God of War by an absolute mile. But I didn't care for the last of us.

Also those saying should have been vs BOTW, I don't think that's close either. BOTW is still far superior a game IMHO.

I'm not sure enough time has passed for me to cool off on GoW, but right here and now I gotta say GoW. I love the creative take on established Norse Mythology and how its tied in to the series narrative and there were so many great moments and images that will be seared into my gaming memories for years to come. The gameplay has finally gripped me on the level of Devil May Cry such that I was constantly trying out different combinations of juggles, runic attacks, arrows, and ranged attacks out of combat instead of relying solely on tried and true tactics like the previous games.

I've replayed Last of Us at least 5 times. I love the game. You can see the influence of TLoU in GoW. GoW is amazing but the inability to skip cutscenes would deter me from ever giving this game a second playthrough. I do love that the camera never cuts though. Fucking brilliant.

I haven't gotten very far into GOW yet but man it's going to be tough to match Ellie.

The false dicotomies that some outlets make to gain clicks are wierd. Guys we don't need to pick. Both are great games. G watch the Easy Allies interview with corybarlog if you have finished the game and see what the man thinks about this.

What influence exactly? Escorting a child?

I don't really see why this is a comparison... but for me God of War wins by a country mile. It's not even remotely close.

Last of Us has fairly poor gameplay, God of War has probably my favorite single-player gameplay this generation.

Refining UC4's gameplay + TLoU's narrative brilliance would do it for me.
That excellent encounter design in Uncharted 4 and I'd also think some elements of MGSV could fit well, or at least be a source of inspiration. That game still has the best stealth action gameplay, and TLoU gameplay is kinda simplistic.

They have very little in common outside of being well written, so can't really compare them much.
But if I had to pick 1 I think TLoU just edges it for me, very few games have made me feel like TLoU did and although not even close to GoW's, the combat is still really intense and good in TLoU and it has the MP mode.

Also, God of War is like easily twice as long as TLoU, which for me makes replaying it a lot harder.

GoW by a mile.

I'm about halfway through TLOU and i can see why it's considered great, but I have no motivation to continue.

I best GoW's story and I'm still itching to play.

God of War has better gameplay. Last of Us a better story. Depends on how your prioritize the importance of different aspects of a single player, story driven game.

I say God of War is better overall but also feel like Last of Us left more of a lasting impact because it crushed the bar set by everything else before it when it came to character and story. Last of Us was more of a shock to the system.

I'm pretty far into God of War and while it is objectively better in many areas it hasn't hooked me like TLOU did and it probably won't have the same lasting effect on me.

Both are great games.. The Last of Us is the best I played on the PS3, and God of War is the best I played on PS4.
It would be perfect finishing this thread with this quote.

I already saw people shitting on The Last of Us just because.
TLoU is my favorite game of all time, and I'm about 80% done with GoW and it might be a runner up. Why can't be both MASTAPIECE?

I should refrain from speaking on this until I at least get halfway through god of war but the gameplay is just so much better than TLoU that it's hard for me not to pick GoW.

TLoU has an enjoyable story and journey but the cinematic elements really harm it for future replays. All of that forced walking, boosting ellie up to ledges and dealing with pallet "puzzles" makes replaying it a total slog. Not to mention the actual combat isn't that great either, it's merely passable for a 3rd person shooter.

God of War is a much better game.

Big bombastic boss fights, jaw-dropping environments, excellent combat, great characters, a touching narrative, lots of cool side content, loads of different enemy types, etc.

The Last of Us is a great game, but Naughty Dog need to be way more ambitious in the gameplay department for me (in order to compete with what SSM have produced).
I agree. As much as I love TLOU (my favorite game on PS3 with Demon's souls), they'll need to dramatically improve the gameplay in the part 2 otherwise there'll be plenty of harsh comparisons with Bloodborne, God of War or even Monster Hunter World.

A copy pasted TLOU gameplay certainly won't be enough.

If we really have to choose - I much prefer TLoU, really enjoying GoW though.

I just prefer the setting, characters and more sedate pacing of TLoU. The combat is good in GoW, but I find myself playing it for an hour or two and wanting to put it down for the night. I think I preferred the gameplay of the first two games.

GoW is still fresh, buuuut II have a much better time playing it. I dunno I just wasn't as taken in by playing TLoU as most people even though I liked the story.

Totally different games, what a nonsense comparison.

TLOU is a linear game with somewhat wide areas, and the meaning of exploration is mostly to find resources to help you in combat, which is a mix of stealth and 3rd person shooter. Very tight narrative. 15-20h game.

GOW is a much more open game letting you pick what you want to do between main story and side activities, large focus on exploration to find new areas. Melee based combat. 30-50h game including side stuff.

Both are great.
