Don't like trial by media, innocent until proven guilty etc.., but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
There's always been a bit of a stink around Besson. On top of the paedophilia, there were also rumours of him doing the casting couch for his films.

The french news reported she said " I felt obligated to have sex with him "

and it felt very Westein-ish...

The list of directors that people would be surprised to hear this about is massive. Similar accusations against plenty of squeaky clean guys would be met with shock and doubt, and it's hardly the fault of the general public if someone has spent an entire lifetime cultivating the kind of presence that makes such accusations feel incredibly likely when placed in the context of the person.

That isn't "oh no, mob mentality" so much as people who act sketchy all the time being perceived as very sketchy.

Yeah, they’re not the same, but I won’t pretend a 32 year old man fucking a high schooler in junior year gives me the impression he cares much about consent.
That and drugging someone are pretty different.
I am not saying a 15 year old can consent but that was not a crime in his home country that he was arrested for.
This would be if there was enough cause to.

Given Luc Besson's history regarding the original script for Leon and sleeping with/marrying a 15 year old, it's especially hard for me to believe his side of things here.

Is this a saying or are we meant to believe that actually happened?

It's really astounding how some directors who seem to interested in younger girls are confident enough to use this directly as material for their movies. Just look at Woody Allen ('Manhatten') and now this... 'Leon the Professional' will never be the same, if this is true... creepy dudes.

I wonder if pedophiles think that writing sweetly enough times makes them not pedophiles.

Bingo. Where there is smoke, there isn't necessarily fire. But when someone comes running over the horizon from the direction of the smoke screaming fire, people have reason to listen.

Luc Besson has always struck me as a fairly fucked up person, but this just...wow. Wow.

Barf.
I had no idea this was originally in the movie, which used to be one of my all-time favourite movies. Now I wanna throw up. Besson is so disgusting.
Serious story: I avoided seeing Leon: The Professional for most of my life because I for some reason assumed it was a movie with weird underage-sex undertones.

Apparently my brain wasn't entirely off base.

Woof.

The 15 year old thing was common knowledge. She was even extensively interviewed for the Leon dvd. She's definitely...peculiar.

Edit: Neeevermind, thinking of different people. I always thought Luc Besson was Jean reno...

I thought he was already outed for being a creep bc he married a 15-year old and Leon?? I can't remember what brought it up but I remember thinking I wouldn't watch Leon or play Onimusha 3 ever again...
Luc Besson didn't make Onimusha 3, why would you not play that game because of him? Jean Reno and Luc Besson are different people.

And "creep" is one thing. Actual rapist is something entirely different. We all knew Besson was a creep, but this is WAY beyond that.

Oh my bad. I obviously am unlearned about the two men. Even if these allegations didn't come out, I wasn't planning on watching Leon again, and I've never played Onimusha 3 I was just making a poorly researched joke.

I remeber saying how I preferred the Professional above Leon because the cut scenes seemed creepy to me. I was called out for having a dirty mind, but when I finally saw this I knew my warning bells weren't there for no reason.
That scene in the screenplay excerpt above was never filmed. In the uncut, filmed version of the movie, Mathilda tries to seduce Léon but he refuses her. I always interpreted that scene as the young girl not knowing what she was doing and Léon doing the right thing by her. It was a disturbing scene, but not actually awful, you know? But then it turns out, he actually intended to have Léon sleep with (i.e. rape) her and frame it as "sweet, beautiful lovemaking". And add to this how he married a 15 year old girl and, well, this is one case where I certainly can't separate the art from the artist anymore. It's more than enough to ruin the movie for me.

Besson is a pedophile and a predator and now most likely a rapist too. I hope that actress gets justice.

I have known about Leon for years, but I can't not like it, it's too good.
Yep, art is what it is its not like Portman filmed a sex scene, or that if she did it would have been real.
How many films depict underage sex, murder, rape and more?
His past is shady but hanging him now seems premature.
If he gets arrested and charged then fuck the dude.
But for now like someone else said it's trial by social media.

Wow, he's toast if there's even any piece of evidence. Which there probably will be, doubt he could be that thorough.

While there is definitely merit to what you’re saying... when it comes to actual crimes the law most certainly does matter.
As much as the law matters, I'd rather not get into a relationship where a prosecutor has discretion as to whether or not to pursue charges.

My bad, that wasn't my intent to sound like I'm defending this.
I didn't interpret you post as a defense, I just was adding onto it, saying that it's never a good look to be in that situation. Like, you never want to be pulled over by a cop when you've had two glasses of wine with dinner over a two hour period. You can pass a sobriety test, but an officer can still say they smelled alcohol and that you were swerving and they can still arrest you. Even if the charges get dropped, it's still in that sphere of being in they grey that no one wants to be in.

People got offended by Leto sexting 18 year olds, so the line seems to be a personal thing for a lot of people. Imo 15 is way to young, whatever the law actually allows - just don't fuck 15 year olds where you are 30+, its not that hard.
Most people were on Leto for the <18 year olds he was alleged to have sexual involvement with during his tours with his band.

Disgusting that the only vanishing fragment of doubt here, is that the actress was 27.

I can’t watch Leon or The Professional anymore. Valerian is a fitting cap to his career. Empty dreck with none of the joy or talent shown in Fifth Element.

As a long time fan of his work, I’m not surprised considering how much of a creep he is in real life. Put him away.

With all the hollywood dirt coming up I'm not sure if I feel more guilty or happy that I can't keep 99% of actor/director names straight.

I've never liked this dude since seeing The Professional.

No doubt there are countless fucked up stories about this guy we'll hear about soon.

What people don't seem to keep in mind when they bring up what's "legal" is that these laws are mostly there so that young people can legally have sex with other young people without one of them going to jail; not so that someone twice or triple a girl's age can have sex with her. That's largely a byproduct.
I don't think that is always the case, as there are so called " Romeo and Juliet" laws in place for that instance specifically.

People, you do know that Cracked is a satirical website, right ? That screenplay excerpt is fake.
