Going to my first Brazilian steakhouse

Be careful not to fill up on the salad bar. Ask if there are any off-menu cuts of meat available. Don't fill up on meat you could easily make at home (e.g. sausage, chicken, blah blah blah).

edit: also they will usually cut most of your meat off, then you are supposed to grab the almost cut-off meat with your tongs, and then they will finish cutting the meat.

Bring a large Ziploc bag and choose a table in a corner, away from prying eyes. You'll be able to eat for days 😉

I've never been to a Brazilian stakehouse, but I've been to a Brazilian steakhouse.

What's the difference between a stakehouse and a steakhouse?

Fogo de Chao has beef rib that is off-menu. The fried bananas there are worth filling up on! They are that good.

When the picana guy rolls around, after he cuts off a piece for you, demand 15 more.

Don't eat too much from the salad bar or bread. If they have beef rib ask for it because they don't bring that around as often as the other meats.

Oh fogo de Chao
Had it once on DC, loved it
I remember there's 1 meat that's pretty much drenched in garlic, I think it was sirloin?

This is good advice if you want to avoid awkward staring contests with the waiter.
Ah man, it's been a while I last went to a Brazilian steakhouse, I went to a Mexican all you can eat restaurant yesterday, so maybe I'll tell my friends to go to a steakhouse next week.

Fogo is pretty nice. The fried bananas are delicious, and the cheese rolls are really good as well. Find out what meats they have on rotation, and if one you like or want to try isn't making the rounds near you, ask for it. Check out the salad bar, but don't fill up on it.

There isn't really a dress code since I've seen people there in shorts and short sleeves, but I usually wear something business casual at most.

Fogo is honestly kind of wack. Appetizer/salad bar are really bad. The meat is just fine.

There is no dress code. It's not a fancy restaurant, it's just expensive.

I've always wanted to go there and should make a point to do so now that there's nothing really stopping me.

Holy shit, you are in for a treat op. Here Ogami Itto, let me help you out:

Allow me to help you out with things you should ask for:

Linguiça: it’s sort of like sausage, but a LOT better.
Entrecot: a type of meat cut, but Brazilians perfected.
Costela: One of my faves, but high on fat.
Pão com alho aka garlic bread, I doubt anywhere is as good as done in the Brazilian way. I’ll check out the website to see if I can help you out further.

Tips:
  1. Wear pants that are not tight around the waist area.
  2. Identify a designated driver before eating commences. (Those who partake to the fullest will likely feel like absolute shit afterwards)
  3. Pace yourself. Meat temptations will be abundant and your jaw will start to hurt.
  4. Know when to call it quits. Don't waste food.

Dont fill up yourself with rice/salad/french fries. Each waiter brings a different meat. Dont ever get more than 2 pieces of meat at the same time, wait till you finish at least one of them before getting another one. If you like one particular meat you can tell a waiter and he will ask someone to bring that one for you.

Aside from the meat I recommend getting pineapple and fried banana (only one otherwise you will be full too quick). Beans and vinagrette are great as well. Not sure but there will probably have some Farofa and fried Mandioca.

Oh, Caipirinha is amazing and eat lots of Picanha.

Also, fraldinha is usually less fat than picanha, but do yourself a favor and save space for both.

Trivia: fried bananas aren’t really a thing here, at least not with traditional "churrasco", ala barbecue. Fogo doesn’t serve linguiças?

They do! OP, ask for ‘spicy pork sausage’. If they are able to do it like it’s done here, it’s glorious.

The place is great! Went for my birthday a few years back. No dress code, the food was really good. Prepare to overeat lol. Remember to flip that little tokn they give you when you've had enough because they don't mess around and will keep that food coming

Ask for picanha with all the sides.
Get a caipirinha.
????
Enjoy one of your best meals ever.

Also likely gain a few pounds on that meal alone.

Everyone that comes here loves pão de queijo, and I’m not exactly sure why. I mean it’s good, but not exactly something I lose my head over with. But yeah, pão de queijo aka cheese bread is a good call.

Caipirinha would be great. As for side dishes, make sure of asking for polenta, it’s awesome and actual traditional food from here.
Personally I’m biased to a simple black beans+rice+ fries+ farofa (if available) to go with it.

Some places also serve fried banana but eh, not for me that one.

Otherwise caipirinha is definitely a must for me as well.
