First I saw this tweet get linked on Discord where it was pointed out that Guerrilla now specifically notes which openings are for their Online Project (and there's quite a lot):

View: https://twitter.com/Jorraptor/status/1603731862563741696

But looking further into their site, there's actually even more definitive clarifications on the nature of the game, starting off with the Lead World Designer explicitly stating it is a Horizon project for a multiplayer audience:

We create awe-inspiring worlds - Guerrilla

Guerrilla is one of Europe's leading game companies and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe. We started in 2003, and have pushed the boundaries of technical and artistic excellence in our games ever since.
Guerrilla is looking for a Lead World Designer to bring the expanding Horizon universe to a multiplayer audience. As the successful candidate, you will head up the World Design team on one of our ambitious, unannounced projects, and work with multi-disciplinary teams to create a game of the highest possible quality.

And these ones mentions the focus on cooperative gameplay:

This one is for a Narrative Designer on this Horizon Coop game and mentions wanting to "push the boundaries of dramatic storytelling in Open World Games", which I guess both points to sticking with the open world map and to still maintaing some narrative focus

There's many more openings there with possibly more information about the game, but it very much sounds like a Horizon Open World take on a Monster Hunter styled game based on all the descriptions.

I asked for a Monster Hunter type game in the Horizon universe for quite some time.

So I hope it's just like that.

I'm really looking forward to see it.

Yeah, I heavily doubt Sony can fulfill their promise of as many singleplayer games as multiplayer ones if basically all their major studios working on the latter.

With that combat and the traps and stuff; this could be an absolute banger.

I'm assuming they'll let us create a character; I don't think I can play another game as Aloy.

A Sony done Monster Hunter clone set in the Horizon universe might be pretty cool. I still want a Killzone prequel that would build off of Horizon gameplay/exploration wise but I guess this is good enough.

If it's like Ghost of Tsushima: Legends then good. I might try it.
GoT: Legends was amazing. Normally I play no MP games at all.

Bend - 1
BluePoint - 1
Firesprite - 1 (Narrative Horror)
Guerilla - 1 (Horizon 3)
Housemarque - 1
Insomniac - 2 (SM2 and Wolverine)
Naughty Dog - 1 (TLOU 3)
Pixelopus - 1
SMS - 1
Sucker Punch - 1
Team Asobi - 1

Plenty of first party single player titles in development. In fairness, to Sony.

this is for that horizon mmo being made with ncsoft or what?
Sounds like they're making this title and an MMO.

I did think that there were some elements of the skill trees in Forbidden West that felt like groundwork or proofs of concept for multiplayer classes.

Some of the weapon types would probably work better as specialists within a squad than they do in a single-player game: Maybe one character in a team uses a ropecaster and traps to slow the target machine; another directs an overridden machine to attack weak points using targeting arrows (that I think I used maybe twice in HFW); a couple of other players use arrows and bombs to do the damage.

hmm, might be but i think it's quite a lot of speculation that its a new project by others here, it makes sense they are positions for the partnership with ncsoft that is already known

because dont see any evidence of this being a new project, it makes sense they are positions for the partnership with ncsoft
I was thinking of mentioning that in the OP, but there's also dedicated job openings for external projects, which is where I imagine partnerships like that would fall into, GG had a director for this project for several years now, long before the supposed deal with ncsoft was signed.

hmm, interesting. i would be more excited if its a different project maybe something like a monster hunter world game (but i dont want this just to be a monster hunter clone). personally i have no faith in the mmo project partnership with ncsoft, ncsoft has a terrible record in the mmo genre

Selfishly I hope it isn't TOO much like Monster Hunter. Not a fan of that type of pure grindfest where you kill the same shit over and over again praying for the correct drop. Give me something more mission and objective based but with dope boss fights.

I'm not the biggest fan of multiplayer games, but I'm glad to see Guerrilla pushing Horizon to new heights and nurturing great ambitions. The Horizon IP has a lot of potential and co-op play is one of those things that just makes sense.

So yea, the official tweet states this project is in development by an internal team, so idk what that NCSoft deal is about (if it is even accurate), but this is a completely separate thing.

The job openings mention an External Project, which could very well be the NCSoft MMO.

As much as i've enjoyed Horizon 1 on PS4 i personally don't understand why so many games suddenly need to be made in this universe.

Horizon 1
Horizon 1 DLC
Horizon 2
Horizon 2 DLC
Horizon: The VR game
Horizon : The MP game
Horizon: The MMO-like
Horizon: The TV-show
Horizon 1 Remake (rumor)

Does this series print money or why is this such a focus for sony all of a sudden?

Monster Hunter style Horizon game would be absolutely incredible.

Imagine thinking GG could deliver on a MH-like. Between their poor melee combat and super busy/noisy art direction, it'd be a nightmare.

I think they're going to do their own thing, divorced from MH comparisons — and they should! Focus on your strengths. Monster Hunter is untouchable with its incredibly satisfying gameplay loop and impactful, precision-based melee combat. It's so fine-tuned it's disgusting.

Interesting....So both the online co-op project and the MMO (external) project are real. Weird that both are happening at the same time.
Also, not sure how I feel about them going for a stylized look. I don't see why that was necessary when the realistic visuals are clearly a selling point for the franchise.
NCSoft also make mobile game so it could also be for a mobile adaptation of Horizon Online on mobile. We know that Sony want also to make a big push on smartphone.
