I haven't been back to GAF since it imploded, thought I'd pop back in yesterday to see how the ole' place is ticking along. Well. Maybe I just got unlucky with threads I read, but it seems to have taken a real nosedive in terms of whats acceptable content these days. I was reading that thread about the plus size model on the cover of Cosmo and there is some truly vile stuff being tossed around, apparently consequence free, same for the thread about Serena Williams in her tennis cat suit. Probably my fault for straying into off topic, but even gaming side seems to be a seething mess of system wars and shit flinging.

Shame really. Just goes to show how much of an effect decent moderation has.

On GAF you have people saying vile shit about those who want to fuck the fat woman and the woman herself, on Era you'd get warned for being anything other than clinical in your response if you didn't want to fuck the fat woman or wanted to criticize the woman herself.

It's pretty weird that there's a thread chronicling everything about Era. Even weirder that there's a site linked in it that shows every person banned and their ban message.

Tbh there's nothing wrong with a ban log for a site that prides itself on transparency.

The wrongness is that it isn't hosted on Era itself

All of the people who used to talk shit about GAF on The Bore, Neof*g, Voat, etc went to GAF after the exodus. People who were permabanned from GAF were unbanned when EL was desperate for members. And people who get banned from Era tend to go there too.

So yeah, it's mostly just a collection of the internet's saltiest rejects now.

what? that's insane ... but not really surprising actually.

It was surreal seeing hardcore porn gifs openly displayed during the melt down. I knew this place was done, asked for a ban and never looked back. Out of curiosity I took a look to see what's going on a few weeks ago... the place was slow and the content was horrible.

There's nothing really wrong with bringing up NeoGAF (no, you don't get banned or have posts removed), but there's no real point in highlighting the obvious in its own thread.

We have plenty of our own issues without stirring up old drama, regardless of whatever is going on over there.

It just brought home the importance of decent moderation by sensible, thoughtful people. Posting in era, you generally know any throwaway insult or generalisation is going to be picked up on and I find it makes you more considered in your posting. Maybe it's rose tinted specs but I recall GAF being basically the same, but now.....ugh.

And ok, lock this if it's not allowed. I just figured it was of note as probably 90% of us are from GAF originally. Its like going back to a house you used to enjoy living in and finding its full of racist, mysoginistic, fat shaming goblins who have shit all up the walls.
