Thanks to the incredible support from our fans, Gears 5 kicked off the Holiday season strong – attracting over three million players in its opening weekend and setting new records for Xbox Game Pass with the biggest launch week of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation. The performance easily doubled the first week's debut of Gears of War 4 and made Gears 5 the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012's Halo 4. First week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday, September 6, which was exclusive to Gears 5 Ultimate Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. On the PC, Gears 5 has nearly tripled the performance of its predecessor, becoming the biggest-ever launch for Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Game Studios' best-ever debut on Steam.

Well deserved, congrats to the Coalition.

It says 3 Million players in its opening weekend but then says First week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday. Does this mean its only Friday-Sunday or Friday to Monday?

I loved the campaign (still plan to do a co-op campaign run soon too), but man my time with Horde and Escape multiplayer modes has been amazing so far too. This really is an awesome game that deserves to be played.

I think they overdid the PR with this lol, all the other stuff was impressive enough.

Either way it sounds like Gears 5 has done what Microsoft wanted it to do regarding engagement.

Considering that Microsoft was pretty much marketing the game almost entirely as "Play on Game Pass", then yeah it is understandable why it makes sense to discuss that with this, LOL :)

Well not solely but of course GP players are included. Microsoft don't care- retail sales, digital sales, PC GP, Xbox GP they only want your money and G5 is available on all these services for that reason. They got the money of 3 million people in a single weekend through various means.

Yes it's talking about players only. Actual copies sold is likely no where near this. Most people are playing it via Game Pass.

The things about these is that there really isn't anything else analogous to compare it to. It sounds like a big win for GamePass, but I don't know what that really means in the grand scheme of things because MS is the only one doing anything like this

No wonder servers blew up before the "real" launch. Amazing game, loved every second of the campaing and having a blast with the MP.

It helps that the game is great and the PC port is phenomenally good. I've been loving the game so far and I haven't even started the campaign - only Horde and Versus.

Big congrats to The Coalition, very excited to see what Xbox Game Studios has in store for next gen.
