I was absolutely an edgelord POS when I was a teen yet somehow I never once had an instance of rocking white supremacist iconography, nor did anyone I hung out with.
I absolutely acted and said pretty garbage and intolerant things however, and if video surfaced of 17yr old me acting that way well.. then that’s fine and fair game. It’d be mortifying, but I did do that shit. It’s also 1000% not the adult I became nor the values I continue to live my life by, so it would be equally easy to own it and say “yeah. 17 year old me was a garbage human being with some abhorrent views of X people.” Apologize for it, and move on. My job would not be in jeopardy. My life would not be ruined.
so... if it turns out that one or all of the band members get discovered, it seems like it would be VERY easy for them to say “yeah, I thought the symbol was cool when I was 16. I’m 32 now and obviously I’m embarrassed by how stupid I was then.”, and then if they’re truly someone who doesn’t align with that symbol, it seems like a pretty easy thing to prove.
But if any of those people in that video still adhere to a worldview that holds white supremacist iconography in high regard in 2021, that person absolutely deserves to have their life shattered.
