Dan Stapleton is going to be working overtime. Everything he did for IGN is now suspect, ans rightfully so it seems because that rabbit hole goes deep.

So Flip taunts the internet to find more examples knowing there are more examples of him doing this out there knowing that he was already found out and instead of apologizing and just fessing up he tries to spin it and now has irreparably damaged his reputation.

What a fucking dumb-ass. Just fucking apologize sincerely and move on with your life.

If he had just fessed up right away, let everyone think it was a one time moment of weakness under pressure and dropped to the shadows for a while, then people likely would have been less motivated to find all this stuff.

Instead he challenged the whole damn internet. Dude armed the nuke, pointed it at himself and then handed the button to the youtube comments section.

All this time I was pulling for a guy who I thought was nervous hosting NVC, because he had big shoes to fill. Instead, he sounded nervous because he never had any unique ideas. I actually noticed during NVC that he would parrot back whatever his co-panelists said when describing a game.

In fact, the only original opinion he seemed to have was when he started the Skip of the Week segment. This part of NVC always bothered me, because Filip would be gung-ho about punching down on a shitty game that he despised playing. Instead of allocating that time for question block (which they never got to) or discussing a game he liked more, he would spend 5-10 minutes telling the audience to "definitely, definitely skip this one."

What if all this time he never really liked videogames that much?

The funny thing is, that post I made on GAF wasn't exactly heavily reseached either; it was just me cobbling together bits I knew and it wasn't in depth - quite why he decided to use that as a source is beyond me: I'm a fricking primary school teacher, not an expert in controller mechanics!
Daaamn. So this latest find wasn't a joke.

This dude Filip really is a serial plagiarist

I find Filip's Bayonetta 2 Switch review weird because he said he didn't have a Wii U, which means he didn't play the original Bayo 2. So why is his Switch review comparing it so much to the Wii U version when he didn't even play it? My guess is he obviously did some of his research by looking at other reviews, but isn't it weird that the entire review is him comparing it to a game he never played?

Seriously, look at his closing comments, it's as if he knows the Wii U version inside out, when in fact he didn't play it.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/02/14/bayonetta-2-for-nintendo-switch-review
Hey, check this out:
Filip, 14th Feb 2018:
1.
While there doesn't appear to be any anti-aliasing, it looks like there are subtle improvements to shadows and texture filtering.

2.
The Wii U version notoriously dips into the 40s, but here everything moves at an almost steady 60 frames per second. I still noticed a few minor slowdowns during intense moments, but overall, executing combos feels even more natural.

Eurogamer quick look, 6th Feb 2018:
1.
There's still a baseline 720p resolution, while anti-aliasing remains absent. Texture filtering does get a small bump though - texture detail in general offers a small upgrade over the Wii U game, but we don't think new assets are in play. Beyond that, aside from minor differences in shadow rendering, Switch provides a nigh-on identical rendition of the Wii U release.

2.
In the title's most demanding areas, the docked Switch offers anything up to a 10-20fps advantage over the Wii U, giving us a much closer lock to the target 60fps, allowing for much smoother, more responsive action than the original release.

For the first example, it's not word-for-word, but he's put in details that I very much doubt he'd notice or even know what they were. Interesting that it looks like the embargo lifted on the 14th of Feb, and all he included were technical aspects covered by that EG quick look posted on the 6th. Oh, and a link to the old review. It's so bare-bones and the little information that's in there was clearly taken from elsewhere.

Second example is simply paraphrasing. 60fps - (10 to 20) is "dipping into the 40s", says it's almost steady/closer to target 60fps, "more natural"/responsive.

Edit: So it looks like he's just pulled the tech differences for this review, and the other one he cribbed from Polygon. This case is definitely less blatant, but I think it's still somewhat significant.

I'm just baffled, did he think he would get away with it forever? And to be so blatant with it too, he gave zero shits.

It's really easy to tell now. Just read one of his reviews (*edit Op-ed) and look for keywords that stand out.

IGN's Octopath traveler article, July 17 2018:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/07...-out-about-what-makes-their-game-so-appealing
Square Enix has created what feels like a storybook world that extrudes the 2D RPG dungeon maps of the 16-bit console era and transcends them into the third dimension — complete with atmospheric lighting and shadow effects from the modern era.

So I just googled "octopath traveler" and "storybook" and got the original.

Polygon's Octopath Traveler review, July 12 2018:

https://www.polygon.com/2018/7/12/17563366/octopath-traveler-review-nintendo-switch-jrpg
The developers have created a storybook world that extrudes the dungeon maps of 16-bit console RPGs into three dimensions, then soaks everything in atmospheric lighting and shadow effects.

LOL at the Gaf and Polygon incidents. This is unreal.

And the Bayonetta 2 stuff is actually for IGN. IGN, maybe consider taking down that article. Sorry this man put you through all this.

They hired someone who was never fit for the job. I'm not gonna say anything like the deserved this but they fucked up hiring Filip plain and simple.

Dan Stapleton is going to be working overtime. Everything he did for IGN is now suspect, ans rightfully so it seems because that rabbit hole goes deep.

There's no overtime needed. Take all his reviews down and have the games re-reviewed. Done and done

It really sounds like he wanted the rest of his plagiarism to be found and for him to be caught.

Either that or he's an idiot.

Dude is going to have a ton of lawsuits by the end of this. No way each and everyone affected is going to be okay with having their content ripped without any mention or any compensation, and this is assuming the companies themselves don't take action

Well that Polygon vs Filip articles regarding Bayo 2 especially the part they somehow both had a 60 inch tv to play on...it's a really big coincidence at best, easy plagiarism at worse.

Really Filip?...Never should have tempted a journalist and called him out to find more.

First was Dead Cells(Boomstick), FIFA(NintendoLife), Samus Returns(Engadget), HD Rumble(NeoGAF(lol)), and now Bayo 2(Polygon)...

He must really struggle in the creative writer/self thinking part of being a journalist.

Honestly, more could and should be done at the managerial level. This isn't just plagiarism of videos at this point. This is stuff that a manager could catch with a simple plagiarism checker website.

Been on IGN's side during this whole thing but I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty damn inexcusable that they somehow managed to miss the Bayonetta 2 plagiarism and it fucking took someone from era who doesn't even work there to do it just a couple of hours ago.

I'm not going to go that far since Justin and Altano have already said their piece. But I do think Tina needs to take this extremely seriously and it warrants a review of the hiring and publication process. For these instances of text plagiarism, it's something managers can easily check and perhaps should be incorporated into work flow as a best practice.

By the way, did you plagiarize my avatar? Lol

It's easy to see now, but there was no reason for anyone at IGN to assume that he needed to be checked for plagiarism. Everyone is working under tight deadlines, and I think it was reasonable to assume that one their prominent writers wasn't a disingenuous liar.

All his articles and reviews should be wiped from IGN and YouTube. Easier to assume it's all stolen and get rid of it right now. It can only get more embarrassing for IGN from here on out as people comb through his (stolen) work

Jesus, this situation gets worse and worse each day. I initially thought that the guy was simply in too much stress and copied a review to hit a deadline. Now it turns out that he's just a pathological plagiarist and has been doing it for years apparently.

Oh, and the fact that he had the audacity to make that "response" video is just the icing in the cake.

I didn't find any plagiarism (still searching) in his Doom review, but this piece made me laugh

"That means that when you get up close to take a good look at characters and objects it's pretty clear that they have a fair amount less detail than on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Especially on a big-screen TV."
I wonder if it is his 60' inch TV
