Title is self explanatory, but also give us a why

  1. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - story and characters were an absolute mess. every battle becoming the same thing and you reach a point where only one 'strategy' is really viable. I am in chapter 9 I think and I havent touched the game in over a month and a half, dont know if Ill ever go back.
  2. Persona 5 - the first 50 or so hours were phenomenal, absolutely amazing. And then it just. kept. going. on. and. on. and. on. Palace 7 took me like 3 months to slog through I hated it that much. I beat it but still havent gone back. once the whole dating/life sim portion of the game ended my interest started to wane.
  3. Metroid Prime - trilogy version, in the large cavern on the way to the final boss is a bunch of platforming and metroids. well these metroids kept hitting me off the platform and I just gave up cuz it annoyed me.

I got to the final boss of Chrono Trigger and was just kinda like "Yup, I've played this game" and haven't had any motivation to actually beat it. I guess I kinda just got everything I wanted out of that game right before the ending. I still love it and consider it probably the best game I ever played.

Apparently I got pretty far in the Witcher 3 before I dropped it. I don't even know why I played it for as long as I did since I didn't enjoy playing it very much.

I dropped MGS2 for like two years after getting smacked around by all the Rays, but eventually went back and beat it.

Most recently Fallout 4. Put in more than 150hours, still didn't manage to finish it.

I think I dropped Mass Effect: Andromeda not far from the end. I just kinda got bored, and there were other games to play at the time. I'm trying to be more disciplined about finishing games before buying new ones, so I might go back and finish it up at some point since it's an okay game.

FF 12. It just becomes such a slog and the story actually comes to a halt, instead of picking up. My first time playing I picked it up after a couple of days but rushed through the game and ignored everything else. The second time I played it a couple of years ago, I simply dropped it at the end, despite having beat every optional boss and had the best gear etc. It's just not worth it.

The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess (Wii)

Just before the last fight against Ganon(dorf). I wanted to 100% collect everything, I never did.

I finished the HD edition on the WiiU though (not 100%), a few months before Breath of the Wild released.

I will often play games right to the final boss and then, if the boss is ridiculously hard and takes me like 10 tries, I'll just quit and watch the end on Youtube.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

I'm literally at the final boss.

But I played the game deliberately under powering myself (makes it more enjoyable for me).

Unfortunately I got busy irl, and put the game down for about a month or so. I went to play it again but it's near impossible to jump into a fairly complex combat system against a hard enemy and be under powered. So i basically needed to grind to get my level up enough for me to win. I don't have time for that.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix.

I rushed the entire game and that fucking boat is impossible with my level at the time. Watched it on YouTube and felt like finished.

Persona 5 - tbh, I think I'm not really at the end but I just felt the repetition sink in real quick. Think I'm about to face the Casino boss.

Bravely Default sort of.
I was stuck at Airy for like an hour. I decided then to use a cheesy invincible combo. Defeated her and the final boss in like 5 turns lol

I'm a big completionist, so the only two games to ever do this with me were Xenoblade 1 and The Last Story.

Xenoblade I got to the last dungeon and there was a giant difficulty spike and I couldn't get additional experiences from extra fights or sidequests because the game pretty much cuts you off from the world for the rest of the game without warning, so I quit,

The Last Story is more simple in that the game just felt boring after the halfway point with the plot getting nonsensical and the battles getting more difficult while you're party was pretty much done growing. I ended up selling my Wii that had the save without making a backup so I haven't gone back to it.

Also this thread is pretty much going to be RPGs, I'm calling it lol.

Paradise Lost
Crysis 3.
Simply lost all enthusiasm for the game by the end and the last sections seemed interminable and bland. Left the game on the end fight and never really cared. It might deserve another try some time.
Great looking game though.

My first playthrough of Bloodborne. I was near the end of the game, but I was just getting a little frustrated with it so I ended up dropping it before coming back to finish it a couple of months later.

FFXIII

I don't remember where I stopped. I think I got past the part where it opens up.

I just stopped caring about any of the characters. When I think about it now, I have no inclination to ever go back to that one.

I was in the last area of Dishonored and thought I'd just get off for the night, and then I never went back to it. I was enjoying it too, so I don't know why I never came back to it. Don't have the game anymore though, so there is no going back.

FFXII, DQVIII, recent playthrough of FFVI that I haven't gone back to.

Almost always has to do with some new thing coming out and I say to myself I'll get back and finish it, then weeks become months become years...

YS Seven. I played most of the game with a single team, and the last boss required several parties. I couldn't be bothered to upgrade weapons, etc... and just dropped the game.

I just started Chapter 10 in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Probably going to take a break and knock out some smaller games (Night in the Woods, Oxenfree, Celeste) as a palate cleanser before finishing.

Snake Rattle 'n roll on the NES when i was a kid, i could go to the final boss on the mooncheese, earning lives and continues, but couldn't find the good rythm to destroy it and abandoned after what seemed like an infinity (cannot remember the timings and lives... last try must have been like 8+12 times 99 seconds ) . On emulator, 15 years later, it took less than 20 seconds to thrash it with autofire on...

I abandoned Gears of war at the final boss as well, the whole game was a piece of cake, but i couldn't find the way to end it.

Persona 5, first half of the game is incredible, I was constant thinking that this is 100% gonna be my GOTY but then the second half just kind of drag on and the game end up losing its charm. Can't even finish it for fuck's sake.

Uncharted 4.
I loved it, played the 19 or 20 chapters in just a few days and didn't want it to end, so I just stopped playing it man.

Bloodbourne. I tried several times but was unable to defeat the boss that is in the hub area. Pretty sure is is the final boss. I was unable to finish the DLC as well. Dark Souls II DLC is also too hard for me.

The latest Tomb Raider I probably forced myself through 2/3rds of the game or so. It is not too hard it just was not very fun for me.

Gave up trying to get the worst ending in Undertale because one of the last bosses required way too much investment in learning patterns.

A Quiet Exit
The youtube ending was my finale with the series and then the cut ending on the special edition, what a mess.

Drakengard 3 true final boss. I love Taro's games, but that final boss is bullshit.

This. I sold the game after experiencing that final boss.

I also quit Dark Souls near the end. Not that I didn't like it, but something else came out before I could finish it that I wanted to play immediately. I just never went back.

Final Fantasy IX: Some boss in the final dungeon kept kicking my ass and I took a break that turned into three years. Finished FFX before I went back and beat the final dungeon effortlessly.

Same thing happened for me and Kingdom Hearts 1 when it first came out. The second form of Ansem at the end of the game destroyed me so handily I just gave up for a full year. Beat him on my first try when I revisited the game.

I also gave up on Nier Automata at the beginning of Route C, but that's just because I was bored and hated the characters and didn't want to suffer through even more of that dead, empty "open world" map just for a plot twist that I could probably see coming from 50 miles away.

I do seem to bail at lot on end bosses, but usually that's because the boss enters a phase where I need to carry off a specific move that I never bothered learning in the main game and by the end my muscle memory refuses to remember how to crouch jump and grenade simultaneously or similar finger gymnastics.

I never beat Final Fantasy 7.

I spent many hours trying to do the Chocobo thing to get Knights of the Round, and could never get the right colors (and iirc, on my TV it was super hard to tell the difference between green and blue chocobos :D), anyways, I went to the final area but had to stop playing and dropped the "Save point item" in a bad spot, really too early in the dungeon.

I tried beating the boss from that save point a couple of times, then just said screw it and never played FF7 again.

Persona 4 Golden. Random dungeons started to really bore me. The story was neat, but I did also start losing interest in the small town aspect of it. P5 is much better so far in both regards, but I do fear it dragging on as others say. I'm at the 3rd dungeon...
