There shouldn't really be the option to mistakenly by the wrong DLC in the first place. This is the bare minimum acceptable thing to do in the situation.
The original tweets from Nintendo Japan never mentioned not giving refunds. The source for the story, nintendosoup, mistranslated/lied for clicks.
There shouldn't even be two versions of the expansion pass you can buy. There should be one pass that automatically detects which version of the game you have and distributes the version-exclusive content accordingly.
Good thing Nintendo is doing this.
I do think it's ridiculous that they split the dlc for Sword and Shield into two different versions, versus having one expansion that works regardless of which version of Pokémon you bought.
It just screams greed.
Outside of exclusive Pokémon, is the expansion pass for Sword the same as Shield? They're both getting isle of armor and the second right?

The other thread was made based on the incorrect assertion that Nintendo said they would not offer refunds. When in reality Nintendo never said this. And are now explicitly saying they will do refunds/transfers.

I am curious if you can just make DLC work on two different softwares. As in does that work easily on a technical level? I don't know. No other franchise (I think lol) to reference. Not defending it, just curious about that aspect from a technical standpoint.

Who was defeneding them? Entire thread was calling them out for it before it was found out the source lied about no refunds since they mistranslated it for clicks.
You'd have to pony up $60 instead of just $30 to access the DLC in both situations. Pretty shitty if you ask me, but oh well, the first page in this thread is quite something too, but hey, at least this is a happy ending in some way!
There was a lot of victim blaming and back n forth about how easy it is to not buy wrong DLC and why its not Nintendo's fault that you bought the wrong DLC.
Good on them, I can see how that's an easy mistake for anyone to make and issuing refunds for that is the right thing to do.
There should have been better presentation on which version is which to help avoid the mistakes in the first place and there should be better refund/licensing systems in place, but at least they'll work with customers on the issue.
