Has the reception to Endgame proven TLJ critics right?

What I mean is that giving fans what they want and playing it safe is actually more beneficial to the movie? Not I'm not a hater of TLJ, but people seem to be far happier with Endgame than they were with TLJ.

Tell me TLJ critics, do you feel vindicated? Will TLJ defenders concede ground that maybe they were wrong?

MARK SPOILERS YOU CRETINS

If I had the infinity stones I’d create a reality where there were no more TLJ threads.

...can we go just one week without starting another fucking TLJ argument? It's fucking tiring. Stop turning every movie topic into an excuse to go off about how much you hate that movie.

Seems like talking about The Last Jedi is just about as inevitable as Thanos.

lmao. this

the hate TLJ gets is fucking annoying. We get it people, the movie didn't suck luke's/the skywalkers dick enough to your liking... no need to label it as garbage because of it

This is a meta-commentary on the abundance of threads for each franchise, right?

The Letter J was an independant short film that has nothing to do with Avengers:Endgame so this makes no sense

I see nothing in common with either of these movies other than the inclusion of a more diverse casting, and the same folks complaining about that in TLJ seem to be the same ones complaining now. So no.

I do think there's truth behind what the OP is getting at. I.e. that "safe" isn't necessarily synonymous with "poor quality," that often times fans really do know what they want despite the fact that the contrary is often believed to be true, and that subversion of expectations for the sake of subverting expectations probably isn't good.

That being said I don't really think Endgame proved anything that hasn't been proven many times over.

It certainly proves something about TLJ critics.

See you in two weeks. Does Detective Pikachu prove the TLJ critics right?

I wouldn't really call a 3 hour movie with time travel and killing fan favorite characters safe

Not everything has to be about The Last Jedi. I’m so over nerds obsession with that movie. Move on, let it go.

What do you think Endgame could have done to be less “safe”? Kill more heroes? Would that have materially affected the story?

Wouldn't Infinity War be more comparable to The Last Jedi, being the somber, dark second act that subverts expectations and throws twists at you?

No, because Star Wars fanservice is weak shit even when it's been done.

Endgame is how you do it. It takes things that happened in prior movies, wraps them with character moments and then moves past it by the end of the movie.

Endgame had "fanservice" after 20 movies. Star Wars can't create a new trilogy without tethering it to the older ones by the hip. It's fanservice is weak and unearned.

I'm being real though
I mean, sure but you mean honestly doesn't mean that this isn't a super flimsy premise for a thread. Crowd pleasers are, by their own nature, crowd pleasers. TLJ wasn't trying to just be a crowd pleaser that tried to make everything as badass as possible, which is why it's so good. Endgame tried to please the crowd as much as possible and make everything badass, which is why it's so good.

Two different type of films, the people who wanted TLJ to be like Endgame probably like Endgame because it's the type of movie they wanted. It's also, obviously, the type of film that more people will like.
