With our cover story on God of War, we dive in deep on the game's combat and gameplay. As one of the most-anticipated PlayStation 4 games on the horizon, a lot of fans want to know when the game is actually being released. While the team at Santa Monica Studio remains silent on the exact release date, we spoke with creative director Cory Barlog and studio head Shannon Studstill about how much is left to accomplish before the game hits store shelves.

Watch the video below to learn why the game's development has been so challenging compared to previous projects and why the game itself is surprisingly emotional.

Why doesn't the interviewer ask them about the release date? He's throwing way too many softballs, and there's no new footage at all and we've learned pretty much nothing. This may be the most uninformative cover story they've ever ran. I would have preferred an IGN First on God of War instead of this.

Seems like the game has been pretty much done for a while. Now all thats left is polishing and a few balacing tweaks. I'm confident in a March release again. The game must trully be huge.

Also, interesting info about creating a new engine while developing the game at the same time. I wonder if this engine will be useful or will they have to toss it alway for next gen. I imagine they are probably not releasing anything else for the ps4 since we only have a couple more years with before the ps5.

I've actually enjoyed the interviews, they've been pretty insightful towards the thinking behind creative decisions and its made me nothing but hyped.

Perhaps they were told from the getgo that they aren't getting a release date from SSM?

The only reason I can think of for them not showing anything about the game is that maybe they are not where they want yet visually. Maybe still figuring out color balancing, post processing effects or something like that lol. It doesnt really make sense not show nothing new if we are this close to a release and the game mechanics are finished. I dont know, maybe someone experienced with game dev could shed a light on this.

Most likely a term of the interview.

Everything pointing out to an announcement next week...
March 20th/22nd is probably the one.

I'm like avoided everything they posted because I don't want to get hyped yet if the game is going to come in June or something. Release date or trailer or I don't care. >:(

JFC people, when they will be sure about release date they will announce it. Stop asking the same questions in every GOW thread.

Really dig the interview and considering it was done back in December after PSX...they're likely done and gone gold or about to.

Can this thing even release in March when we haven't really seen a big marketing campaign?

Absolutely. Same thing happened with God of War 3 and they've been advertising and marketing this one for a couple of months now be it billboard and what not in the UK to the Fiesta Bowl game a couple of weeks back.

We'll likely get the release date next week followed by a new trailer at Super Bowl for the masses.

Man, I thought I would never complain about any info i get for GoW until this coverage came out!
I mean, it's good and all but not for a game that's about to release!

They are going to announce it goes gold before we get a release date at this point. Getting a little annoying.

A game that is supposedly 25 hours in length and nearly finished aside from bugs and we have seen all but five minutes of it without a date in sight.

Sony's marketing is a big mess. Why bother to annouce a game 2 years before the release when you don't want to show any footage in the meantime? They really need to rethink this or just annouce their games earlier.

To be honest we heard almost nothing new from GI coverage. And it really is strange that there is 0 marketing and talk about major PS4 exclusive that is scheduled to be released in next 2-3 months.

Not impressed with the marketing of this game so far. Show gameplay preferably a mini-boss fight and ramp up the hype.

The interviews are cool but that's not enough for a month long coverage. Zzzzzzx

God of War standard version isn't even in the top 100 best selling on Amazon.

I wonder why.

They're not just going to send the new GoW game out to die. I'm sure they know what they're doing regarding the marketing.

There's too much fanxiety surrounding this title.
