It's my first Fire Emblem and I am having a blast. After missing a worthy successor to FFT for a long time, how could i have been sleeping on this series? For people who are FE vets, which one would you say has the best story? (not route, i mean fe game altogether)
I also got to thank the good folks who insisted I should give a shot at hard/classic. It does not feel too challenging at all, in fact it's rather easy so far. I just finished chapter 12 of the BE route...
Gotta say I did *not* expect Edelgard to be the flame emperor. I decided to side with her because Rhea gives me the creeps, also my Edelgard is just ridiculously OP so I could not let her die. Lost my flayn dancer though - I hate myself for no choosing dorothea.
The battle of gareg mach did feel like a significant step up in difficulty. Chapter 11 was like a joke, but 12 with his two golems, 5 sub bosses and pretty tough Rhea felt like a bit of a challenge...
Also the timeskip is the best idea ever. Really enjoy seeing the updated portrait!
I only just realised that ashe disappeared from my party after the time skip, is there any way to get him back?
1. Utilizing NG+ features allows a player to purchase support levels with various characters all the way to S-rank in certain cases. Purchasing S-rank, however, doesn't make any sense to me. That's an ending aspect, so what does purchasing it with renown prior to the ending actually achieve?
2. Spending renown on the final statue upgrades — the ones which boost maximum stat pairs. This... allows a given stat to increase beyond a threshold of 50? I think?
3. I played on Normal originally and now I'm playing on Hard. Even now, I rarely pay any attention to battalions. When I complete paralogues and I'm congratulated with message boxes informing me that I've earned a battalion it's in one ear and out the other. Am I missing something, or are they just all that relevant at least until Lunatic difficulty releases?
4. Is there any way to build an even remotely steady stream of rare ores? lol
Some will disagree with me I'm sure but the Tellius series has the best protagonist in the whole FE franchise (Ike) and the story is top 3 at minimum. Some will say Three houses has the best story but in certain aspects, Path of Radiance runs rings effortlessly around Three Houses and so does Radiant Dawn to an extent. It's my first Fire Emblem and I am having a blast. I will take the fatally flawed multiple route storytelling of Three Doors Down over Radiant Dawn's disjointed disaster of a story. How people say that game has better writing while ignoring the nonexistent supports (writing-wise), Micaiah being the worst "Lord" aside from Corrin and the abysmal first two parts of a four-part story is beyond me.Some will disagree with me I'm sure but the Tellius series has the best protagonist in the whole FE franchise (Ike) and the story is top 3 at minimum. 1. S-Ranks do have a bigger support bonus in battle than A-Ranks, you just never see them except on NG+.
2. That's right.
3. Battalions can be very powerful, even beyond their gambits; take a look through yours. Assign a few high-level ones to characters and level them up and you can see some absurd boosts (like +8 Mt, +20 hit, etc.)
4. ...Ore auxiliary battles, maybe? Other than that, not really.
Thanks. :3 Yeah, the auxiliary battles are just such a crapshoot for me. I seldom manage to break every monster's shields for things like mythril and umbral steel in particular. RIP my beautiful Levin Swords.
That's where battalions shine, especially ranged ones and explosives. Since gambits hit multiple squares, shield breaks are very easy to achieve.
The first time he ...Also Hubert is one of the best fe characters ever, sucks you can't recruit him on other routes his supports were my favourite
Regarding Hubert:
I only got one dark seal out of death knight. I was hoping to get my second when I saw death knight show up in chapter 12, but ... yea... btw edelgard i am still waiting on that explanation, just saying. Am I stuck as a dark mage? No other chance of getting dark seals? Should I stay there for the rest of the game or go for more advanced classes with Hubert?
Just as I am getting started with crimson flower route it's hard to believe I didn't choose the lol super evil path, with one of the few Dark Mages in the game in my team, having literal death knight be my ally in battle. Having a little bit of a 'are we the baddies' moment. But overall Edelgard motivations make sense to me! A much better heel turn than her likely inspiration (Daenerys)
Not that I mind. Tie Fighter is my fave game ever :)
It should be noted that the Japanese name for the Death Knight is "Shinigami Kishi", which could be literally translated as "Death God Knight", which while sounding ominous indeed, doesn't necessarily sound "outright evil" in the same way. I mean, it sounds less like "death incarnate", and more like "one who serves death".Regarding Hubert:

Small nuance, but still.
One possible almost literal translation is "Grim Reaper Knight". Note the "Knight" qualifier, not as a class but as a social status, referencing he's not death itself but his servant. And yes he's not supposed to be good guy. But the simple fact that he doesn't attack you the first two times you encounter him should give an indication that he's not supposed to be a random evil guy (like "Death Knight" could imply). That's a very literal translation, though, which I'm personally not fond of.
Given the scythe and skull face, he's obviously supposed to be the Grim Reaper (aka Death), who is rarely portrayed as a good guy.
I just got to the Holy Tomb on the Black Eagles route and I was not expecting that twist. I don't want to choose! :(
What do most people go with, kill or protect? I haven't decided yet. Both options feel like failure.
Do you make multiple saves, or do you just run new game plus to see the alternate route(s)?Up to you.
I did the Church route first, but i'm doing my playthroughs from least favorite (Church) to most favorite (Edelgard), with Golden Deer following Church and then Blue Lions.
Just one thing, one route is shorter:
Edelgards. Has a fewer chapters than the other three routes.
Do you make multiple saves, or do you just run new game plus to see the alternate route(s)?
I'm not entirely sure I have the free time to devote multiple runs, so I kinda want to see what's "best" but man, they really put you in an ethical bind. You invest so much time and effort into these characters and then everything gets turned upside down.
NG+ makes hard completely trivial.I wish my first playthrough was on Hard, because I have no patience to do multiple playthroughs on a higher difficulty lol
Just wanna share my latest offering to fire emblem, I hope this is the right place....

Yes I was gonna say death or death God, death Knight doesn't look like he spends time volunteering in orphanagesThat's a very literal translation, though, which I'm personally not fond of.

I use battalion gambits exclusively pretty much to hit monster-type enemies with multiple squares. Once the shield is weaken, take out all the shattered shield tiles with your unit to reliably get ore drops. Strange that the game never seems to have fully explained this 🤷♀️Couple of questions from someone 250 hours in who still fails at life sometimes. :P

You're not the only one.I can't be the only one that finds it weird that Dorothea shares a paralouge with Ingrid yet the two can't get together in the end?
But then again her best ending is with Petra, so I would never deprive her of that ending
Most paralogue rewards are granted after watching the final cutscene. So it's probably the case here too.Question to anyone who has done the Mercedes and Caspar paralogue:
when do you get the Scythe of Sariel? I killed him with Caspar but didn't receive anything except the Dark Seal. Do you only get it when the mission ends?

I don't know about that interpretation but Brigid is supposed to be a hunting society so it's like a traditional Brigid huntress outfit. She wears that gear as a Thief and Assassin in the battlefield.Wait is Petra intended to be this game's version of someone from Africa? Her post-time skip clothes seem similar to some of the more tribal outfits.
I hope not, it opens a whole can of worms.

Also, I beat BE-C and some thoughts here.
I fully was expecting the game to end after defeating Edelgard so the two additional fights afterward felt a bit of a drag. Maybe I skipped out somehow but I have no idea who those Agarthians or whatever their names are still. The last Rhea fight definitely felt like a drag but it got super hype because I managed to barely break all her shield tiles with careful unit placement. I was so hyped after I managed to do that!
