Technically yes, GTA6 will be something dramatically fun, but I a more pessimistic about the rest.

The mission design in RDR2 has shown zero progression at Rockstar since GTA San Andrea : lenght, structure, rythm are identical. They seems good at building a sandbox but not that much into using it.

The other major problem is Dan Houser as a writer, but I am too tired to argue today. Just to resume it simply : he's an amateur who hires professionals to hide it, what gives stories that are well crafted on details, but terribly confuse, erratic and incoherent over time.

Without a doubt. R* only produces bangers tbh

And after RDR 2's massive jump from GTA V when it comes to visuals and world building I can't even imagine how wild GTA VI will be.

like literally the weirdest take is the idea R* is giving up on single player gaming because of the massive success of GTAO

people said RDR 2 single player was going to be short handed, and people are already saying it for GTA 6
Rockstar threads bring out a lot of weird takes and anger on ERA for some reason. Safe to ignore like 98% of it.

RDR 2 had an incredible narrative though

Because rockstar threads now a days bring out a lot of weird takes. Like how supposedly there just going to focus on multiplayer. People said the same thing about RDR 2 that it won't have a deep single player cause online is there focus now a days. It's just dishonesty, and now people are saying the same for GTA 6
It's confidence inspiring to see R* bring the heat with RDR2's singleplayer, but people didn't pull that out of nothing. RDR and GTA 4 were well supported with beloved single player DLC expansions, but GTAV... Nothing, because GTAO made more in Shark cards than Rockstar could hope to make with TONS of singleplayer expansions for a fraction of the work. People thought it might be an indication of reduced focus on singleplayer in the future. That's not that crazy, and it may yet come to pass.

The best parts about GTA don't even usually come from Rockstar. It's the community that mods it. Although I guess they do make the big sandbox we play in.

As long as the housers are there at rockstar you'll get single player dedicated campaigns

Fingers crossed, and RDR2's story was great, but I'm still sad knowing that we probably won't get any singleplayer stories as expansions in the future, which means far far longer between narrative content from them.

Glorious? More like laborious, judging by Rockstar's ever increasing focus on "immersion", forever sluggish basic controls, and their always stupidly inflexible mission design.

hope the mission design is more open like in earlier GTAs. THe mission design kind of ruined RDR2's campaign.

The production values will be other wordly, so I'll definitely buy just to walk around and enjoy the graphics.

I don't see why they'd make GTAVI until GTAO sales begin to decline. People are still buying that game, and those that have it are spending a tonne on in-game currency and casino chips.

Doubt we'll see GTAVI anytime soon.

Two potential no no's for me.

1) If the game asks me to tap A by default to run, I'm going to turn it off straight away.

2) If they write another character like Trevor to be in it, I'm going to eject the disk and throw it out the window.

RDR2 had a huge amount of resources put into, massive budget and dev time and it's still baffling to me that the combat is pretty average

I think that maybe all the world-simulation makes it harder to "cheat" with regards to shooting to make it feel better compared to other more shooting-focused 30FPS games. In theory, better CPU should help with that but I'm not betting on it.

Because GTA games take 5+ years to develop, so they have to guess when and how GTAO sales will decline.

What they can probably do is increase development time to polish GTA6's Online mode if GTAO is performing better than expected and release the game a year later. I don't think they can afford more leeway than that with the magnitude of their payroll.

This is true, but it's reasonable to predict that GTAO won't decline anytime soon. Also, a period of downtime as people play other things, between leaving GTAV:Online and going to GTAVI:Online would hardly be a problem for Rockstar and Taketwo.

Porting the current GTA Online to next gen platforms seems likely, to be honest, that way they can take as long as they please with GTA:VI. Otherwise, I imagine the generational transition will affect their playerbase significantly.

Pretty game for the time that has a world full of so many mediocre things dedicated games serve far better and it generally plays like ass. Like IV and V.

I'm not convinced they have the writing chops for modern satire. They created good characters in RDR2, but GTA5 felt really flat by comparison.

They'll port GTAV to next gen consoles. There has to be a reason it hasn't received a Pro/X patch despite being such a strong seller and money making giant.

It probably will.

I like GTA, but man, people sometimes oveerestimate the game too much. I feel like 5 could have way more side quests to do after the story mode, but it was cut in favor for multiplayer. I lost almost all interest after the story was done.

GTA V is a landmark video game

its not bad by any means
I genuinely feel like GTA 4 and 5 have failed to capture both the zaniness of their earlier GTA games, and the cinematic luster of RDR and notably RDR2. Playing them felt like going through the motions. I understand I'm in the minority and I don't say this to antagonize you, but they didn't strike a chord with me.

Going to be crazy. I'm hoping they go with density over breadth though. Certain devs in certain genres are bar for visuals...R* is that bar for open world.

The shooting mechanics are pretty bad and the melee system downright awful. When we got games in the genre like Sleeping Dogs doing both far better it really turns me off GTA games.

The world is also full of a mass of mediocrity, shitty golf, shitty tennis etc. If I wanted to play these I'd buy dedicated games for them. I don't know why anyone would enjoy the GTA versions outside of not knowing better or being that kid who gets like 2 games a year, one of birthday and Xmas.

Driving is about the only we'll done mechanic in GTA games.

When the team tells me that having a female character is out of the scope because masculinity is the center of a GTA story, i am not too convinced the next installment will be glorious.
Fun for sure, but it will lack what would make it glorious for me.
(It would also require lasting effects physics, when i create a roadblock it STAYS THERE when i go 'round the block)

After RDR2, I don't trust that anything Rockstar makes will have gameplay mechanics or mission design that has evolved past the year 2010. With that game they had multiple studios and thousands of people across the globe working on it for close to a decade, spending hundreds of millions of dollars, and yet the core gameplay still suckssssssssss. I have no doubt that the characters, story, graphics and open world technology will be brilliant though.

Hopefully the multiplayer is actually decent since GTAV's is pretty fucking shit. Hopefully they have some form of built in mod support so stuff like GTARP is much easier for people to do.

I mean, GTA has always been a parody of a certain vain masculinity, these games are crime centric which tends to be a world that is male dominated

It's possible that Dan Houser and the writers just don't want to do a female protagonist. It might be upsetting a little bit, but if they feel comfortable writing the characters they want, I'm not going to use that as a criticism

It'll be a hell of a game, for sure.

Not sure I'll be excited for it though. I've convinced myself that what I really want from GTA is an 80's spin off that looks and plays like Hotline Miami x GTA1, and I'm not sure I'll find anything else all that interesting.

GTA5 feels terrible to play IMO, if they finally get it together in the control/gameplay department it could be glorious indeed. So frustrating having these beautiful mindblowing Rockstar worlds be a huge chore to explore on foot.

Look, all I want for them is to cut down the multiple protags to 2, be based in vice city with more single player features than V, and for the love of god no more useless features like Yoga.

oh, and a worthwhile 100% reward.

80s/early 90s vice city with parts of south America like Colombia and the islands in between. Jungles of Colombia and dealing with the cartels and govt there, moving undetected to vice city. You could have competing cartels, cia, corrupt governments, private military companies, it goes on and on.
That sounds fucking incredible.

I'll now be disappointed if they don't do this.

It will probably be the same as GTAV for me. I'll get bored of the story and mission structure after a day or two then mess about with motorbikes and helicopters for a week then be done with it.
