Confirmed: PlayStation will not be attending E3 2020

"After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020," said a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson. "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year."

"We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans."

Expected, they'll probably do their E3 announcements but won't have any stage presence there. E3 is slowly dying off in favor of individual presentations. PSX it is.

Instead it will attend 'hundreds' of consumer events to showcase upcoming games for PS4 and PS5.

what does that even mean?
So they won't be having a big event to showcase the PS5?

This year just keeps getting worse.

Skipping E3 and saying they’ll do hundred of events sounds like a big fuck you to ESA

Compared to last year this is pretty obviously a "arrogant Sony move" but it's at least somewhat justified. Still, I wouldn't have seen the harm of even just having booth space there. E3 still attracts a lot of people in the general periphery of gaming.

Arrogant Sony
Arrogant Rockstar

The nerve of these two!

...

Good. With E3 trying to rebrand itself into something else, I think more publishers should do the same and hold their own events.

E3 is dead and gone.

E3 is in serious trouble. I'll miss its halcyon days...

A logo and a rumor spawned thousand posts threads here and made international news, at this point do they need to do anything?
