1. Please absolutely no links, discussions, or requests to pirate downloads or illegal streams.

2. Please no spoilers or leaks from future episodes in here. There is a dedicated spoiler thread where you can freely discuss any leaks, spoilers, or endgame theories. -->Spoiler Thread link<--

3. If you see an open spoiler or pirate link please report it using the Report function at the bottom of a post and write the corresponding Reason. Please do not quote a spoiler or pirate link.

4. Any previously released book or show detail is perfectly fine to discuss openly. HBO released promotional materials and episode previews are fair game once officially released. Episodes after 9PM EDT seem to be fair game as well.

5. Use your own discretion on whether something will ruin the experience of others.
IE Downloading the VOD at 9PM, skipping to the end, and talking about the ending to TV watchers who just started watching the HBO broadcast.
If you think some detail might ruin the experience of another resetera reader, please err on the side of caution and use the Spoiler function in this thread or simply use the Spoiler thread where everybody knows what to expect.

6. If you are posting a YouTube video watch it first and check if it has a spoiler preview image or spoiler/theory contents.

7. Sit back and enjoy the ride, the show will not be exactly the way the books end if they ever come out, but it will be an ending to complain about because you are most definitely not getting the ending you want. Subverting conventional story tropes and shocking the audience are staples of the series so prepare yourself for anything and everything.

Prophecies
The book and the show prophecies are slightly different but it is unknown if any of them will play out as some have been technically wrong and expect time manipulation or as-of-yet unknown facts to mold the vague parameters
I guess these were all inconsequential.

1. Dany's visions in the House of the Undying (2.10)
https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/House_of_the_Undying
The book version is quite extensive. In the show Dany sees herself in the charred remains of the Red Keep with snow or ash and meets her dead son and husband.

"In the books the warlocks foretell her prophecy in a riddle of 3's:
Three fires must you light, one for life and one for death and one to love.
Three mounts must you ride, one to bed and one to dread and one to love.
Three treasons will you know, once for blood and once for gold and once for love."

2. Maggy's Prophecy to Cersei aka Valonqar prophecy (5.1)
https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/Maggy
As a girl Cersei went to the wood's witch Maggy who drank her blood and answered 3 of her questions
When will I marry the prince?
Will I be queen?
Will the King and I have children?

The books carry a final verse which is not mentioned in the show
"Three [children] for you. Gold shall be their crowns and gold their [funeral] shrouds…and when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

Valonqar translates to younger brother, so literally anyone with a older sibling is fair game to be the aforementioned strangler.

3. Azor Ahai aka Lightbringer Prophecy and The Prince/Princess that was Promised
https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/Azor_Ahai
https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/The_Prince_That_Was_Promised

"According to prophecy, our champion will be reborn to wake dragons from stone and reforge the great sword Lightbringer that defeated the darkness those thousands of years ago. If the old tales are true, a terrible weapon forged with a loving wife's heart. Part of me thinks man was well rid of it, but great power requires great sacrifice. That much at least the Lord of Light is clear on."
"There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him."

This all leads to some kind of sacrifice theory because the hero from one thousand years ago needed to kill his loving wife, Nissa Nissa, to activate the sword.

Loose Ends
Loose ends are a collection of unresolved things many fans want to see given a proper conclusion, even if they don't have any bearing on the plot.
Probably only the Bowl was of note.

1. Clegane Bowl is the battle between the Clegane brothers. Two of the best fighters in the realm and siblings to boot. This is an event that almost every fan is waiting for and was even hinted at in the final episode of last season. This could be the battle that tops Mountain vs Viper.

2. Arya has a list of names that she whispers before sleeping to focus herself on her vengeance. The only names remaining are Cersei, Melisandre, the Hound, the Mountain, and Ilyn Payne. She actively choose to spare the Hound and if Clegane Bowl happens she might miss another name assuming one of the brothers kills the other. EDIT: So apparently the actor for Ilyn had cancer and is recovering and in episode 8.2 Arya amended her list removing Beric from it.

3. Tyrion has been spent seasons trying to finish a joke about a honeycomb and a jackass.

4. Macumber, the blue eyed giant who's eyes are the sky, has been referenced twice in the show, but not in the books.

5. The location of Tyrion's first love Tysha. This is a bigger deal in the books, but in the show her whereabouts are a mystery as well.

Theories
There are thousands of theories on reddit and the internet, here are a few that are popular.
Nope the Internet was all wrong.

1. Tyrion is a secret Targaryan
This is a long-rumored theory that Tyrion's mother was raped by the Mad King and sort of confirmed when the dragons seem to be interested in him.

2. Ragnarok
http://gameofthronesandnorsemythology.blogspot.com/2013/05/ragnarok-song-of-ice-fire.html
An excellent theory where the Norse version of Ragnarok mirrors the story

3. Littlefinger/Syrio Forel is a Faceless Man
Both these characters seem to have died such weak deaths. If they were Faceless Men in disguise they could still be alive and able to participate in the end game.

4. Meera Reed is Jon Snow's twin
A long held theory since Meera's father was with Ned at the Tower of Joy and Meera's curly hair and face are quite similar to Jon's. Meera has gone home after traveling with Bran.

5. Bran is the Night King/Bran the Builder and can manipulate time
This is a popular theory that Bran has somehow warged or communicated with various important people through history with his ability to greensee and access Weirwood tree memories.

6. Every Targaryen has an egg
This is a lesser known theory, but does give an explanation to the fact that Winterfell's walls are heated during winter. Something is heating the hot springs beneath Winterfell. Perhaps there are dragons or dragon eggs in the crypt, or even Others or the Great Other.

Geographical Locations of Importance
Based on past books and episodes I have compiled a list of locations I think may play a role in the final season.

1. Winterfell
Something is definitely happening at Winterfell and specifically in the crypts of Winterfell.

2. King's Landing
Cersei is in King's Landing. We have also seen one of Bran's visions of a dragon flying over the city.

3. The Land of Always Winter
Located in the furthest north, my guess would be that we will get more information about who the Night King is or what happens to all the male babies that Craster offered up to the Whitewalkers.

4. Isle of Faces near Harrenhall
Located well south of Winterfell but north of King's Landing, my guess is this island is significant as it the place where everything started between the First Men, the Children of the Forest and the White Walkers.

Number of children Stannis burned: 1
Number of children Dany burned: hundreds, maybe thousands

bend the knee to your one true king.

For the record of the new thread let it be known that I liked the episode even though I think D&D butchered the execution of Mad Queen Dany and have rushed this season along far too quickly for my taste.

Why the two dragons didn't go whole ham on the zombie army two episodes ago I'll never know.
Well I thought that was fairly obvious. They had the Night King attacking them with Zombie dragon and due to the snowstorm that the Night King summoned they could no longer see the battlefield properly.

If they had started just strafing the ground with dragonfire while the storm had them blinded they could have easily killed as many of their own men as they did Wights.

Did they not burn entire cities of they didn't surrender?

But yes, this probably does lead to her death. But, at least she'll be queen for a day... Which is all she ever wanted anyway, isn't it? There is nothing else in her existence that matters to her.
Harrenhal was destroyed, no cities were burnt though. Aegon didn't resort to that.

And yeah, Dany won now, in her mind there are no enemies left. Only her and her sycophants.

Bran was a completely worthless character.
Hey, wheelchair lore is dope.

When people don’t like something they usually tend to avoid the thing they don’t like.
When people have watched and loved a show for a decade, they usually will finish it. Especially when it's in the cultural zeitgeist and there are still redeeming things about that show.

The people expecting others to either drop the show or stop criticizing it are being unreasonable

I don't know about y'all but I like the episode.

Dany did the right thing. Burn them all.

In my opinion, the biggest issue is how rushed everything feels. I get the criticism of that.

I'm not mad about Dany going crazy, because that's been brewing under the surface for a while and I wouldn't be surprised if Dany burning down King's Landing is the ending GRRM mentioned to D&D years ago. I've seen several mentions about how GRRM's overall goal with this series is to show the evil of man and horrors of war, and this sort of turn by Dany isn't surprising in that context.

I enjoyed last night's episode. Cleganebowl was satisfying. Dany's heel turn was brutal and vicious and underlined the inherent brutality of madness and power.

The finale is going to be a trip and a half.

If Dany doesn't at least give a hitler-esque fascist speech in High Valyrian and Dothraki to her foreign horde next episode, it will have been a waste

Let’s take a moment to recognize that regardless of whether or not you’re actually enjoying the current episodes, we can all agree that this show and this story deserved far better than this final season has been.

She doesn't have a legitimate claim to the throne, and thanks to Varys the whole kingdom knows that now.

If she wants the throne (which she does above all else) she's gotta take it by force. Prove that she's a force to be reckoned with.

She really didn't have any other way. It's what her ancestors did... Did that not lead to hundreds of years worth of peace?
Not exactly. There's a failed conquest of Dorne (9 years) to start things of, the Faith Militant uprising lasting 7 years, and then later the so called Dance of the Dragons, a bloody civil war between 2 Targaryens. Then another conquest of Dorne (4 years, but Dorne is conquered so yay). 3 failed Blackfyre rebellions ensue over the course of 23 years. Then the Peake uprising and a fourth Blackfyre rebellion, and the war of the Ninepenny Kings. House Targaryen is finally toppled after Rhaegar kidnapped a 16 year old girl and his dad burned her father and brother who came asking for justice, leading to Robert's Rebellion.

The longest peace during their reign was 81 years long.

Dany going full Mad Queen was fully in line with where her character has been going from the very start. The speed at which it happened is more up for debate

I loved the episode. But Dany did the right thing?
Nah chief. It's time for this Targaryen madness to be exterminated once and for all.
King Robert Baratheon was right, his timing was off though.

Dany does know that Jon would not be the first Targaryen to pass on the throne and give it to another family member? The people seemed cool with it before.

They setup so many *things* in the previous episodes. The scorpions being a deadly threat to Dragons. Eurons fleet being a big obstacle. Yara and her fleet swearing to Dany. Same with Dorne.

Everything was in place to have a battle with a lot of different pieces. I actually really liked the build up to it. The music was fantastic and I enjoyed seeing Arya/Hound and Jaime milling around. It setup the potential for a cool sequence where various characters are converging together.

Then they just wiped it all to the side, basically. Dany comes in and destroys all the enemy defenses without any actual effort. Arya/Hound almost immediately go their separate ways. Jaime loiters around trying to get to the castle. Yara and Dorne play no role. The battle never goes against Dany/Jon.

Like the previous big battle everything happened in the most straight forward way possible. It was so painfully predictable.

Just show of hands, how many prople who hated this outcome feel like GRRM will do a much better job of it if/when the books catch up?

Or are Dany’s actions so reprehensible that it retroactively ruins a lot of the series, regardless of how fleshed out it is?

Not a loaded question, just genuinely curious because I’m convinced this was always where Martin was headed.

Kind of was hoping for Jaime and Cersei just to sail off away. And that be that. Leave it to the audience to think what would happen to the character with the biggest redemption arc and most consistent villain. Do they die at sea? Does Jaime die of his wounds. Do they get intercepted by the Iron Fleet? Who knows.

But now it's just like, fuck it we have only one episode left let's just kill them by falling debris.

I knew the moment at the end of season 7 that a 6 episode final season would not be enough time to properly tie up all the plot and sub plot lines involving so many characters.

EDIT: Also, whatever happened to that Dornish woman (princess?) who was captured and locked up in the Dungeon? I know her daughter died by poison kiss.

I'm honestly surprised more people, especially here with its progressive bent, didn't criticize the episode more. I mostly enjoyed it, while I think the season has been a shit show due to the Army of the Dead resolution and toss aside, at least I felt this episode closed a bunch of arcs. Maybe not in entirely satisfying ways and a whole lot of jumps from A to Z with nothing in between, but at least Kings Landing is toast, Cersei, Euron, Jaime, Cleganes, Varys, and Qyburn are dead, and Lannisters forces are wiped out.

I'm surprised more people aren't enraged by

-- Dany goes nuts because a man rejected her. Episode could have easily had her go crazy because her second dragon or Missandei die (moved from prev episode) but nope, its because Jon rejects her and "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Is the lesson from GoT that women are not fit to rule? That really seems to be the narrative, especially when combined with Cersei. The "after episode" stream with the two writers also confirm Dany went mad because of Jon, so its not really meant to be open ended, they literally wrote it that way.

- Cersei, the women who put her children above all else and controlled her own destiny once she realized she could, dies crying in the arms of the man she only truly loved and really did pretty much nothing in season 8. No plans, backup strategies, political maneuvering, alliances, etc just "welp guess Its time to die". Crushed by a rock.

- Was Brienne of Tarth's final scene crying over the man she loved rejecting her and going back to his true love? The only female knight in the 7K who has been a pillar of morality and strength for 7 seasons finishes like season 1 sansa?

Stannis would never have burned that many people. The realm would have better off if he had survived

Um where are we supposed to discuss speculation for next episode if we can't do it here?

I get putting speculation in spoilers, but forbidding it entirely in the only OT for the show seems completely ridiculous. We have literally nowhere else to talk about it at. There is only this thread and the leaks thread and thats it. Are we supposed to have a 3rd thread just for speculation?

Alright folks I have finished my LEGO model of Dragonstone with one week to spare. I even added a small diaorama to remember Rhaegal! Let me know your thoughts, now that the Red Keep has fallen I think Dragonstone would be a great place to move the iron throne to by Queen Deny! It is about 10.5k pieces maybe I'll get to physically build it later this year
