Harada makes me hate Tekken 7

Im not attacking Harada or dev team as people, they are hard workers who I respect but what I have issue with is their decisions that makes wonderful game fall apart and frustrating.

I borrowed my fiends PS4 that had Tekken 7, I play quite a lot of Tekken 6 offline and causally online so bad netcode did not bother me much cuz I was just killing time and had little perspective.

Tekken 7 has amazing gameplay that create a dance between 2 people which I love. Before playing I always liked watching the professional level matches.

I put pretty good chunk of hours into Tekken 7, got to Seriyu rank with Dragunov and Mighty ruler with Anna. I still like the game and from to time get pretty good fighters who even after beating me to a pulp send GGs message. The cast of characters is pretty big and we have some really interesting guest fighters.

But ... its amazing how a lot of things around gamepaly makes Tekken 7 really an impressive frustrating experience.

Game has HORRIBLE loading times

I know that Console and PC versions are port of Arcades, its a thing Namco was doing for a while but everybody was telling them with T6 and TT2 already. How much its annoying to wait legit 2 to 4 minutes on loading screen after both players agreed for a rematch. I legit have enough time to go toilet, do my business, wash hands, come back without hurry and still return before character into starts. At first I thought that I just need to have laptop on for something to check while match loads but the more I did it the less I cared for the fight itself.

SFV and some others have similar issue but Tekken 7 being a 3rd game in the series with exact problem makes it THE worse in my opinion, all features that should help me to be better player like punishment training and replay coaching became huge waste of time. Its because downright exhausting especially since how much game is unstable.

The netcode of the game is not great, everybody knows that. Delay is somewhat bearable to me. However the biggest issues are how many times game is either crashing or losses connection. Like out of all games my friend has on PS4 Tekken 7 makes the most amount error messages and freezzes that I ever encountered on his console. Im not gonna lie I do feel like Im exaggerating but when a fighting game ... a game where only thing a person or 2 people can legit play is in the match, has nothing in between and gets error that prevents or abort the only gameplay that game offers, its close to level of bugs from Bethesda and Cyberpunk in my mind. I cant enjoy the game without these error popipng up at least once for 2-3 sessions.

Later I learned that PS4 is the worst version of the game, the stability and online is more on PC but it has a huge number of cheaters and bots fighters

What bugles my mind is how famous those cheaters are, a lot of players know them by username. Pro players have their name recorded to proof and viewed by thousands yet Namco doesnt do any protection or even ban then.

There is an excuse running around that Fighting games have low budget therefore Tekken Devs cant put enough resources on maintenance and new characters at the same time. The game sold 6 millions and played by thousands, whatever their budget was initially it sure must have been enough to cover fix of crucial systems. Game was successful enough for Namco to make Harada responsible for company's most expensive project yet. Such numbers means there is a responsibility.

Now Im not a dev so all this issues might be to late to solve because of how Tekken 7 was built initially, maybe devs cant do it with patches etc (EXCEPT hackers issue that can and should be taken care) I understand. I

So why do I say Harada makes me hate Tekken 7? Well because of this -

He can put Kiryu, Majima and Goku for all I care but it wont change the fact that decisions of keep selling an unstable arcade port, doing very little actions or nothing against chaters and especially avoiding to discuss real issues about netcode (Im talking his whole "its WIFI players" and "Tekken 7 is 3d that cant work with Rollback" shtick) makes his quirky persona ... makes Tekken 7 fell like a slap to the face and hard to keep enjoying. He doesnt do all decisions but he sure should have done better job at convincing people to do better decisions.

Im not gonna send him threats or harass on twitter just disappointed at what he sold, I still will play Tekken 7 just WAY less then I want.

Sorry for the rant.

EDIT : Sajam says it in short (Timestamped. 10:07)

Thanks to Rhaknar

EDIT 2 : Another thing I do not want to dwell to much is how most DLC characters are just BS and annoying to fight against. They have long move list with trcky mix ups but I cant practice against them till I pay.

Also BS Hitbox

i find it weird how any dev that says anything more than the scripted corporate responses get hated on era yet kamiya can literally call people maggots daily and he's so cool and quirky haha he was always such a kidder

i dont care for harada personally but just the fact that we have a fighting game where noctis, negan from walking dead, lucky chloe and a bear can beat each other is something we all should just appreciate

I dunno, I think Kamiya is an asshole too.

What sucks about the netcode situation is that Bamco is probably the last major holdout regarding rollback netcode.....& they make 3 of the fighting game big dogs (Tekken, Soul Calibur, & Smash).

Next gen consoles do a lot to mitigate the horrendous load times but they’re still longer than you’d want. Load times have been an issue with this series for some time now. I did have a weird moment recently when I played Tekken Tag 2 on my Series X for the first time and loading was all nearly instant. It was wild.

I don't think I've come across a bot or cheater ever in the PC version... I wouldn't say there are a huge amount. I know they exist, but it's not like it's rampant.

Its actually crazy how season 3 manage to kill a lot of what tekken 7 had achieve with season 2.
I think atm most tekken players are ready to move on to tekken 8. So hopefully they get the netcode right this time

He made the best fighting game of the generation and wears sunglasses all the time (I don't think I've ever seen his eyes) so I have nothing but respect for the man

I shit you not, OP. I thought about making this topic today. I was just thinking today how I put under an hour into Tekken 7 through out the years. Under an hour... for a series I love to death. Every tekken since tekken 2 has held a big place in my heart. It all gets melted away whenever I see a Harada quote talking up his "rollback" netcode. The shit ain't cute, the shit ain't funny, and the shit doesn't make me think he's some sort of badass.

Your product is people playing the game with each other and you want to act all high and mighty when those people ask to be able to play each other in a better online environment? Fuck this dude. Seriously.

And don't even get me started on Tekken 7 looking like a blurry mess because they can't be assed to do high resolutions.

Game has HORRIBLE loading times

It's funny because sometimes I would play Tekken 3 instead SFA2 or KOF 96 because T3 loadings are insanely fast on PS1.

Fighting games in PS4 gen are all terrible in this regard (except Guilty Gear Xrd maybe?), I think both Capcom and Namco doesn't know how to optimize UE4 (or didn't care about it) for fighting games. My biggest rant is that T7 is atroucious even on PC on a SSD.

Ever since "whoa customizations and win tallies" took over, I started to become more and more disinterested. Art and aesthetics were a big draw for me, otherwise that T2 intro and visuals would have never attracted me.

Now it's the same art old enough to drive, maybe vote, with silly clown shit made of shit textures and clipping issues on 4k screens and losses tallied in single player whenever my kids want to play.

Get that fucking shit outta here ffs.

Probably the worst load times of any console fighter this generation. T7 is a game you should play PC only without a doubt. I regret not having a PC that can run the game right now. I'm probably going to to move to PC on most of the fighters I play next gen just for the fact that even with an HDD on PC is still faster than the last gen consoles by a good bit.

Letting your 2 year old arcade game dictate how your console ports should perform is a hot mess and should not be repeated.

People have had enough and the rest of the FGC devs are evolving while namco is the holdout
If they don't fix their shit they will lose much support

Load times were such a bummer, as were the character endings.

Oh and the customization was somehow worse than Tekken 5 almost a decade prior.

Oh and the first season pass included dlc for items that were in the arcade version but splintered out for the premium pass.

Haven’t really played much of the game since launch. The game itself is fun, but a lot of little things really rubbed me wrong on T7. Not sure if it’s improved now tho.

Load times were bad. I will say that I played on PC for a good while and the online play wasn't really that bad. Probably because most PC players are hardwired. That's my guess anyway.

Tekken Tag 2 was great but in terms of mainline games the last time I was happy with a Tekken game was 5. I wish rage modes and super attacks weren't a thing :/

tekken 7 still being 720p on the xbox one will forever make me not buy a tekken at launch again

This was his response to a dev who worked on Killer Instinct (game with god tier netcode) and creator of Rivals of Aether (a platform fighter designed from the beginning to be competitively minded which unfortunately doesn't have rollback) asking what he meant by his cryptic "Tekken is 3" statement.

Harada can be fun, but when he misses damn does he miss hard.

Tekken players dont seem to give a shit. none of this stuff is new and you can still find an army of fanboys like lol harada epic and lol actually is rollback standing up to defend him whenever you say t7 is wack. its a good game with so much stupid shitty business decisions making it feel like you're being robbed

Im more of a competitive player but right there with you OP. It sucks the best FG of this gen is marred by this sort of BS.

We pray for T8. Hopefully they are paying attention to other FGs and implementing those ideas in the next iteration.

Its not just netcode. Obviously its main issue but as a whole T7 is just bad product.

Even If T8 have rollback, which will be a big step but still an aracde port and horrible loading times, that just will look so awful in the picture of how Arcys delayed GG strive because of lobbies.

...I know its not just netcode. I agree about the loading times. Again, I hope they are paying attention and will work to fix most of this stuff for T8.

I can see why he might not be willing to discuss this in depth with you.
A bit cryptic so sorry if I perceive this as sarcasm

The reason while I was tagging NRS, Santa monica Arcsy is because of unfortunate but common thing in Japanese business " mostly listen to successful and big people only" So decide to show how Rollback is not an indi or netcode for poor I guess

Ayup. I bought Tekken 6 and Tag 2 at launch, but Harada's increasingly tiresome attitude and the more regressive aspects of the game made me put off buying Tekken 7 until last summer. Played and enjoyed it for a while. Tekken has had fantastic core gameplay for a long time, and 7 is no different. But the generally poor user experience keeps me second guessing myself whenever I get the itch to play these days. And honestly, there's almost nothing about it that I like more than the previous two entries. It's just the only Tekken we've got on PS4/PS5.

It'll go away in time I think, I feel like this will go the same way as it did with Ono in SF. I hated that goofy, terrible decision maker for all of SFIV and beginning of V, eventually he left and I see the public opinion of him go down a lot.

Need itagaki to come back and dunk on harada like the old days. With no one to keep him in line Harada is getting too big for his britches.

DOA2U was a better online experience than t7

Michael Murray too. Atleast Harada can be funny. But Tekken is held back by so many weird choices.

Edit: and what’s with them making the new dlc characters so good but so easy to use? I’m expecting the Polish character to be just as bad as Leroy and Fahk

Season 4 is definitely in a pretty horrible state. The netcode is better than it used to be, so at least its tolerable, but its still garbage compared to actual rollback netcode. DLC characters and power creep just make the game such a grind to play at a high level right now, its absolutely baffling how Leroy and Fahk were designed and how much a problem Akuma and Geese still are. The only thing saving us from all the Akumas the last year has been execution and shitty netcode lmfao.

Namco definitely had zero idea what the hell they were doing with anti-cheat, ranked modes, or single player content. The fact you can so easily save scum your rank because its saved offline is just hilarious. Its like no one on the dev team has ever played an online game before.

Fingers crossed Tekken 8 is around the corner and Namco has learned from all this, but I'm not confident. I still don't believe Harada actually knows what rollback netcode actually is.

nintendo is such a dinosaur when it comes to online that i don't ever see them mandating rollback for any future smash games either.

Any chance of a current gen upgrade? (I assume paid)

4k, faster loading, maybe cross-play… would be very nice.

Single player content sucks shit. Story was horrible and the character endings may as well not be there. Where is my almost endless plays of arcade?
