Why was the game released and left in the state it was?

There is a detailed explanation linked above on why the game went unpatched for so long and why it has the problems it did in the first place by Frank O'Connor that I recommend reading. The long and short of it is that, after resolving issues not caught in testing the game, the MCC got to a state where matchmaking worked for a significant percentage of users and changing that had the risk of breaking things for everyone as they were tied to how XBL was structured (different from the online used in the original games).

Is there a PC version of the game?
Yes. The game will be released on PC piecemeal starting with Halo Reach at the end of 2019 and the rest of the titles (in their original release order) coming in 2020.

PC pricing?
Halo Reach, CE, 2, 3 and 4 will be $10 each and Halo 3: ODST will be $5. You can get a bundle of the games for $40 USD.

What platforms will the game release on PC?
Steam and the Windows Store.

Do I need Windows 10 to play the game on Steam?
Windows 7 is supported with the Steam release.

Does Steam and Windows 10 version share a population?
Yes, and you will need to sign into an Xbox Live account on the Steam version.

Crossplay with console?
Being considered but it's not an option at launch.

I bought the game digitally on Xbox One, do I get it for free on the Windows 10 store?
No. They are separate purchases.

Are save data and custom maps/settings shared with the PC and XB1 versions?
Yes. All stats, achievements, Forged maps, and game variants will be shared between all of the games within MCC. The only thing that will not carry over is mid-mission saves.

Split Screen on PC?
No, so far that's console only.

PC specific features?
It will vary from title to title within the collection but for Halo Reach the following is confirmed:
4k UHD
"At least" 60 FPS
Mouse and keyboard support
ultrawide support
adaptive sync support
FOV customization

Will any of those features work their way back to the console release?
343i has mentioned that some things like the FOV customization could come back to the console release but that would come after the PC collection is fully released (if ever).

Is Halo: Reach included in MCC on console?
Not in the base product but it is available as DLC you can play as a part of a Game Pass subscription or purchase separately.

Is Firefight for Halo 3: ODST?
No, but 343 has acknowledged fan demand for the feature to return.

Dedicated Servers?
Yes.

Have the loading screens been changed from the ones originally featured in the MCC?
No. The loading screens featured in the MCC are the same as the ones at the launch of the game.

What happens to the test program now?
The test program will be used in the future to test upcoming changes to the MCC, but the actual test application will remain at parity with MCC proper. Feel free to delete it.

Future tests will be delivered as such...
Going forward, there will be additional updates that will require additional community testing via public flights. This will be administered somewhat differently – anyone who is an existing MCC Insider and/or owns a digital copy of MCC and/or has an active Xbox Game Pass subscription will have access to the "Public Test Realm" and be able to play and provide feedback on future in-progress updates.

Do I get anything for having been in the test program?
Yes, you get this upcoming emblem (WIP).

Are the missing visuals from the classic version of Halo:CEA now displayed?
No, but it's something 343i has mentioned as a potential future task.

How does ranking work now with matchmaking?
With this patch, Ranked Matchmaking will now match players based on a +/-10 rank threshold - so a level 10 player will match with/against players down to rank 1 or up to rank 20. Additionally, Party matching has been added to help ensure a more fair playing field by matching pre-made teams against pre-made teams. The 343 development team will be monitoring these systems closely and as always, feedback is welcomed.

What happens to my previous ranks in MCC?
All previous rankings for the game have been reset as of this update.

Gamepass?
Yes, as of September 1st, 2019 the Master Chief Collection will be added Gamepass for Xbox One and the games will be added to Game Pass on PC as they release.

What are the confirmed upcoming features?
Confirmed features coming to the MCC include a customs browser and additional "UI & UX updates".

I'm a first time Halo player, what order do I play the games in?
The list of the games in the Master Chief Collection is both the order of release and the chronological order in terms of timeline. Go with this order and if you want to include Reach (which is available with XB1 backwards compatibility outside of the collection) slot that in before Halo 4 as Reach, despite being a prequel to the series, is much more impactful after having played the original Halo trilogy.

I just bought the game but Halo 3: ODST is missing. Why can't I access it?
Halo 3: ODST was given out as an initial make-good on the pour launch state of TMCC for those who came to the collection afterwards the game is a $5 DLC purchase.

I own the disc of TMCC, do I need to redownload the whole game now?
Yes. Just pop your disc in or select the MCC icon on your dashboard to be prompted to get the update.

How do I use the intelligent delivery system?
Launch the MCC, go into options once the game is "Ready to Start" and you can then choose which titles to prioritize the download of or which ones to exclude.

What are the final sizes of each game?
Install customization available after about 2.3GB downloaded

Halo 1: 3.5GB
Halo 2: 44.1GB

How do I use the new offline LAN feature?
Go into the MCC settings, tab over to 'NETWORK' and change the displayed option to 'LAN'. Now the roster will be populated with users on the same network as your console.

With the multi-disc install option now available to Xbox One games is there an upcoming reprint of TMCC, like Gears 4 before it, that will feature an install disc rather than needing to download the game?
Nothing announced as of now, but one can hope!

God I really miss the Halo games. The only reason I miss my Xbox to be honest. Glad they finally have been fixing it for folks though. Enjoy it folks.

Can anyone tell me if the performance is better on XB1S (splitscreen)? MP or SP

On Halo 2A Multiplayer specially, the performance was awful on XB1S, hopefully it's better now.

Awesome! I played a fair bit of MCC back in May for my bud's bachelor party. It was as fun as ever but it definitely didn't look as "clean" as I'm used to with other games on my One X now.

Can't wait to fire this up tonight! It'll also be a great showcase for my 4K TV when I finally get one. Thank you 343!

Hyppppe time to dust off the xbox. How big is this patch?

Shame only split-screen Halo 2 got a FOV tweak. I'm guessing we'll be seeing idle player 2s/guests like we did in Halo 3 because players wanted that sweet real estate.

For me 73GB - you seemingly have to redownload pretty much the entire game.

KNOWN ISSUES
The team is aware of and actively working on/investigating the following issues for future MCC updates:

  • Campaign and playlist progress counters may read as 0s across the board on initial launch
  • Intelligent Delivery prioritization can be lost if console enters Connected Standby during install
  • Halo 4 Forge objects exposed to the global light source may appear incorrectly
  • Some career stats do not update until the title is relaunched
  • Corrupted installation can occur through Intelligent Delivery installation
  • Aim sensitivity feels faster in update compared to previous MCC retail
  • Players idling in match are not always automatically removed from the game
  • Elites are not dual wielding in various Campaign missions
  • Players with high ping times may be unable to find a game
  • Objects will pop-in during the Halo 4 Campaign
  • Players can go out-of-sync when moving from mission to mission in Halo 2 co-op Campaign when there is an original Xbox One hosting and an Xbox One X client
  • Players may need to reacquire previously collected ODST audio logs before receiving Achievements related to them
