These awards are a farce. How are you gonna have a remake be GOTY in a year with Death Stranding, Disco Elysium, Apex Legends and, as your rightly said, Sekiro. I say this as somebody who loved RE2 Remake and was hyped for it for years, but GOTY? It ain't that.No Sekiro. Anywhere.

Same people that voted on Fortnite. At least there is some time and reason to it even if I don't agree with the choice.
It's a remake, not a remaster. Everything is redone from ground up, including game design.
This is just because everyone's laughing at Days Gone / Storytelling, isn't it?

You are right, I said it was a remaster instead of a remake in error. Edited my original post accordingly.
Days Gone didn't deserve that best story award, but it still has a better one than the mess that is Death Stranding's story.
If tehre's one thing Days Gone is better at than DS, it's the story lol.
I mean out of these categories I don't see where it fits. Sekiro would win a "best action game" and be nominated for "Game of the year" but they don't do that here I think.

No Disco Elysium makes me sad. Always the same type of games in these lists. Popularity contest. Meh.
Actually, I agree. Days Gone has excellent writing and some of the best character development (ever) in a game. It was worth playing past the so-so first hours.
RE2 is the obvious pick for consensus GOTY. Reviewed well, popular series, and it's 6 hours long so a ton of people have finished it.

GOTY season is the worst. This forum can act all pro-developer all year long, then GOTY season hits and the maturity level gets flushed down the toilet.
Control winning Critics' Choice and RE2 winning GOTY is perfect. Easily the top two games of the year.
I imagine almost all of the people complaining about the award didn't even play the game. The story was good, and I actually can't think of any other game that I played at least that was better.
There was a list of nominees in each category or any voter just wrote their thing?

I think RE2, Sekiro, Control and Death Stranding will get the most Goty awards this year, with FE, Disco Elysium, Outer Worlds and Astral Chains in the wings.
I was surprised to see Dreams listed as nominee for best PS4 game tbh, as I guess technically it is listed as Early Access, but also that Sekiro got nothing at all.
Might be a sign of things to come (for the best reviewed original game of 2019), but that would be a shame.
