Was just thinking about how Crash: The Wrath Of Cortex on PS2 always had this weird, creepy vibe to it for me. I played this game a lot as a kid, and when I revisited it a few years ago when I got older I found that its atmosphere made me quite uneasy. Maybe its the simple PS2 era graphics combined with the games slightly darker color palette and art style.

Any other games like this? Not just a creepy scene in an otherwise family friendly game (Bottom of the Well from OOT), but an entire game that is going for a lighthearted or otherwise not scary tone that gives off this feeling?

Sound off.

Idk if it counts but:
the entire epilogue of RDR2, knowing what happened to Arthur and what will eventually happen to John...was really off-putting.

Something about Ultima: Exodus on NES has always given me an uneasy feeling. I still really like the game, but it's got that melancholy feel for some reason.

This from the Medal Of Honor reboot. There's something really unsettling about it.

Xenoblade 2. The childish story and characters seems to aim at a young audience. But then comes in melon boobs main character that behaves and looks like it comes straight from anime porn.

Throughout the game new characters appear that almost all look basically the same, especially the women, and all dressed like strippers. Not to mention a weird female robot that seems is should be cute and funny but is obviously made as some kind of sex robot from it's inventor, but everyone in the cast smiles about it.

The game starts high but as the pedophile vibe sets in it is just weird.

If the snippet of subtitles weren't there, I could easily scroll past this now-infamous gif and not notice it was CG. I think the zoomed-in cropping just helps make it look like it's a normal person filmed on an average phone camera.

It was all fine for me until I spoke with the blind man and he told me "They will come for you, and when the time comes, you won't have a choice" or something like that, with an ominous music playing just after riding away from him. Freaked me out a bit.

No one has ever heard of Kether, because it was on the CD-i, but it is fucking creepy weird.

I had this game as a kid and had no idea what they were going for with the presentation, the gameplay was rather unremarkable space shooter/dodge asteroids kind of stuff. But all the cutscenes and voice acting is the stuff of nightmares.

One of those games you can't explain how it was created other than drugs. Drugs would also be the only reason to choose to develop for the Philips CD-i.

I remember this Grinch game I had on PS1 that had a really freaky and depressing vibe to it. Pretty sure I didn't get far in it, either, since it was too confusing for me at the time.

GTA San Andreas was really creepy when you are in the jungle at night. Bonus points if the Silent Hill fog starts forming.

All the random ghost cars trying to kill you adds to it.

1) There's a really sudden part in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 where you just get fucking murdered on-screen. Still weirds me out.

2) Idk if it's universal, but on launch-era 360s, GTA 4 would sometimes fail to load NPCs and cars for me but would still play the ambient audio. Creepy as shit.

3) I'm not sure if it's unintentional, but Mad Max can be super creepy when you're just walking around at night. Which can happen if your car gets fucked.

4) It only really applies to first runs, but areas in Dragon's Dogma that are super wide open can be creepy because enemies can hide behind the smallest objects.

That glitch from that one baseball game (MLB The Show 17?) is the most unintentionally creepy thing I've ever seen.

There's a Winnie The Pooh game that inexplicably features a level where you roam around a realistic looking haunted castle with appropriate music, no joke.

The same game also has a mechanic where you duel Heffalumps by scaring them, which is probably meant to look silly. But...

Yeah, i can't imagine the intended audience of toddlers were prepared to see that.

Horizon Zero Dawn hits the uncalley valley pretty hard with how well designed the character faces are but with such creepily robotic facial expressions.

I think the DLC improved them, but in the base game it could be kinda freaky at times how characters flicker between different expressions and emotions.

OG DK trilogy. I mean, DKC2 was meant to have this [very well executed] weird vibe, but the others came out creepy all the same.

I was pretty young but Adventureland (1978) gave me great creepy vibes but I don't think it was always supposed to:

Might have been influenced by the fact that we initially had our TI994a set up in a dingy storage room in our house. But I didn't feel that way about other games on the platform.

I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.

No matter what, I will always go out of my way to make sure this bastard gets locked in the freezer.
Hearing the stuff rattle around on his tray while he slowly clambers towards you is so creepy.

I always thought the original mdk gave off a wierd vibe. Others I can think of are Abe's oddysey, psychonauts, off the top of my head.

The Old City section and its bleak, silent desolation in Mega Man Legends 1 comes to mind, particularly when accounting for the wild dogs as the only noise when they barked before chasing after you and hitting you hard enough to send you flying. Probably intentional, but I always hated that part of the game and often went out of my way to avoid it.
