I love that Scorcese is at a point in his career where he's not trying to necessarily win Oscars but just making movies that you can tell interest him. I suppose the same can be said for a number of directors, but to see Scorcese given the freedom to not have to answer to studios but to be able to just make the movie he wants is pretty great. I really am looking forward to this movie.

I am soo fucking excited. Silence was amazing, not many people talk about that movie compared to Scorseses other movies.

Innnn, the trailer looked a tad iffy but I have some tickets for a screening next month, it's a shame the big screen isn't a wider option, sounds like this film deserves it.

I need to see Silence

100% on Rotten Tomatoes! Phew. Thrilled to absolute bits that Scorsese has (apparently) knocked it out of the park with this movie. As an avid fan of Goodfellas and Casino, one thing I really wanted over the past fifteen years or so was a reunion between him, De Niro and Pesci. Not only did that happen, but he churned out another masterpiece in the process. Can't wait for November now.

Yes please. Can't wait. Can't wait to see Pesci, De Niro and Pacino back on screen, it's been decades!

Another 9 reviews dropped in and they're all glowing. One in particular praising Pesci's performance in lieu of all the talk of Pacino dominating the supporting spotlight.

Any chance it'll hit Boston? I just moved here so I'm not familiar yet with local theaters to know if any of them get limited releases like this.

It'll probably be at Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline.

Kendall Square and AMC Boston Common are my next two guesses.
If it's anything like Netflix's rollout for Roma, it was definitely play at Kendall. Probably Coolidge too.

I think AMC was specifically not playing the movie though

Silence was Marty's best film since Goodfellas. And I think pretty much everything he's done since Goodfellas is great.

I think there's only him and Lynch of the old guard who are still great directors. So hyped for this film. Hyped to finally see Pesci in a movie again and to watch a film with Pacino in it too. De Niro and Pesci are such a great duo.

So many wanted this to be awful, hating on the special effects and just hating because it's a Netflix movie but look at it now

What's overrated about it?
I don't think it ranks anywhere near as Scorsese's best in decades. While a more sombre and serious in style, more direct in addressing the matters of faith than his usual exuberant efforts, I think it fails to emotionally engage or discuss the elements of faith and morality as well as them, which actually benefit from his excessive style. There are some interesting scenes, in particular on cultural relativism and imperialism but these are few and somewhat undone by the ending, which I wasn't a fan of at all. Also somewhat bothersome is the film shows Japanese religious persecution in isolation, eschewing from too deeply discussing the cultural imperialism practiced by European nations in the form missionary work. It is acknowledged for sure but I don't think it really digs deep enough on the matter.

Holy shit at these reviews. Scorsese is one of my all time fave directors, so this is only more music to my ears.

Seems some crow should be served for all the early doubt.
Can't wait. Doubting this rolls into a theater anywhere near me, it's a limited release right?

At this point I'm most excited to see Pacino chew the scenery like a goddamn boss.

209 minutes, sweet christmas jesus.

Is the Netflix version going to be split into episodes like The Hateful Eight?
