This movie is at my local film festival this month, for which I am a delegate. I kind of want to see what all the hype is about, but the movie is listed at a whopping 209 minutes long. I don't think I've the stamina to be sitting in a theatre for that long.

I have my tickets to a limited run screening on November 9th here in Sydney.

This is still sitting on 100% after 63 reviews now.

For me, this is the reason I want to be in theaters to watch it. Too much shit can happen at home in 210 minutes.

Gangs of New York and Shutter Island were the worst movies he made this century but even those had a lot to like in there i think
Shutter Island is a good movie though. Too many people consider the twist being entirely predictable a reason for the movie being bad, like its quality hinges on the twist. Gangs I will give you.

Me and my wife ( both hardcore Scorsese fans ) ER going to enjoy this film so much. It's going to be something very special.

His last movie is one of the best films of the decade. I think the last film he made that I was underwhelmed by was Gangs.
I think Gangs is bad but it's probably his only misfire of the last like 20 years.

It's insane that a guy with a career as long and accomplished as Scorsese's -- 50 years in, 70-something years old -- can still turn out a career-best like Silence.

His last bad movie was in 1972.

Not everything he's made has been GREAT, since then. But yeah - he's fucking brill.

Boxcar Bertha? That movie really is shit lol. I watched it a couple summers ago when I was on a Corman trip and it's not even worth watching on that level.

Gangs of New York is a horrible movie. lol I have no idea what went wrong w/ it.

definitely his weakest film.

underrated scorcesse film is the one he did w/ nick cage. Bringing out the Dead. No one talks about it!

edit: I understand that I am in the minority of people who disliked Gangs of New York. it has a pretty good critical reception and i could not tell you why. it's so goofy.

He has an incredible record though. no denying it. Silence was one of the greatest films I have ever seen.

Really sucks that the stream release is so far away. I don't give two fucks about a theatrical release.

I kind of like Gangs of New York. It's a mess and ultimately doesn't really work, but it has some good moments. I like it more than the Departed which just never really did it for me.

Where can I find out if there will be any theatrical showings in Vancouver, Canada? Want to watch on big screen.

From the reviews it seems like this movie is more ambitious in terms of scale than Goodfellas and Casino.

its surprising that it took so long for Marty to work with Al

wait of fucking minutes, i LOVED those movies, i straight up adore shutter island

what the hell are y'all talking about?
Wait of!? MinuteS!?

Gangs is very overrated. Besides some entertaining scenery chewing by DDL and a few others it's just goofy. It could have been much better.
Shutter island is MUCH better and underrated. Not one of his most ambitious movies, but it has great acting, atmosphere and is a great watch. What more do you need?

you have to be 100% to be "made". Goodfellas explains this. Pesci is the only one who can become a made guy, but Liotta (half Irish/half Italian) and DeNiro (irish) can workwith them and be a part of a crew/

that's right..i havn't seen goodfellas in a long time, sorry.. i forgot about that

now did being a made man give you privileges that associates didn't have or was it just really a title

dont know specifics but being made meant you were "in" and for the most part untouchable. Ironically it's why Pesci gets killed in Goodfellas. Despite being an earner he killed a made guy without permission, so he had to go.

Yeah, you get special treatment. The entire Mafia backs you and protects you. Again, in Goodfellas, this is why the killing of Billy Batts is such a big deal because he's a made guy and Pesci, De Niro, and Liotta aren't.
