Add Alan Wake to this list (at least in the US). Went to the store page because it was on super sale today, but...nope! Guess who's publishing it now...

One of the individuals posting on the thread was not in marketing but, in fact, is THQ Nordic senior management. His title is Director of Business and Production Development. It is not isolated to their marketing department.
Did not know that, thought it was just the one guy. Its alarming and Im not impressed by their management.

Bad vibes

Glad I can lighten my load. Can't justify buying any of those games now. There's really just no room for hate in this world. If you plan on supporting them then that's on you, but they won't see a dime from me.

ps #fuckkonami still.

Yu Suzuki has nothing to do with this bs. If I say anything more I'll probably get banned. Make sure you boycott Sega and atlus games too while you're at it bc deep silver publishes them in Europe.

I mean, we should be boycotting Atlus because of continuing, unapologetic homophobia and transphobia anyway... So, yes?

Thank you, OP - didn't know some of those were on the list, and one I was interested in :(. But that's life.
I wish THQ Nordic would stop punishing their devs, but well, what can I do. Other than put my money elsewhere, I mean.

I went to Steam and clicked on their name and proceeded to Ignore every single one of them. No danger of forgetting and later accidentally adding them to wishlists etc... I'm also going to be paying better attention to the many Humble Bundles I always buy.

And fock off people who try to shame me about this cause "think of the devs". No one is entitled to my money.

The livelihood of Ys Net studio (Yu Suzuki) and the Shenmue ip depend on the sales of Shenmue 3. Damn game started off on kickstarter. Pathetic to attach Shenmue to any of this shit.

There are better ways to boycott a company, but buying Shenmue 3 used and boycotting Shenmue, it's boycotting Yu suzuki and a beloved franchise that gamers revived through kickstarter.

We're gonna let Yu Suzuki and Ys Net know that we don't want Deep Silver involved for future sequels for obvious reasons, but personally i'm buying as many copies of Shenmue 3 as I can to support Yu Suzuki and the franchise overall.

Ah yes lets boycot the devs who had nothing to do with this...
The developers who say they are sickened by what THQ Nordic did could move on to another publisher.

They can move even more quickly if they have a clause in their contract that accounts for THQ Nordic not upholding their responsibilities in promoting their game that improves sales.

Well that goes for all developers in the same situation.. I even believe one of the Coffee Stain guys said publically that they had absolutely nothing to do with this. I'm sure more developers under the THQ umbrella did this.

But I gotta be honest.. I wonder how many will actually go through with this. Despite the shit that is THQ nordics stance on this whole messed up situation (how on earth didnt they fire the ones responsible?) I think it's going to be forgotten by the vast majority of people in the not too distant future. Includes fans of Shenmue..

After all...
People still buy Atlus games, despite their horrible views on people
People still buy games from Steam a site that hosts rapesimulators, nazi games, a frikkin Bolsonaro fan fest etc etc.
People will buy THQ Nordiq/Deep Silver games after the 8chan AMA.

Maybe delete your Facebook too, and not watching YouTube, since they directly falicitate a viewing platform for these people.

But I suppose people will justify how and what they cherry pick to suit their own lives.

Yep there's a lot of hypocrisy in this thread honestly. Lots of "Fuck them" yet they equate it with simple boycotts because they're not interested in the games. Or selective boycotting such as "I'll buy Shenmue but fuck the rest of the games!"

In threads about popular games people actually want to play, you can bet your ass you'll see the tone be set as "I won't let the devs suffer over one person's decision"

How many people boycotted Red Dead Redemption 2 after reading all the controversy leading up to the game's release?

I agree, shame on THQ Nordic for doing this.

That is what you meant, right?

No, I think what he meant to say was that the livelihood of Ys Net studio (Yu Suzuki) and the Shenmue ip depend on the sales of Shenmue 3. Damn game started off on kickstarter. Pathetic to attach Shenmue to any of this shit.

Also an extension was that, is that it's a farce that a developer has to suffer, for being published by a subsidiary, of a subsidiary, of a SUBSIDIARY of a company, whose entire company is being judged by the actions of one man. If we are going to use broad strokes for all of this and ignore the specific details, let's start judging everyone by that measure, to highlight what a joke of an idea this is.

There is a large segment of Era that would oppose the Montgomery Bus Boycott because of how it impacted the poor bus drivers. Laughable.

Can you not even read the first words of the thread title?

"For people who want to boycott"

Fucking moron.

It's not okay for you to blatantly insult a fellow poster just because he's seemingly one of the few people in this thread that don't agree with you. Save the top-shelf insults for someone who deserves it.

I agree that it's pathetic to attach Shenmue to it and THQ Nordic shouldn't have 🤷‍♀️

I get that you love Shenmue or whatever but it's publisher condoned child porn so sorry that I'm not supporting them.

Uh did you miss the whole reason for the boycott? They had an AMA on 8ch. 8ch condones and harbours child porn and by association THQ Nordic condoned it too.

I am aware, but just because I am going to buy a Chinese takeaway for dinner tonight, does not mean I support every Chinese genoicide and atrocity conducted by the country through some morbid 5 degrees of separation.

Sure, it sounds pretty silly if you play dumb like that I guess?
I'm not sure how "This publisher did bad thing so i wont support this publisher" is "5 degrees of separation" it's pretty fuckin' direct.

I haven't sworn at you once, so don't swear at me, got it?

If you remember my post above, punishing a hard working developer and his staff for an atrocity carried out, which seemingly is supported by a website, which is then used by a company, who has a partnership with another company, who THEN has a partnership with another company publishing for the said developer.... Is as literal as 5 degrees as separation as you can get.

"Yakuza Series (console versions)" is misleading. AFAIK, Deep Silver only published the PAL version of Kiwami 1. Sega has published the rest, regardless of region.

I am all for continued and public criticism of the company. They have made a gross mistake and deserve it.

However, I don't agree with the specific logic behind the boycott. I am also not going to buy a fair number of these games, in practice, but I can't say it is due to a boycott.

It's really not, because nobody is intentionally trying to harm those developers, you're just being obtuse about it because you care about those developers and have personal attachment to them and their work. You're trying to blame people who refuse to give money to a company that condoned child pornography instead of blaming the company as it is directly their actions that caused this not people's justifiable reaction to said actions and unfortunately indirectly will also harm these developers.

While I completely agree with (and am taking part in) a boycott of THQ Nordic, whether that's a boycott of the GmbH subsidiary responsible for the AMA or the AB parent company (and its other subsidiaries) should be up to individuals, and the OP as it's currently constructed does a very poor job of demarcating what's published (and whether physically, digitally, or both) by which subsidiary.

It would be ideal, IMO, if a more exhaustive OP were constructed, and that thread stickied — that's the very least our community can officially do to informatively disclaim the products of THQ Nordic.

by boycotting Shenmue 3 you're not only punishing Yu Suzuki and YsNet who made it all possible, you're punishing the thousands of gamers that got together the money to revive the Shenmue franchise through Kickstarter. This is literally a game made possible by us.

People would actually take you more seriously if you just said "I don't care".

These false equivalencies of yours just make you seem dishonest.

You'd think "WE"'d be more vocal about getting them to switch the publisher then since everyone seems to agree with THQ's move was reprehensible.

But I just hear more people using 250 words to say, "I don't care, as long as I get the video game".

nah, dont even know about the so called issue so..... unless they show some scummy business practices im not worried. Don't care about the "politics" much.

Nice to see that promoting a vile cesspool of white supremacy and child pornography is something you don't seem to consider scummy. That's pretty illuminating of your character.

Well nope, won't be happening from me, and fortunately these "boycotts", will only make up an extremely small percentage of sales, that will probably not even be noticed anyways. Will be forgotten about in weeks anywhoo.

Huh? There's no way I am boycotting Shenmue 3. A game I've campaigned for, for a lot of my life. Gage the highest amount to the Kickstarter to, and will support as much as I can, to secure the future if the franchise.
