Fire Emblem National Anthem

Hello and welcome to the Fire Emblem Community Thread, home to any and all fans of Fire Emblem. Whether you're a newcomer or a series veteran, this thread is for discussion of all things Fire Emblem!

Before anything else, a friendly reminder for everyone let's remember to have everything in good fun for everyone. Other than that, also remember to show courtesy when discussing spoilers, as not everyone has finished every game!

There are currently 14 games in the main series and counting. Here's a rundown of each and every one of them to get everyone up to speed.

The Fire Emblem Series

Famicom Era

series01srpu0s.jpg
series02slru5k.jpg

FE1: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light
ファイアーエムブレム 暗黒竜と光の剣
April 1990 (JP)

Long ago, a fabled hero saved the continent of Archanea by slaying the evil dragon Medeus. Now Medeus has returned and seeks to rule the world, and it's up to Prince Marth of Altea to gather a group of stalwarts to fight for his land and restore peace to the nation.

This is the original Fire Emblem game that started it all, and marks the debut of Marth of Super Smash Bros. fame.

FE2: Fire Emblem Gaiden
ファイアーエムブレム 外伝
March 1992 (JP)

Valentia is a continent governed by two opposing theocracies, Rigel and Zofia. Two young heroes of Zofia, Alm and Celica, are burdened with the task of fighting back against Rigel and the Dark God Duma when their kingdom, the followers of Earth Goddess Mila, is under attack.

The second entry in the series, Gaiden introduces many new and unique gameplay mechanics that set it far apart from almost every other game.

Super Famicom Era

FE3: Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
ファイアーエムブレム 紋章の謎
January 1994 (JP)

The Holy Empire of Archanea suddenly begins invading other territories, and Marth's homeland of Altea falls to the Empire. Marth must once again stand up against the odds and reclaim his kingdom, as well as unravel the mystery behind what's causing all this trouble.

Mystery of the Emblem is notable for essentially containing two games in one: an abridged 16-bit remake of the original Fire Emblem game, and a whole new sequel that continues the story of Marth's adventures.

FE4: Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
ファイアーエムブレム 聖戦の系譜
May 1996 (JP)

Hailing from the dukedom of Chalphy, Sigurd finds himself trying to maintain peace across the continent of Jugdral, only to fall into a situation in which his future son, Seliph, must finish what he had started and end the ploys of the Loptyr Empire.

In a whole new saga of Fire Emblem, the gameplay of Genealogy of the Holy War offers major improvements over its predecessors, and introduces ideas such as characters falling in love to have playable children, and gigantic maps.

FE5: Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
ファイアーエムブレム トラキア776
September 1999 (JP)

During a lapse of time occurring in the previous game, Prince Leif of Leonster is also struggling against the grip of the Loptyr Empire. As Leif travels within the Thracian peninsula, he and his companions must survive against the evil forces in hopes that they can deliver justice.

A midquel game in the Jugdral story, Thracia 776 offers a very elaborate and wholesome Fire Emblem experience, but you're going to be resetting a lot.

Game Boy Advance Era

series06st1uwt.jpg
series07sf9ujy.jpg
series08s5budc.jpg

FE6: Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
ファイアーエムブレム 封印の剣
March 2002 (JP)

In the distant past, there was a war known as the Scouring in which man and dragon fought and decided the fate of the continent. Now, the Kingdom of Bern starts invading other nations of Elibe in a new war, and since the Marquess of Pherae has fallen ill, his son Roy must take to arms and fight.

Fire Emblem's jump to handhelds had it dropping many of the features the series had gained before then, but The Binding Blade is nonetheless another great entry in the series...especially because Roy's our boy.

FE7: Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
ファイアーエムブレム 烈火の剣
April 2003 (JP) | November 2003 (NA) | July 2004 (EU)

Twenty years before The Binding Blade, Eliwood leaves Pherae in search of his missing father, but the plot soon thickens as he, Hector of Ostia, and Lyn of Sacae are faced with the trouble of the Black Fang.

The first localized game of the series was originally released under the simple title Fire Emblem, and The Blazing Blade brings interesting concepts like having three playable main characters and a lengthy tutorial section for beginners.

FE8: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
ファイアーエムブレム 聖魔の光石
October 2004 (JP) | May 2005 (NA) | November 2005 (EU)

The Grado Empire is bringing havoc upon the continent of Magvel, and royal siblings Eirika and Ephraim must work together to try and gather the Sacred Stones as they make friends and even lose some.

Completely unrelated story-wise to the other games, The Sacred Stones reintroduces gameplay ideas last seen in Gaiden such as branching promotions and a traversable world map.

Nintendo GameCube/Wii Era

series09si6uvh.jpg
series10skault.jpg

FE9: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
ファイアーエムブレム 蒼炎の軌跡
April 2005 (JP) | October 2005 (NA) | November 2005 (EU)

There are two kinds of people on the continent of Tellius: the human Beorcs and the Laguz, shapeshifters who can turn into animals. The Kingdom of Daein invades the young mercenary Ike's home of Crimea, leading him to not only get involved with the war, but also the tribulations the two races face.

This is Fire Emblem's big jump into the 3D world, and Path of Radiance provides a wealth of returning and all-new features that many credit for helping the game garner a strong fanbase, and we like Ike.

FE10: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
ファイアーエムブレム 暁の女神
February 2007 (JP) | November 2007 (NA) | March 2008 (EU)

Years pass after the Mad King's War, and for a time Tellius is peaceful. That all changes, however, when Begnion begins oppressing Daein citizens, which calls for the Dawn Brigade, led by the mysterious girl Micaiah, to liberate them. What seems like a simple tale soon evolves into a grand epic evoking the entire continent.

Radiant Dawn is the direct sequel to Path of Radiance that further expands on the gameplay, including a ton's worth of playable characters and chapters.

Nintendo DS Era

series11sjhu0g.jpg
series12sx0uel.jpg

FE11: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
ファイアーエムブレム 新・暗黒竜と光の剣
August 2008 (JP) | February 2009 (NA) | December 2008 (EU)

Relive Marth's first tale in a way never seen before, such as new prologue and side chapters that further enrich the cast and story of the game.

The original Fire Emblem game remade again, upgrading the game with more contemporary features and is even the first in the series to include online multiplayer.

FE12: Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem
ファイアーエムブレム 新・紋章の謎 ~光と影の英雄~
July 2010 (JP)

The second half of Marth's story returns in a brand new remake with plenty of new story additions, particularly the inclusion of the chapters from the little known BS Fire Emblem series of games.

Mystery of the Emblem's Nintendo DS remake (which was never released in English), bringing noteworthy features later to be implemented again in the next game like Casual Mode and the Avatar, a playable and customizable caricature meant to represent the player.

Nintendo 3DS Era

series13saru0y.jpg
series14ffrby.png
series159xuhg.png

FE13: Fire Emblem Awakening
ファイアーエムブレム 覚醒
April 2012 (JP) | February 2013 (NA) | April 2013 (EU)

Chrom is the prince of the Halidom of Ylisse, as well as the captain of a group of vigilantes known as the Shepherds, who all worship the ancient Divine Dragon. Plegia, realm of the Fell Dragon's followers, has been acting suspicious, prompting Chrom to go and protect Ylisse. During this, Chrom encounters a mysterious masked swordsman...claiming to be the legendary Marth.

An all-new Fire Emblem game for Nintendo 3DS, Awakening makes makes great use of the system's features while marrying together several concepts from past games and rolling them all into one game.

FE14: Fire Emblem Fates
ファイアーエムブレム if
June 2015 (JP) | February 2016 (NA) | May 2016 (EU)

Born to one royal family, raised by another. With the two rival kingdoms at war, which side will you choose? That is the painful choice you must make between the warring families of Hoshido and Nohr... Will you be able to survive the tides of battle and dare to discover the truth?

The latest entry in the series, Fates tells a new story that splits into three different paths, as chronicled by Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation. This time, you the player take the role as the main protagonist, who has the ability to manipulate spots known as Dragon Veins to change the environment for a royal advantage.

FE15: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
ファイアーエムブレム Echoes もうひとりの英雄王
April 2017 (JP) | May 2017 (NA) | May 2017 (EU)

Echoes is a reimagining of Gaiden for Nintendo 3DS, telling Valentia's story on a grander scale. It's the classic game you know and love, now with updated presentation, including animated cutscenes and full voice acting.

I have only played Path of Radiance, Awakening and Conquest, but I really enjoyed them all. Can't wait for the mainline Switch game.

Nice OT, I have been playing conquest and so far I enjoyed it more than Awakening, it just feel smoother for some reason. I hope the story will live up to my expectations.

Conquest's story is widely regarded by the Fire Emblem community as the best in the entire series, so you're in for a ride!
I'm so sorry

Anyway, could I get an invite for the discord channel eventually? I'm sure you guys must be busy right now with verifications and stuff.

I'm glad we're carrying on the proud tradition of the FE Heroes OT being much, much larger than the FE thread!

I still need to beat Shadows of Valencia same time soon. I am somehwhere at the start of act 4.

And I need a Switch to play Warriors. I don't want my glorious mass slaugther on a tiny 3DS screen.

Became a fan because of Awakening but 6 is my favorite. Also played 7 and Birthright. Never finished Conquest or Shadows of Valentia

Replaying Awakening and Fates on order to try and force myself to like the cast so I can buy Warriors. So far, very successful. Very excited to play Warriors as I already like Musou games and there is FE casts sprinkled in. After Fates and Awakening, i'll probably play FE8 for the first time and try to finish SoV

My favorite game is The Blazing Blade. Currently, I'm playing Fire Emblem Warriors. While I have some issues with the game's character roster, I really like the moment-to-moment gameplay!

Still running through Fates. Finished Birthright and greatly enjoyed it. Now playing through Conquest and loving it so far. There are some silly parts to the plot but nothing that bothers me yet.

Finished the main story of Shadows of Valentia. I don't know how I'm gonna go back to Psychics with 15 uses.

I have only played Path of Radiance, Awakening and Conquest, but I really enjoyed them all. Can't wait for the mainline Switch game.
Real shame that Radiant Dawn isn't easier to find.

Hey ya'll! I'm a massive FE fan and used to lurk the old forum, I finally was able to make an account when this site opened and am glad to be a part of the community!

The Tellius games are my favourite games of all time, I'm a massive fan of the characters and story! Ranulf, Ike, Sanaki, Soren, Jill and Elincia are some of my favourite characters!

I've played almost every game in the series, except the japan only ones, although I'm currently playing through 6! I have enjoyed every entry I've played and am looking forward to trying Warriors soon

Always good to see Shun do Fire Emblem.

Haven't been on board as much I wanted, but that was because my interests in Fire Emblem were at a low point after Fates released. With Shadows of Valentia I regained some though . As there are so many games I haven't fully played in the series, I hope to explore them in the near future.

Got into the series with Awakening a few years ago. A friend who is a long time fan of the franchise recommended it to me. So glad I did.

Really hoping GCN VC comes to the Switch, because I really want to play PoR. Even used copies are so expensive. :(

Real shame that Radiant Dawn isn't easier to find.

It's easier to find than PoR imo. I managed to get a somewhat decent price for a new copy, but not for a used copy of PoR. Of course I still haven't played Radiant Dawn since it's a sequel...

Subbed.
Almost played through every title. Need to pick up Echo but I wasn't feeling it when I tried the NES version. How long is this game?

The main story of FE Echoes takes roughly 30 hours to complete I'd say. I'm not a big fan of the original FE Gaiden but I'd still highly recommend FE Echoes anyway because it's that much of an improvement.

Really enjoyed Shadows of Valentia. I didn't like the other 3DS Fire Emblem games all that much, but this one might be one of my favorite games in the series. I've never played the original Gaiden, so I don't know how much of it is thanks to that.

Also, currently playing Fire Emblem Warriors, but I guess there's a special thread for that.

I feel the same way. Wasn't terribly taken by the 3DS games, but absolutely loved Valentia. Only wish the maps had been modernised a bit.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones has always been my favorite. It has its issues mainly how easy it can be, but the story and characters are among my favorite in the franchise. Now if Geneaology along with Thracia ever get remade those have the potential to overthrow Sacred Stones for my favorite game in the series.

If you take away those dungeon/cave levels, and the cutscenes you aren't missing much. Sure they added a "masked man", genderswapped Nuibaba and stuff, but the maps are pretty much the same.

It does feel like just a better version of the same game for all intents and purposes. Then again I actually loved Gaiden so maybe someone who didn't, but like Valentia can say something more to that affect.

Oh wow. I thought they would be equally difficult to find. I hope you get to play one day! Those two are my favorites. Maybe in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread you can post that you're looking for it?

daily reminder shadows of valentia is hella bad

also:

fe7 is the best
fe8 is good but not remarkable, that said, l'arachel
PoR is honestly kind of a mess game-wise but overall has one of the strongest casts
FEA's breadth of content is insane but the lack of variety catches up with you once the novelty of character building fades, that said the novelty is strong
birthright is ok and does cool stuff with the new classes but kind of forgettable
conquest is the best FE game since 7 even if the story is bargain bin
revelaitons was a mistake

fire emblem before 7 doesn't exist, but if it did, fe5 sounds like it might be good

I am so ready for FE Switch. Just the fact that it'll be the first game in the series on a home console in over a decade is a big deal for me (I have little desire to play handheld games nowadays), and I have a feeling Nintendo is going to have pretty big expectations for it.

Also, PoR on the Virtual Console... pls and thnx Nintendo.

I really am enjoying Fire Emblem Warriors.

I bought it because, just like Zelda, I'm a major fanboy of the series, but unlike Zelda, this feels fun to play. Also the music is pretty dang good, nice surprise considering I disliked Hyrule Warriors soundtrack.

Also, glad to be here and Ike is the best Fire Emblem lord.

Really glad to see the Fire Emblem OT up - I've only played Awakening and Birthright (my favorite - come at me :P) but ammaking my way through Revelations slowly at the moment. I'm a big fan of the series, and it might be my favorite Nintendo IP. The games are just so relaxing and fun :D.

The interesting thing about playing Gaiden/Shadows of Valentia is seeing how much stuff from it got pilfered for future games even though it feels so different on its own. But the gameplay is uh, not great.

I'm still disappointed that IS didn't take the chance to spruce up the maps or something. The presentation of the game was so good that the boring maps just bring the game down further.

Seeing this as a kid is what made me fall in love with Fire Emblem:

It's the first time the Fire Emblem theme was used.
The intro to the theme might be new to some of you...

Also made my bro a lifetime fan.
Was crazy back in 1990.

Was sent as a gift from my uncle in Japan. :P

What's the fighting like in FE Warriors? I found the trailers were remarkably unhelpful. All they showed was ragdolls getting smacked around. But I imagine there's a bit more to it than that?

Fates had a great OST. FE soundtracks are usually pretty good but I feel Fates was better than usual. There were no bad tracks at all.

Nice OT! Been a fan of the series since the first localization in the west! Since then I've bought every release at launch except for Path of Radiance, but I managed to pick that up last year for $20 *whew*.

Really, really glad I bought Radiant Dawn at launch with how rare that game is now. I still can't believe how poorly it sold with how little there was to play in the Wii's early days.

I've been loving Echoes, but I need to get back into it. Then again though, I've never played a Fire Emblem game I didn't love (though Fates really tested that love).

Nice OT! Radiant Dawn is my favorite FE.

How do stat caps work with reclassing in FE12? For example, my Caeda's speed:

Is at the cap of 23 on Dracoknight
Is at the cap of 30 on Swordmaster
Is uncapped at 24 on Paladin
Is uncapped at 26 on Sniper

I absolutely love this series. Even the weaker installments.

I just finished Echoes recently, and it just pushed Path of Radiance off my number 1 spot.

The Echoes soundtrack just came out recently, and I really want to pick it up, but I'm broke right now. :v

Finished Echoes not too long ago. Despite its flaws I think its my favourite in the series (for an initial playthrough). I don't think it's especially worthwhile to play again with the lack of customization. That said the inflexible nature of most units outside of pitchforks was a bonus for me. If I'm given the opportunity to grind and min-max I go nuts to my own detriment. When I think of what I did to get perfect kids in Awakening I shake my head.

Anyway, Echoes. I liked the whole cast for the most part which is like the opposite of Fates haha. Could be the great VA. I appreciated how vanilla everyone was. Except for Faye, boy was she clingy. I liked that they gave some closure to that though and she
gets told no and has to deal with it.
Characterization wise the only thing I feel like they should have done was
make a greater effort to show how religious Celica is to explain her later actions.
I understood it but at first glance it appears to betray the character which it doesn't imo. Pretty minor for me but apparently a lot of people didn't like all that.
Her behaviour and Dolth Keep and needing Conrad to slap sense into her only for her to ignore him later was a bit much. Remove that entirely.

The maps, I didn't mind that much. I might be in the minority but I found Conquest very irritating to play with its ramping gimmicks. I can appreciate different map objectives but having different stage hazards here, do this there, open this to move yadda yadda yadda. Not for me. Birthright was alright, at least I made it through that. I got bored of Conquest around chapter 18.

I should also throw some praise at the Echoes soundtrack because why not.

Yeah, I agree for the most part. I think what I felt refreshing about Echoes was how it went back to being somewhat simplistic in comparison to FEA/FEF. The latter games sometimes kinda just felt like it had a lot of bloat to it, IMO. (As a result, I actually 100%d and completed all the Supports, including the DLC ones, haha)

And the VA was totally awesome. I quite enjoyed the dub a lot. I personally enjoyed Faye myself. She was like Tharja in a way, but I feel like I enjoyed Faye's crazy lines more, haha.
Particularly...
DKuLzryVAAETBY7.jpg
DKuL06PVAAEcCi3.jpg

And Echoes also gave me more chances to use ALL my characters. Being split into two parties helped a lot.

Also,
the post game in Thabes gave me a greater appreciation for Awakening, even though I already liked the game. That place did a pretty good job filling in some gaps between Archanea/Valentia and Ylisse/Valm's connecting lore.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on it. Getting a straightforward FE game, both mechanically and story wise, felt refreshing.

ngl, thought echoes gameplay was so bad that it really detracted from the game (forced skirmishes/act three in general)

Sacred Stones will be the better gaiden remake.

Hi everyone! I'm crazy into FE but didn't post a lot in the old thread. I'll probably post a bit more from now on since I can't help myself but talk about my favourite franchise.

On Echoes, I didn't find the maps too egregious outside of a few obvious exceptions but they were certainly the weakest part of the game. The production values however were top notch and I'm very excited the see what the Switch FE will look like.
