Wrong.

NK doesn't reach Winterfell before the end of episode 2 or start of ep3, pretty much confirmed based on who is directing ep3.

Reaching Winterfell doesn't confirm a big battle, but if that's where they're staging it, remember The Last Hearth is above Winterfell. In any case the first episode definitely involved the whitewalkers invading the north above Winterfell. Some poor potato farmer is getting eaten by a dead man.

S8 spoiler based on filming spies/photos:

We know from shoots that the biggest battle is at Winterfell, and it starts or entirely takes place in ep3. Also, we know from the shoots in KL that there is no snow or very little there, actors are dressed like it's warm, and the only battle taking place there involves a dragon, which is very unlikely to be under the NK's control. That means the battle with the NK's army probably stops by the end of ep3.

edit: Oh and also:

S8 spoiler based on filming spies/photos:
From video filmed at the shoot at Winterfell, it sounds like humans attack Winterfell, trying to breach the gates.

I'm sure you're right. It just seems like the whole thing will feel a bit rushed if they do it in the way you're describing, and they chose 6 episodes.

Aren't the episodes supposed to be longer? I thought they were supposed to be an hour and a half, and some even two hours?

They're supposed to be over an hour but I'm saying that

Everything you've described with the tightly contained encounters doesn't speak to a world that is wholly affected by this conflict. They've always had huge, epic encounters in single locations but I thought this season would feel epic in the sense of the whole world opening up to this utter desolation and destruction.

Someplace Far Away
Bran will bury himself under the Weirwood in ep 2, Arya and Sansa will light it ablaze in ep3, then try and stage a mass suicide to stop anyone being turned when the NK takes Winterfell. All the Starks are going to die, one way or another. At the very end, we will see a pack of direwolves riding together and wonder if they somehow survived. In winter, the lone wolf dies, etc.

(I think S8 is going to be fucked up)

I don't know, there's little left to do. Dorne is beaten, Highgarden is beaten. The characters also have a lot of ties to one another, so their reunion at Winterfell would hopefully lead to some good scenes.

Jaime meeting Bran, how does that play out?
Tyrion meeting Sansa
The Hound meeting Arya
Varys meeting Bran. LF went down so fast in Bran's presence, he's their kryptonite.
Gendry meeting Arya.
Sam and Jon.
Dany meeting Jaime, who killed her father.
Jaime reuniting with Brienne.

I think the whole first episode would have to be spent on that.

Oh there's the Euron/Golden Company/Theon stuff too that has to fit somewhere.

This time if she tries pulling some subterfuge bullshit, trust that Arya will go postal on her. Between that Vale dude and that one Northern guy who was telling Sansa it was a mistake choosing Jon and they should have chosen her, there's enough dumb fucks in the North to fuck things up. That Vale guy also hates Targs. Arya better be on her A game because her King and Queen are surrounded by enemies.

They technically have an intact army and 5 more Sand Snakes (Obyren tells Cersei he has 8 daughters) just sitting around doing nothing. The hilarity that they wouldn't be marching on Cersei as we speak just makes me shake my head.

What if Arya doesn't like Daenerys either and think she's standing in the way between Jon and the throne?

What?! But Jon becomes king anyways when they marry (or prince consort depending on what Dany wants to do). I have a hard time believing Arya would hate Dany, especially after they have a nice chat and trade war stories.

"Oh you went full terminator on some paedophile who was hurting little girls? Well I once had a bunch of slave owners who nailed children on mile markers punished in a similar fashion. OMG! DID WE JUST BECOME BESTIES?!"

We get little moments of Sansa being disgruntled with Jon and Dany and how they command throughout the six episodes. It builds up and up and when Jon and Dany finally beat the White Walkers she stabs them in the back. She then goes on to become Queen on the Known World.

It could work.

I honestly think that this isn't a joke theory.

There is a decent chance that Daenerys and Jon get fucked up saving the world and Sansa swoops in post-battle to take the throne for House Stark with Bran's help. The season 7 scripts make it clear that Sansa is slightly power-hungry and was one step away from ousting Jon in the last episode.

All she needs to do is make the right match for herself. Gendry, maybe?

If the plot demands it then it will happen.

Well unless Daeneys shares power, Jon would just be Dany's sperm-donor/advisor. Dunno, Arya might want a half-Stark in complete charge of Westeros.

Jesus if she does this, I want the show to end with Arya doing this:

Then just close to black while everyone knows Cersei is still running shit in the south. Fuck, that's the ending we deserve if Sansa fucks this all up.

Eliminate Cersei and have Arya kill Sansa once Jon and Dany die because of Sansa. Arya wins it all. Last woman standing.

Could be.

I'm personally hoping that it ends with Humans merging with the Walkers to become the perfect beings.

That's what Bran will choose when he finds out that the Night King comes around every so often to purge humanity to stop them from using magic to destroy the world.

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in any 'hero' I've rooted for more than Jon Snow. What a waste.

I had a dream last night that Sansa was marrying the new king, and Arya kills everyone at the wedding. Red wedding 2.

Yep I have GoT dreams now.

Jon's an idiot though. Episodes 5, 6, and 7 of the last season were all highlights of that stupidity.
At this point I feel like everyone who's alive is an idiot, tbh.

I only want Jon on the throne because he's the only guy who actively doesn't want it but keeps getting responsibility dumped on him by necessity. which makes me think he'd be the best actual leader since he's not really fueled by greed

That's true, but I also think at this stage after the events of the 6th episode, Dany probably doesn't give a damn about the throne either. If she did, I doubt she would have risked everything to go beyond the wall to save Jon. He wasn't even instrumental for her war against Cersei, and after she saw what she did, and suffered the losses she did, it seems like the throne is no longer her priority. Hell, she could have packed it up and returned to Essos. Just like in Mereen, she's staying and fighting for her people.

That's a good point. The only thing about Dany that would make me nervous is that she has a slight habit of going off the handle.

But I think I'd respect the ending of the show a ton if they had the balls to let the White Walkers win and have the message of the story be that politics and infighting are fucking dumb and get you killed in the end.

Was Tywin an idiot?

He died like a punk taking a shit...

Jon's rep as an idiot is vastly overblown. He is just a good guy with an overblown sense of what the "honorable thing to do" is. And yes, sometimes that bites him back in the ass.

I don't know, would Tywin have sanctioned a brain dead mission beyond the wall to convince Cersei of all people that the living dead were real? Something tells me that Tywin wasn't the sort of a guy that jeopardize his own crew when he had a surgical strike option available to use on his enemies.

Basically my only wish is that Jon doesn't end up on the throne because that would be BOOOooring. He's a boring dude and would be a boring 'winner'.

Can't believe we're just three months away from the final season for the best new show of the last 20 years.

Which is Game of Thrones, before any of y'all go looking for another example.

Sansa is gonna be on her bullshit this season. Will anyone be surprised when she sabotages Dany later so she can maintain power? I hope not. I guess Jon will have to pick a side. But when it comes to women he's fucking and picking a side...lets just say it won't end well.
