“新生”グラスホッパー・マニファクチュアが多数人材を募集中!来たれ熱き人。須田剛一氏とスタジオスタッフに社内文化や野望を訊いた。 - AUTOMATON

グラスホッパー・マニファクチュアが、ゲーム開発者を募集中だ。新たにNetEase Games傘下に入り新生する同社に、今後の志や社内文化などを訊いた。

They're hiring to boost from 30 to 60 employees, and leverage the support development staff of NetEase on top of that. They're aiming to create three new games for the next decade with Suda as director. They consider their games to be A games, but now are aiming to go AA.

There have been discussions with Marvel Studios to create something together but for now are focusing on original IPs they can own until a good idea has been found. They hire people with or without experience with Unreal Engine, they also accept overseas applications as long as you can communicate in Japanese.

They also highlight they want inquisitive minds who take the initiative, as the culture of the studio is not as corporate. For example, they do not follow the normal process of planning, writing, makign concept art for a character, but have someone come up with a character that no one understand and then they go "that's cool, this character will be a boss in the middle point of the game". Suda also does not give detailed instructions and leaves it to the staff to come up with something most of the time, so if you're the type to wait for orders or wait until something happens, this might not be the place for you.

They are also looking to allow younger members in their twenties to occupy bigger positions and allow them to shine.

Looking forward to some new ips from Suda. Hopefully the increase in size will greatly benefit the studio

If they were able to make No More Heroes 3 with 30 people, they can go far with 60.

Especially since they're not averse of leveraging things from Unreal Engine such as the marketplace. They used a lot of assets from there to speed up asset creation and such.

I take it they've been talking with Marvel Games and not Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios reaching out to Grasshopper of all developers would be hilarious.

Wow, I didn't know that. I wonder what genre would he dive into? Stay the action route, or perhaps move into something a bit more niche? Would love to see him do another action rpg.

Probably action in the vein of No More Heroes 3 but with more budget. Suda said Grasshopper will keep being an action game studio

When it was revealed James Gunn was writting and directing GOTG, I'd figure a licensed game made by GhM would be coming due to GUnn's writing for Lollipop Chainsaw. That never came. So if any connection to Gunn or something as zany yet popular Deadpool isn't a good idea for them...hhmm. Interesting.

Tromeo and Juliet is legit good version of Romeo and Juliet. Better than wherever the fuck Baz Luhrmann was doing.
