing 24 hrs worth of work within a 40-hr work week.
I wish this would get mandated here in the USA. The 40 hour work week doesn't account for kids, longer commute time, household chores, etc.
Anyone in America considering this, Americans still need to pay American income tax on top of that countries' tax while living abroad.
The idea behind a four day work week would be that you get paid the same amount as you would currently. I'm not sure how that translates to people who are paid hourly though.

Studies tend to show that the increase in spare time to spend on hobbies/socialising/familystuff/whatever means people are healthier and happier and more productive as a result. I do agree that this seems like a really short week but I'm sure they've got data to back up that choice.
Finn here. Unfortunately this isn't happening, it was just a thought experiment. And the idea was either 6 hours per day or 4 days a week.

Yeah, this. Much more reasonable. She brought this up before becoming PM as well. Not going to happen anytime soon I'm afraid.
I just switched over to a 6 hour workday (with a somewhat greater than 25% effective salary cut). It's much better for my mental (and physical) health. It's only temporary, but it really helps with juggling caring for kids/parents while still being employed.
Even though they're not actually implementing it, on the subject of it we really do need to move away from tying how long a person is at work to productivity. Like sure put me in the office for 10hrs, but you're literally paying me for about 6hrs of productivity, and 4hrs of me just being there. Longer work hours and work weeks does not equal more productivity.

At my work, we don't get paid by the hour, we get paid by work done. If you do all your work on a hour, good for you, you can do whatever you want.
Also, i get to work 4 days from home.
maybe its cuz im used to american companies but wouldnt the company pay people less if they are working less or would there be something in the law that would stop that
