Kind of surprised to see Disco nominated for Ultimate Game of the Year but not for PC Game of the Year. In fact the biggest award is literally all it was nominated for.
How is possible for Smash to win the best Nintendo game award and then not be nominated for the Ultimate Game of the Year Award... when Fire Emblem Three Houses is?!

The nominee list kinda explains a lot. The Storytelling category, only like three-four of those were widely played and Days Gone probably the most, so in a public vote it easily won.
With the Playstation list, same thing. The big choices are pretty much Dreams and Days Gone, so it went to Days Gone.

Thing is, even if the missions were the best the series has ever seen, that Casino alone invalidates the choice on its own. It's the worst gambling we've seen so far outside of maybe NBA 2K20, and that's saying something. The whole thing is super fucked up.
Even if the casino itself wasn't such an atrocity though, this thing got absolutely nothing over Iceborne or Shadowbringers.

Its not really a super niche title. The only games that outsold it on that list is Apex and COD. Its just like the Era Goty poll. A good portion of voters will still be enthusiasts.

I'm sure there's a lot of things people are going to be indignant about, but for me the most egregious of the lot is how the fuck did "GTA ONLINE CASINO UPDATE" wins best expansion in the year where MHW ICEBORNE and FFXIV SHADOWBRINGERS came out with blazing hot reviews?!
Agreed, the story is so much better than I thought it would be going in. It's all in the delivery, I loved the acting as well.
And the game is great fun as well.
nah both those awards are well deserved.
The only one that doesn't make sense is giving Studio of the year to the company that's legit didn't release a single new game this year.
But even that one isn't so bad if they supported fortnite well throughout the year.
