anyone else looking forward to All Systems Goku tomorrow

I keep watching only a few episodes during the week and then catching up on the rest during Monday, which is a bad idea

Surely we can resist posting in the new thread for 5,000 posts.

You're doing well, definitely. It's easy to lose someone, generally the person in a light 'Mech (aka Dekker) early on due to inexperience or just some bad luck.

And don't worry too much in the 1-2 skull range. Half-skull misions are just tanks and turrets, and perhaps light 'Mechs. On harder missions you'll get better salvage, since you're fighting more 'Mechs, which will let you get better lances. (A lance is the 4 MechWarriors that you deploy on a mission.)

Just remember that you can withdraw from missions that go pear-shaped. A good faith withdrawl (complete one mission objective and then bailing) will even give you some of themoney from the contract. It's very useful during bad intel missions that are more difficult than they are supposed to be. And yeah, deceptively difficult missions are a feature, not a bug.

I've pretty much abandoned light mechs at this point and transitioned to all mediums, so nobody is too fragile. Everyone is less maneuverable but I try to move people around so they can easily flank, it's worked out so far! Plus I've tinkered around with my weapons to try and maximize what I want them to be. Like putting a PPC and LRM10 and a bunch of heatsinks on one so it can be a sniper, or another has an AC5, a large Laser and a bunch of medium lasers, or whatever.

Whoops, didn't even realise this was the new thread.

...

Oh well, I'm here now.

Good choice. Light 'Mechs kinda get obsoleted moreso than any other weight class, due to how fragile they are. There's a few instances where you might want to run one instead of a Medium, but that's it.

And as far as weaponry, there's some really great sniper/long range 'Mechs out there. The Trebuchet (medium) or Jaegermech (Heavy), for instance. Try to take out the pilot (via injuries) or leg destruction to get it faster--it gives you more salvage. And be really careful when fighting 'em, they're scary.

so what is the "hump" to get over in GoW? minimal spoilers pls
It generally starts picking up around the time you encounter another character that spends some time with you and is very knowledgeable about the world
That's a bit before halfway through, maybe 10 hours in. Around that time the combat opens up and the story gets going

For me it's when you get that third + fourth tier of combat skills. The dash-into-light-attack stuff, the follow-up attacks after counters, the recall-into-attack moves, the runic summons, they all make the combat system feel way more complete. Suddenly everything was flowing really nicely and I was stringing together really cool chains of attacks.

I feel like I say this every OT. What's the reference this time? Judging by the Blinx comment, is it in the Xbox One at One and Xbox One at One 2 videos?
