I was thinking the other day actually of making a thread claiming Epic was engaging in some negative practice and offering no proof beyond an anecdote in the thread to see how many people jumped on it. The reality is that people are primed right now to react to anything negative about Epic, and the person who pulled this stunt knew it and played on those emotions. Same thing with the whole spyware hysteria that is now being debunked by security and Windows forensic professionals who actually understand deep operating system mechanics.

There's plenty sites that are far more relaxed. The official PS forums for starters. This kind of reaction would never have happened there.
