I've decided for 2020 I'm gonna keep a running list of all the games, movies/TV, albums, and books I completed.

Man, I was really enjoying Gears 5 and then suddenly there is a boss fight where the boss can just one hit kill you when she has like 10% health left. The fight itself is not hard just super tedious and I got one-shotted like 6 times right before the end. And then I beat it, watched the next cutscene walked around a bit and quit the game.

The Quake game CD was a literal audio CD and the game would just play the tracks from it. Which is a problem, because if you buy the game on Steam for example, it doesn't have the music.
I'm listening to the Tech Pod, and Brad saying that more changed from '09-'19 vs. '99-'09 feels like a hot take. There have definitely been advancements in the past ten years, but the 00s were a whole different beast. '99 is damn near unrecognizable when compared to '09. The amont of advancement that happened in the 00s is staggering when you think about it. Smartphones, laptops, wifi, social media, broadband, video streaming all became widespread in the 00s.

Thinking of great in-game future cities the Neo Paris from DONTNODs Remember Me was really spectacular. Really wish those guys took another crack at the action genre. Vampire was really interesting although flawed but you can see a lot of novel ideas in their designs.
Yeah, I have problems with the game but his whole thing about needing more guidance is like... what? Every time you come across Nomai text you see a prompt for the translator. When you go in your ship there are only a few things to interact with -- the cockpit, the suit/refueling station, and your computer. He basically sounded like that time in the MGS HD Collection quick look where he and Patrick were stuck on the roof of the plant chapter for 10 minutes.
it's painfully obvious to see how uninterested jeff is in games that aren't fairly straightforward lead-you-down-the-path affairs. and i mean, that's fine, but that conversation really showed his weakness in this genre.
It's weird cause when it comes to older games, he seems to really appreciate the not so obvious and hidden secret aspects of those...
That said, I don't play as many games as most people here and despite getting lost frequently in the game, I always found something else to point me in a direction and keep me going until I finished the game.

yeah nah, i've yet to see anyone complain about the game because they didn't figure out the translator mechanic and blamed the game for it lmao

Granted I only played like 30-40 minutes of it but I don't remember anything about a translator either. Like Jeff I mostly skipped through the tutorial because as I do in most games where the tutorial is boring af.
Also I haven't listened to the podcast.

I said it in the other thread, but if this was an actual review for Outer Wilds people would be comparing it to that Football Manager review that everyone brings up.
I don't like to be one of those conspiracy theory crazies but it seems nigh impossible that Jeff visited several planets and not ONCE did he encounter a wall of text. Not even once! And he played for several hours.
I had a weird series of dreams last night that somehow ended with me inhabiting my dragon age 2 character in a scenario unfamiliar to me; like being leader a not-skyhold place?? there was a magic compass or something that wasn't working right and there was intrigue and Morrigan was there?? it ended with us all sitting at a big table and turning to see our guest from new york (???), Betty White (???), who was very happy to be there and I was so happy my accent slipped into bad fake australian and also my cat was there

I finally went back to LiS 2. Just finished episode 2, which I abandoned when it came out after a certain thing happened. I'll just spoiler all my thoughts just in case, but the verdict is: this episode fucking sucked lmao, worst LiS-thing by a country mile. Holy hell this episode is bad.
So yeah, I really, really did not like this episode at all. Episode 1 was okay, but idk if I want to play the rest of this now. On one hand I do, so I can see how bad it gets, but on the other hand, 90% of the time I was just really fucking bored playing this.
Ok so first of all, NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS except Mushroom immediately fucking bites it, which is the most cliche, emotionally manipulative move Dontnod could have possibly written. I was shocked because it was SO cliche I thought they wouldn't go there, but clearly I underestimated the degree to which Dontnod loves themselves some tragedy porn, which came up again at the end, because Chris got hit by a car in my playthrough, and I just fucking howled with laughter, because OF COURSE he did. This despite me telling Daniel it was okay to use his power to save Chris earlier, and also me telling him to use his power to save grandpa.
Yet the game, according to the choices breakdown in the end, decided I had told Daniel to hold back on using his powers? So it was both incongruous with what I chose, and it was an incredibly cheap twist on top of that. I must reiterate that I feel this episode failed at the ONE THING LiS games are supposed to be: reactive. But the game actively ignored my choices, and that I didn't get to choose in situations where it would have actually affected the outcome of the story. Like, don't fucking go to the christmas market, morons. Duh. It was so predictable that that would result in them getting spotted and having to leave again.
Then there's the weird budget feel to the whole thing. 90% of the game is unscored, there's just hardly any music at all. Scenes feel incredibly lifeless, with next to no ambient audio. Voice acting is bad and stilted, as are character animations, leading to the feeling of watching a bunch of bad animatronics acting to a voice-over track. Even LiS 1 did not feel this stilted to me (and had much better VO). The script is also pretty bad, and badly needed another pass and some punch-up. One of the major choices was "REMIND THE RULES". What? That's literally ungrammatical lol. You can't remind the rules. You can remind Daniel of the rules. The rules aren't an actor with agency.

I managed to do the museum, get the translator, get the launch codes and fly to the moon area with the lonely guy. I flew to a water world, used the translator and then the cycle ended there.
next cycle i flew into space and killed my character on purpose.
i get he could have skipped the translator but the museum is designed to help the player, skipping it entirely, how would you even find the launch codes?

I have set my desktop wallpaper to being Outer Wilds using wallpaper engine so I am placated. Jeff's slight against one of the GOATs will be forgiven.
