The last flagship iterations didn't, so this one probably won't either.

Likely just a coincidence. You can only arrange three camera lenses and a flash in so many ways.
When your current phone is performing so poorly that a premature reveal of the next iteration will have no impact.
I mean they also straight up copied the gestures, privacy controls (right down to the options), and - if the rumours are true - True Tone as well.
That's interesting. Wonder how the front would look like, but it's already better than the existing designs (and I like my Pixel 3).

Companies are always looking forward to what competitors are doing to try to stay ahead. Everyone know for months what iPhone X would be like with the notch and Android phones with notches were well in development by the time it released.
