I know, but it makes my wait for an Index restock even harder.
They weren't 'full fledged horror games' even if they had horror elements (or full levels in HL2).
Sounds rad they leaned into it. Smart move with VR.

Meeting expectations for a new HL game 13 years after the previous one is quite a feat.

Ah, okay, that makes more sense. There was a part of me like, "Why wouldn't they be able to make a new Half-Life...?"
Personally glad it's a bit shorter than some were expecting. Not sure I could handle 15-20 hours of VR headcrabs.
The game is amazing, although it's not anything revolutionary or genre-defining in my opinion. It's an amazing, great linear shooter.
You can feel the big budget. Shooting feels great. Headcrabs are fucking scary. Although VR is still not superbly perfect. For example, grabbing things feels clunky sometimes - but I'm playing on Oculus, so it's probably better on Index. Some things aren't interacting like you would thought they should - you can't break a bottle if you hold it and hit it with your pistol. Small details like that. But there are other small details that work great so it's all okay.
Great experience. Must have for VR users, but I bet everyone already has it :D

One of the underrated elements of VR gameplay is the physical comedy it enables. The gameplay clip 2 minutes into the review is great.
