Some of the looks, combat etc more like that new upcoming Granblue Fantasy game for PS4

People saying this is a visual (specifically talking about the visuals here) rip-off of BotW are imo doing the game an injustice. The characters are typically anime.

FdpNvFw.png

You see this style of characters in countless anime and anime-inspired games. They go more for a shoujo anime look rather than the more shounen or Ghibli-inspired look of BotW characters though. The Tales games come immediately to my mind in that regard or the Atelier games.

The environments resemble BotW a lot, yes, but BotW resembles typical anime environments a lot, and there are a lot of other games that also go for a very similar look. Granblue Fantasy comes to my mind...

...looks as close to those games above as is does to BotW.

Last but not least people saying it may look nice on screens but bad (and much worse than BotW) in motion. Come on... This is a 60fps game, it runs very smoothly, and I was just watching beta walkthroughs of the game and the animations are actually pretty good. Surpringly good for a game with what I assume is not that big of a budget.
Ah see someone already mentioned it

Nier Blade: Breath of the Waifu May Cry.
It's more than just imitating BotW's visual.
Era not boycotting this copycat is news to me.

Add this to next year's list of excellent looking JRPGs in the West in 2020:

Final Fantasy 7 remake
Gran Blue Fantasy
Tales of Arise
Lost Soul Aside
Blue Protocol
Babylon's Fall

2020 is gonna blow my mind.

2020 will be indeed crazy good for JRPGs. Can't this year move a little faster? I'm starving.
But I'm worried my most anticipated game on that list, Granblue Fantasy Relink, will also not make it in 2020. It seems so far away, we know so little, we get only tiny bits of info like once a year. :(

Heh, ironically, that guy smashing his ps4 over this game actually brought this to my attention.

The game actually looks really really good.

This is coming to Na?

This looks great, combat looks a lot more fun than BotW. But there's no denying that this is a rather shameless rip-off. It looks like a high-quality rip-off though, the animation work is stellar.

Tyaren's been putting in some good work in this thread. This informative post should answer your question.

I'll recommend to everyone to check out the game's website ( https://genshin.mihoyo.com/) and the Playstation Blog article (https://blog.us.playstation.com/201...enture-genshin-impact-comes-to-ps4-next-year/) for more information about the game. It is not just a BotW clone as some suggested in this or the other thread. There's way more to it and the developer has already many years experience with games and imo a lot of talent.

Here are some general points about the game for everyone who doesn't want to or doesn't have the time to check out the linked websites:

- The game is a single player, story and exploration driven open world action RPG. It is not an MMORPG or a free to play gacha game as many assumed.
- There will be the possibility to bring over a friend to your world to help you out with dungeons or harder bosses.
- There will be over 30 playable characters that you can add to your party of 4. You can switch those characters out seemingly during gameplay/combat.
- There will be 7 geographically and culturally distinct regions, each with their own capital city. Mondstadt, the city we have seen the most for now is one of them.
- There is an online manga (readable for free here: https://genshin.mihoyo.com/en/manga) accompanying the game.
- The game will release Spring 2020 for mobile phones, PC and PS4, there have been/will be multiple betas on PC.
- The game is brought to Playstation with the help of Sony, Sony will also be the publisher of the game.
- Sony did not clarify yet that this game will also come to West, that is however very likely, as it is already localized in English (with Chinese voice acting), playable in English (as a beta) and it was Playstation Europe who shared the PS4 release announcement trailer.

Nah bro it's shameless as hell, even the flame effects are similar they swiped wholesale the environmental art-style/design. It's not a coincidence this was the only game among those shown where this criticism gained any traction.

It looks like more of a "rip off" of Granblue Fantasy than it does of Breath of the Wild, and even at that it looks excellent and brings its own characteristics. It looks fun and the animation work is wonderful.

What I'm kind of not sure about is the amount of hits everything takes to die. The combat looks fun, but it doesn't look like it has the depths of something like Devil May Cry, and yet the enemies take even longer to die than in that game.

BotW did not invent cel-shading. Wide open grassy plains is not an "environmental artstyle" unique to BotW. JFC.

Someone in the Xbox OT mentioned this was coming to X1. Is that not the case?

I'd love to play this on the X.

Celshading is not the only thing that is meant when someone refers to BotW environmental artstyle. These's tons of cel shading games, Botw has a specific color pallete and environmental world design that his game quite clearly copied (it's extremely obvious when little things like the fire effects you'd expect to be different if this were simply a coincidence are almost exactly the same). That's why people refer to it as blatant and shameless as they even went right down to some little details that would hint at plausible deniability. They were very thorough

I don't blame them though if your going to copy might as do it from some of the best.

With Sony's backing, it is greatly implied to come to NA I say, especially with US and EU PlayStation Blog writing articles about it.

Ohh, nice.

In my opinion, I wouldnt say its a rip off of BOTW. It definitely has a lot of elements of it for sure and some effects like the grass and fire look very similar. Also the climbing elements obviously.

Maybe they copied a bit too much? Dunno. But it at the very least looks inspired by BOTW.

Having said that, I'm excited. A BOTW type game on PS4 hardware is intriguing.

The UI is really the only thing in question. Hopefully they make proper changes with it.

Here are several hours of main questing and side questing in the game:

That's imo better handled and more interesting than in most JRPGs. I also really appreciate the well written and often witty dialogue and dialogue options. Really liked the funny part near the beginning of the video when Kaeya's fashionable eye patch was addressed, lol.

I hope they don't get cease and desisted off of the console stores. It feels like people will pick apart the code for this and find BoTW assets in it.

It's funny because i bet Nintendo couldn't give two shits about this (wouldn't surprise me if individuals at Nintendo who are avid gamers, would love to play this game as well), and on the other hand, we have the hardcore fans acting like it's blasphemy against Nintendo.

Edit: You also have the sequel to BotW coming sometime late 2020 and beyond.

Other than the stock anime girl designs, many other aspects so closely resemble their source of inspiration (BOTW) that it feels kind of illegitimate to me. So many things are just uncannily similar.

So, a question to those who have played/watched the betas. According to some of Tyaren's text it's a "single player, story and exploration driven open world action RPG", however, how exploration driven is it exactly? I can't stand exploration which is why I've not been a fan of a lot of this gen's open world games. However I've played my fair share of MMORPGs and I have no problem with open world in general if I can pretty much just play it like a linear game, like Pokemon or something where you just follow the story and go from start to wherever the game ends. The combat looks interesting which is also what usually stops me from enjoying most of the current gen open world games but how enjoyable is the content available if you dislike exploration/plan to just follow the story.

The post also mentions coop in case you can't do the dungeons or the harder bosses which I'm down for but I wonder just how big the focus on that will be when it is supposedly foremost a story and exploration driven game.

Looks great. Hope the content like story, characters and quests are also good enough to keep me motivated.

From a design standpoint, these characters are dressed way too well to be doing Breath of the Wild stuff like free climbing walls and picking flowers.

Most of BoTW Link's obtainable outfits, particularly the earlier ones, accentuated the fact that he's an adventurer roughing it in a barren Hyrule.

These Genshin Impact characters, on the other hand, are way too dressed up in comparison. They more likely to fit in a JRPG or an anime fighter than some action-adventure game with survival elements and free-climbing.

Am I making any sense?

As someone who played the demo, everybody saying it's not a straight ripoff doesn't know what they're talking about. It's about as direct a clone as I've ever seen. The musical notes, sound effects, enemies (they ripped off laser-shooting Guardians even), cooking, gliding, stamina and wall climbing mechanics, etc. Heck, the game even opens up with "Wake up...". It's hilariously blatant.

That said, BOTW was the funnest game I'd ever played so Genshin was an absolute blast as well. My #1 hype to be sure.
