Please do not discuss any books or leaks in this thread.

NOTE: The reason there is no book discussion allowed in this thread is that many viewers of the show plan to read the books at some point, some are currently in the process of doing so and do not wish to have any major differences spoiled. Please respect that. Any major leak discussion is also not allowed, small leaks such as set pictures or character sightings are fine as long as they're tagged, linked and not embedded, but any story or script leaks are absolutely prohibited. Speculation and theories are welcomed and encouraged.

The final season wouldn't have been the same without the constant time travel whining and fan fiction comparisons. Glad to be here.

So what's the under/over for Hodor coming back a zombie? My guess is that he's the one to finally kill Bran.

"This is what you get for having me wipe your ass all those years, you ungrateful little shit," he wanted to say but could only grunt out, "HOOOODDDOOOOORRR!!"

He's 100% a Wight now but I don't think we see him again.

nicely done on the title

Nameless gets the credit for that!

So are we going to do the two thread thing again?

There are people who want to read the books still and don't want the changes spoiled. I asked before creating the thread and everyone agreed that it would be best for now.

I personally have no issues with book talk as long as it's mild, slight differences like Varys having hair vs. Being bald.

But when it's something like character deaths, then I don't think that should be in here because some of the differences are pretty significant.

Does the "book spoiler" thread not exist yet? Do we even need two threads still when there are no spoilers left?

Midgar, With Love
Slowly rewatching the series at a pace of around 2-3 episodes a week since one of my roommates has never seen it. She's familiar with several of the major milestone moments but lacks any context as to how they happen. We're up to 2x05.

The first couple of episodes in S2 don't really do it for me quite as much as most episodes do. (For context, this and Star Trek DS9 are my two favorite shows, and there are fewer than 4 episodes of Thrones I'd rate as low as a 6, so I mean. I still like even these eps OK.)

It's going to be interesting to try to finally lock down a seasonal ranking for myself once I'm through. The big struggles will be 2 and 5 (which are my least favorite seasons overall but I've had a tough time deciding on an order) and 7 (which, being new, I'm still not committed with just yet). Tentatively, I'm thinking 4 > 6 > 1 = 3 > 2 = 5. 7 will probably pop into the middle somewhere. I'll find out within the next few months. Maybe.

No it doesn't exist yet, I updated the OP with why there shouldn't be any book talk in this thread. Essentially, some people plan to read the books and don't want any differences spoiled.

Should there just be a book thread, or a book thread with no show talk and a separate 3rd thread for show and book talk like at the old place?

For me it has been.

6 > 4 > Last few episodes of season 5 > 3 > 2 > 1 > first episodes of season 5.

Season 5 is a lot better on re-watch, though. It's a slower burn that's helped when you don't have to wait each week, also, Dorne has barely any scenes in it and the only bad parts are a sum total of 2, which are still bad, but 2 scenes in a ten episode season isn't too bad. Still not sure where I'd put season 7, even though I ended up seeing it 3 times over whole it aired since I watched it with 2 people at 2 different times, and once by myself. I think because season 7 was supposed to just be ten episodes originally and no season 8, I think they couldn't really end season 7 with a ton of events, like in season 6, and also because a lot of the characters were together, you couldn't have an ending for Sansa and Arya, since their endings belong to both characters, same with Dany and Jon. Thought it wasn't my favorite and I was disappointed with a few things, I still thought it was a pretty damn great season and I'd put it maybe somewhere around 4-ish.

I'd think it would be best to have a general thread for book readers, like how /r/asoif does it, so they can compare and contrast the show with the book, also, that way we're not split between 3 threads.

This might be the first time I've seen someone rate the first season as their worst.

You're right about S5 being better on re-watch. I like it more and more each time I watch it, something I noticed with my most recent viewing though is how dark and depressing it is. Yeah, the show has been like that since the start, but S5 is really just depressing for nearly every character. Arya probably the least but even hers ends poorly.

Season 7 is an absolute blast. But I have t rate 6 a little higher because of 7's pacing issues. BoB and Hardhome are still to beat.

Yeah that's a good idea! That's my first ever OT title suggestion so it would be kind of cool if it got used.

Since us book readers are known for being salty, I've been thinking about this one:

a song of ice and fire | OT | the night is dark and full of bitterness
This actually describes my book reader buddy to a T. Season 5 broke him, and whenever people ask me why I won't read the books, I just point to him and go, "yeah, I don't want any of that negativity in my life."

Most of the GoT YT channels I watched were book readers so I do think their criticisms rubbed on my before I even decided to read the first book. I feel that it's easier to just accept that the show is it's own thing and watch it for the spectacle (even if some things still bother me),

Hardhome was 5, and the only thing saving that season from being a total disaster.

I say 6>7 even from a pure entertainment standpoint. Tower of Joy, Bran visions/not being a robot, BotB and the finale. 7 was just like... "hey member dragons" and a bunch of reunions. One win the show will always have is Beric though, who just makes every scene he's in amazing.

Yea!! I'm so happy to see everyone back in one spot!

Gonna be a hell of a wait. I'm not sure I will survive.

It will be tough. I will do my best to keep discussions going. Also you can always rewatch the series like I'm doing. One episode per week. I'm following the reddit schedule. It's making the wait MUCH easier. Now then:

Day 62 without GoT:
Brand new Special message from the Mother of Dragons herself !

Gonna miss Emilia Clarke as Daenerys :( Also this confirms she's gonna use a wig this season and not go with her natural hair, like some speculated when she dyed it.
