I know Sony had some strict guidelines about not spoiling stuff, especially story related. So maybe a big site like GameSpot could be a little excused for just showing off environments. Though, it's still kinda lame in doing so.

No one particular incident. The GB community in just about every thread, Youtube video, and podcast comment section constantly ragged on Patrick for any number of childish, BS reasons. Very early on, there was a laughable petition to have him fired from GB for more childish, arbitrary reasons, but it obviously went nowhere. The man was a fantastic journalist and person from everything I have read on him, but he just got so much unwarranted hate. I have a vague recollection of him standing up for the (true) targets of Gamergate, and perhaps that's what triggered all the snowflakes.

Ryse was actually awesome. I don't even have an XB1, but I got Ryse on steam. I know GOW is getting huge accolades as an established franchise, but honestly, I feel like the quality between Ryse and the current GOW aren't going to be anything beyond the hype.

Damn at least Bloodborne almost got out of the dog house with that 70. Shockingly for USGamer, they were 2 for 2 with Uncharted 4 getting 4/10 and Horizon getting a 5/10 but GOW seems to have broken the curse.
