From The Washington Post:

Former Illinois congressman Joe Walsh announced Sunday that he will challenge President Trump in the 2020 primary, becoming the second Republican to wage a bid against the president.

Walsh, a talk-radio host, was elected to Congress in 2010 as part of the tea party wave and served one term. He has described himself as an immigration hard-liner and said he would not challenge Trump from the center but from the right and on moral grounds.

"I'm going to run for president," Walsh said Sunday in an interview on ABC News's "This Week," charging that the president is "incompetent," "a bigot" and "a narcissist."

Former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld also has declared that he is running against Trump in the Republican primary, but he has struggled to gain traction.

In Sunday's interview, Walsh staked his run on harsh criticism of the president and questioned Trump's support among Republicans, despite polls showing that the president is popular with the overwhelming majority of GOP voters.

According to a Monmouth University poll released last week, 84 percent of Republicans approve of Trump's job performance. His highest recent approval mark among fellow Republicans was 88 percent in a Fox News poll of registered voters earlier this month.

"He's nuts. He's erratic. He's cruel. He stokes bigotry. He's incompetent. He doesn't know what he's doing, George, he's a narcissist," Walsh told host George Stephanopoulos.

He's going to get buried by the GOP, but at least there should be some entertainment that arises from this.

It would be interesting to see how right wing outlets actually cover a legitimate primary challenger to Trump.

Isn't Joe Walsh the jagoff that gets constantly dragged for not paying child support? Seems he's morally exactly the kind of guy the GOP loves.

Trying to primary Trump from the left is a fool's gambit. The GOP base has proven they don't give a shit about """"respectability"""" anymore, they want full insanity.

Might as well all rise up. I'll welcome near all GOP primary challengers, even if I'd never vote for any of them.

It makes me sick to think it, but the way a Republican would beat Trump would be to announce that "It's time to put n****rs and f*****s in their place!". Only the most blatant, shocking unleash of prejudice and hatred would win over Trump's base.

Joe Walsh sucks ass but he sucks less ass than Trump. Trump wins but hopefully, Walsh makes a dent.

This is a good take:

It's going nowhere but a loudmouth that can get some media attention attacking him may bruise him just enough.

Joe Walsh has a lot of shitty views, but his criticisms of Trump are all true. It's easy to forget that aside from his bigotry, Trump is also a man-child who watches TV all day long, wastes the nation's time with petty feuds and can't read his morning briefing papers that don't mention his name every few sentences. Even if I don't think highly of Walsh' political positions, I can only applaud this effort to hold Trump accountable for at least some of his vices. Hopefully he'll get a few licks in before the GOP machine declares him a libtard and rolls over him.

Every dollar Trump has to spend fighting Joe Walsh is a dollar he can't spend fighting the Dem candidate, so this is fine with me.

He is a diversion... he is going to be used to draw attention and get " at least he isn't trump " voters , then he will concede to trump.

This is going to take an interesting turn when Trump realizes he has to actually release his tax return if he wants to be on the primary ballot in California

This isn't going to lead anywhere. Hopefully this guy doesn't get any left-wing donors.

This is going to be a fun experiment: given Trump's extremely thin skin and need to hit back against all criticism, can Walsh boost his campaign by continually baiting Trump into attacking him?

He won't win, but imagine someone destroying their own kitchen because they kept trying to swat a fly with a hammer.

Doesn't Walsh want Mr. Kellyanne Conway to join him too? Those two blowhards combining to attack Trump and suck up media coverage would certainly be interesting.

Joe Walsh is a teabagging shitbag. But he is a teabagging shitbag with a modicum of conscious, unlike the mindless worms that support Trump today. He will call out Trump which is gonna be fun.

He's going to get buried by the GOP, but at least there should be some entertainment that arises from this.

LBJ via Eugene McCarthy and RFK

Ford via Reagan

Carter via Ted Kennedy

HW Bush via Buchanon

It's not entertainment, it's weakening them for the general by planting the seeds of doubt of "if he's strong, how come this guy got 30% on him? what if we're fucked?!?!"

He is still a republican, fuck Joe Walsh. Nobody should vote for him, but perhaps this chaos on the white wing will accelerate Trump's descent into dementia.

Wont work even if there was a small group of Republicans to primary Trump it wouldnt work. Some states would just suspend their primary. SC did it for Bush Jr during his re-election and they've already talked about doing it this time.

Intrested to see where this goes. In a normal year he'd be doomed but the GOP seemed to be restricting the ability to primary this year so he's doubly fucked.

Hopefully he can at least be a drain on Trump's resources.

Nothing of value will come from this, but I look forward to Trump losing his shit that someone would dare challenge and second coming of god and his reign.

The debates between Walsh and Trump are going to be such a giant clusterfuck. I can't wait.
