Imagine how tiresome it is to go through it often enough to notice it being a thing and then hearing that you're not alone and that a lot of POC go through similar things. 😃 Hell we can even reduce it down to gaming specifically. Imagine how many quarters I would have if I received one every single time I received a "wait, you're black" in response to that knowledge in an MP game due to "being well spoken" and "well you don't sound black." 😃
....fam I fucking feel this. This is a whole goddamn mood for me. It’s tiring having to defend how I speak, especially to other black folks. I get called out for not sounding southern enough, not speaking like a black person among other things. Hell when I met my best friends in real life after gaming for a year, they were shocked that I was a black guy. Said they never would’ve imagined. The most painful thing to me is that it even mattered to begin with.

What is problematic about people being called wholesome now wh? The way she presented herself onstage genuinely created a more relaxed and cheery atmosphere, so I'm quite confused...

If that poster made a post calling him wholesome i'd love to see it. 😃 Funny enough, there's only TWO instances of the word wholesome in the Microsoft e3 thread, one directed at Keanu, another disparagingly about the Halo cinematic, frankly, the post describing her as wholesome in the bethesda thread genuinely couldn't be more perfect at describing what it looks like:
Oh so we're just talking about a specific word? Come on, Keanu was trending all day on twitter with people praising his attitude and how awkward and lovable he was. People like E3 presenters that stand out, they praised the Unravel guy who was shaking, the stuntman that presented Trials, Tak Fuji going crazy... It's really nothing new and she should be able to enjoy her five minutes of fame like all of them did.

Yea exactly.
I didn't catch Keanu live, but it was wholesome as fuck too. Considering you quoted me.
As someone else said, similar to that Unravel dev shaking uncontrollably and powering through years ago, one of my favorite E3 moments ever. Due to how wholesome and charming it was.

this is a false equivalence tbh
Yeah. Reeves doesn’t have issues being taken seriously in his career.

But female directors? They have to claw their way up a well, and when they get to the top they have to deal with people who think they’re adorable/bitchy (it’s one or the other) for being both a woman and successful in their career at the same time.

I feel like I saw a way bigger reaction from ladies than guys overall, honestly

but this might just be a symptom of my twitter friends being like 85% ladies
Definitely noticed the same on my feed. Hell, two of the artists who drew the fan art in OPs post (don't recognize the others) are women.

More like an attitude in general that's incredibly prevalent among anime and gaming communities. That most people don't even realize until it's rightfully pointed out, and then instead of self reflecting they get defensive. Keeping the same type of microaggression alive and well. Joy. 😃

All of these men are literally treated as memes.
Some of them have fan art too.

It's completely unfair to pair the innocuous stuff with the creepy shit that no one has any control over.

People comment on Sakurai's appearance consistently. He has a non-aging thing going and I've seen post calling him cute on Twitter as well.

There's clear objectification going on with her but a lot of it is projecting.

How? It's literally the same thing in this instance. People liked two people's presentations because of their charisma, and quite frankly also attractiveness.
one's a hollywood actor that has been trumped up for their sex appeal and still maintains a career that is highly lucrative even today. good looks are a part of hollywood-- for better or worse. his likeness is literally being used in the game, that photo is literally a photo of him.

the other is a woman that isn't necessarily a public face that is going to have creepy sexualized artwork produced of her just because she was enthusiastic about a project she's working on.

It's like the game dev version of this meme.

Why people gotta be weird?
It seems like most of the retweeted fan artists are women and not neckbeards

time to restart the conversation about calling asian women cute and/or adorable?
Eh the kawaii/aesthetic culture part of Japanese culture it's not just a western thing

"The cuteness culture, or kawaii aesthetic, has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance and mannerisms. "

So people can't call her cute or adorable despite her acting all twee energetic and enthusiastic for her product? Like, she has a bright bubbly personality, we're not fucking robots.

I had forgotten why I just stick to the Xbox thread when on Era. You all will get upset about anything on behalf of anyone. 🙄
