Everyone at GOG believes in a 'gamers-first' approach. It means that every part of our store is designed with gamers in mind and your purchase safety and satisfaction come first for us. The latest update to our voluntary Refund Policy adds another piece to this customer-friendly experience. And it all sums up in one sentence: starting now, you can get a full refund up to 30 days after purchasing a product, even if you downloaded, launched, and played it. That's it.

It's important for us to say that this update is possible thanks to your respect for all the time and hard work put into creating the games you buy on GOG.COM and playing by the rules. We're grateful for that and encourage you to continue to do so.

Source: GOG.com

Edit: Here's the F.A.Q on refunds:

1. How does your updated voluntary Refund Policy work?
The updated policy lets you refund a product up to 30 days after purchase, even if it was downloaded, launched, and played. Yes, you read that correctly. :)
To apply for a refund, you should contact our Customer Support Team within 30 days of your purchase, and our team will sort it out as soon as possible.
However, if the reason you are seeking a refund is that your game is not working (yet!), please consider contacting our friendly Tech Support folk first. They will do their best to help you get the game working on your machine.
We're monitoring the effects of the current update to make sure no one is using this policy to hurt the developers that put their time and heart into making great games. We may refuse refunds in such individual cases. We'd also let you know about any future adjustments in the voluntary Refund Policy in advance.

2. How long does it take to process a refund?
When you apply for a refund, we can give you two options - a conversion into GOG Wallet funds, or a cash refund back to your original payment method.
GOG Wallet refunds will be applied as soon as a GOG.COM Support representative triggers the refund.
Cash refunds can take a few business days, depending on the exact payment method used, your bank, etc. There are some exceptions, such as paysafecard, SOFORT, and GiroPay - for technical reasons, these transactions need to be fully processed before they can be refunded; this can take up to a few weeks.
I received a gift from a friend. Can I apply for a refund?
We can only offer a cash or GOG Wallet refund to the person who purchased the gift. If the person who purchased the gift prefers to receive a full refund, this is possible, however, they should contact us about this separately.

3. What about pre-orders?
Pre-orders can be refunded throughout their pre-order period (as in - until they get released), and for 30 days after their release date.

4. What about Games in Development?
We're extending the refund time for Game in Development titles to 30 days after purchase, just like for any other game.

5. What about game packs and DLCs?
For technical reasons, we cannot divide a game pack (for instance, a season pass, a pack containing the base game and its DLCs, or a pack containing a whole series of games). As a result, you would get a refund for the full pack and, as a consequence, the full pack will be removed from your account.
If you apply for a refund for a DLC, and it was not purchased as a pack (bundled with the base game), we can issue a refund for the DLC itself.
If you refund the base game, but also purchased DLCs separately, we would also refund the DLCs linked to that base game.

6. How often can I refund my games? Is there some sort of limit?
We trust that you're making informed purchasing decisions and will use this updated voluntary Refund Policy only if something doesn't work as you expected.
This is why there are no limits but instead, we reserve the right to refuse refunds in individual cases.
Please respect all the time and hard work put into making the games you play and remember that refunds are not reviews. If you finished the game and didn't like it, please consider sharing your opinion instead. Also, please don't take advantage of our trust by asking for an unreasonable amount of games to be refunded. Don't be that person. No one likes that person.

7.What if my country provides additional rights?
Just let us know. We respect regional laws, to learn more see sections 7.1. and 7.2. of the GOG.COM User Agreement.

A very cool move but this will be abused a lot.

I hope to be proven wrong.

"No time limits" means that people can finish games and then refund them...? Did i get this wrong...?

Edit: oh, ok. So they're going to allow refunds on a case-by-case basis? Seems like a lot of work.

It will be abused but it is a smart move in differentiating itself from competitors ala Costco's return policy so I see it working for them in the end.

Definitely sounds pretty abusable, but it's neat that they're doing this for their customers.

You can abuse Steam's refund policy by using Offline Mode, as time played while offline isn't tracked. But this would tantamount to, and more work than, simply pirating the game.
Yeah but don't forget Valve blanket stops you from refunding games if you refund alot of your purchases. Tho they can see achievements

They are probably thinking that the kind of people that would abuse this system would just pirate the games anyway. They don't really have the means to track play time if you launch the game without GOG Galaxy.

Played for how much time?

I refuse to believe there's not a limit.

I confirmed with Valve that's not actually the case, after Sterling published a video on Arkane's "Use Steam's refund policy to demo Prey17" comment in which he says the same thing. (See, video game bloggers/vloggers? Doing the bare minimum of research isn't hard. ;)) While requesting many refunds in a short space of time will trigger the caution e-mail, Valve examines "a variety of factors", not just frequency, when deciding on whether to blacklist; so as long you're refunding for legitimate reasons, you don't have anything to worry about.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever been blacklisted.

i refund every 5th or 6th purchase - and it seems to be fine. Whatever metrics they're using, theres more than enough bandwidth for honest folk who just want to refund.

This is pretty great of them. They where always very consumer friendly (the whole fair price thing was great of them for as long as it lasted). Definitely going to be getting more games on their site.

From what I have read people do abuse this, specifically for Denuvo protected games. I'd assume it isn't incredibly popular though.

If there's no time limits, this is going to be massively abused. People already steal GoG games as is.

That's nice, but I don't care what their policy is if it's not an automated process.
The last time I dealt with GOG support to get a refund - for the first time on an account with over 200 games - it was like trying to get blood from a stone.
Their support were rude, it took nine emails back-and-forth over the course of a week, and I felt like they were treating me as if I was only trying to get a refund to get the game for free. They did not want to give me my money back.
Haven't bought a game from them since.

Amazing. This definitely will make me buy more single player games on GOG. A lot of times it takes me weeks to get around to playing a game (if not longer). Also many times gamestopping bugs don't show up until you're deep into it.

Most people can beat a game under 30 days. I suggest them to have a time limit like other store. If they want to beat them in this regard maybe increase the duration window? Because otherwise tons of people will be playing games for free.

Sure, some people will abuse this system, but the games are DRM free anyways so what difference does any time limit make? If people want to pirate the games they will.

GoG has no DRM on their games so to people who would abuse this, its just easier to pirate the game.

I hope other stores follow or at elast make their refund policy more lax.
IMo 2h for a strategy title is too low. For many strategy titles i can't even finish the tutorial in that time.

So if they can already do it why would they abuse this new policy? It's more steps to go through GOG and then refund at like day 29 then just to pirate, people who pirate will continue to do so and this only helps legit consumers who either don't like a game or get a game and it doesn't run well either the game or the computer it's played on.

This opens up people to get to play new games the moment they unlock like paying customers, beat it, and return it because they bought it in bad faith and want to essentially trade in after a few weeks.
