Sucks getting boosts in boxes and watching them go to waste because they expire even when you're not playing.
I don't know if this works anymore, but when I got a stimpack in a box and wasn't going to make much use of it, I'd force close the game and wait to accept the loot box when I knew I was going to play for a while. After you close the game you can go back and play without accepting the box.

IIRC this should still work.

So... everyone enjoying the new match maker? I know I am. Our single guaranteed range assassin was Nova against a dual healer team. Also, I'm being recommended characters that are needed for the match maker, but the queue times are somehow twice as long as just playing a random assassin?

Yeah lots of kinks to work out...

Queues are still long, even though I'm only picking heroes with the extra XP. Also, at one point 90% of the heroes were recommended by the system. I'd wait a couple days for things to settle, since the matchmaker is probably having trouble finding matches with the new requirements, so people need to realize that things have changed.

ever get to the point you just random(auto-select) in QM? even if im not REALLY good with a hero i just want variety in each game.
It's fun in practice but unless they fixed it the random defaults to a pretty small subset of heroes. Like you'll get Rexxar a lot, for example, if a tank is needed instead of a real tank. This was a bit back though so maybe they've spruced it up a bit.

Haven't done random enough on this latest patch, but everything up to this point made queueing for support awful for me because it always defaulted to Tassadar if there was an Abathur in queue for the other team.

I've heard plenty of stories of the new QM matchmaker failing big time, but I can't say I've run into any issues. All of my games have had 1 tank, 1 healer, and rest filler of assasins/specialists/bruisers. Queue times also have been pretty short, but I mostly only play with groups of 2-4, so maybe those are quicker.

In terms of composition it's a lot better than it was. Usually the most common set up we see online is 3 assassins (of various types), 1 tank and 1 healer. That's enough to make for playable matches.

The problem is the queue times in larger groups. 300 seconds seems to be the norm, sometimes it's very quick and sometimes it needs to go into expanded search to get a match. It's better than it was though so I think they are ironing things out.

Blizzard mixing up their holiday events with themes that don't appeal to me as much has actually been a real relief, given that I usually have to juggle it with overwatch and destiny.

Oh no, if I don't grind all holiday I'll miss out on the Annoying Child announcer.

It does actually look like a cool event, but there are fewer must-haves. Much like the halloween event I'll be trying to unlock stuff from last year.

It's cool that they're experimenting, mind. Nexomania was great.

I just want the plush Billie and a tint of the Stitches skin. The skins are good but they gave em to heroes who already have some good options (Dehaka), don't get played and also just got a new skin (Valeera), or have a ton of skins (Stitches).

Still no love for Ragnaros, Chen, Blaze, yadda yadda. And most of all, salty they teased Mephisto and Butcher skins and then didn't release those.

But the kid who does the voice is catbug! You have to turn off cloaken and alarak every once in awhile?

Also, I've been enjoying the new QM when I've had the chance to play it. It's like an odd version of Unranked where you get all the necessary roles... but sometimes there is 0 synergy. At least this way you don't have to sit through a draft and get disappointed by that last second troll pick?

I'm just happy they're still supporting the game at this point. More skins just means more annoyance when I don't get what I want out of lootboxes each event.

They really need to make the announcer setting global though. Attaching it to loadouts just isn't a use case I actually ever see missing.

Wow .. 200plus seconds waiting in QM.
Haha, that's not too awful compared to some of what we've seen. Our group typically ranges from 2-5 rotating members on the Discord. We've had near insta-queues with basically every number, 600 second queues a bunch with 3+, and a couple 20 minute queues with 5 when 5 mans were broken the first day or two.

Clearly they still have some kinks to iron out somewhere. The comps it finds are actually pretty decent but the estimated times and all that are totally out of wack.

But you have a Dehaka avatar everywhere! How come you don't want that new one for him? It looks cool.

I just don't play him that much anymore. And the skin is just kind of a plastic green looking version of what he already has IMO. It's not better than his mecha skins.

Devs actually responded to the Exp changes and said they were going to make balance changes based on user feedback.

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/heroes/t/upcoming-xp-changes/8794

Hello Heroes -
We wanted to take a moment to address some of the concerns from our community about the experience updates on PTR this week. As with all of our balance changes, the Heroes team spends months internally playtesting and iterating before bringing these changes to PTR for further feedback from our players. Now that PTR is live, our team has been hard at work monitoring the new 2019 experience updates and listening to feedback. Based on this feedback and data, the team is currently exploring making some revisions to the 2019 experience updates to include more incentives for taking Forts and Keeps. We are currently iterating on these changes internally and plan to release an update to the 2019 experience changes in next week’s patch. While we don’t have additional information to share about these changes just yet, know that we are listening and that your feedback is incredibly valuable.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to try out these changes on the PTR and provided feedback. Keep an eye out for more information next week.
For all the hate HotS gets, I still think they're one of the best Dev teams around right now, so glad they're listening to the community and doing something. Take note rest of Blizzard.

So Blizz wants the matches to last longer or shorter?

Recents matches are taking more time around 22-25 mins to finish unless you snowball them and end the match in 10 mins

That's the issue I think. Seems like at least 50% of my games are either my team or the other team CRUSHING and winning with almost no resistance because of huge level difference.

blizzard wants games to last about 20 minutes and most of their changes are always build to faciliate that. Even w/ the planned changes they ramped up passive XP gain by like 15% to make it so games will end around or shortly after hitting 20.

these changes supposedly are to reduce the snowballing that taking structures early can create. It's not difficult to convert an experience lead into a dominated game and playing from behind is overall pretty terrible since you have to find a very specific window to turn the game or more commonly in pleb play have to wait for the other team to fuck up majorly.

overall blizz has been on a crusade to reduce the value of split pushing in this game, which had its own detriment (solo lane becoming ResidentSleeper primarily) but for the majority of the playerbase I'd argue has been a positive change. While there's plenty of people that enjoy highly tactical macro play I'd wager a majority of the players just want to brawl, they don't want to babysit a specialist during an objective phase so that you don't lose a fort and subesequently a keep.

All this said the negativity of professional players can't be ignored and the changes as they are sound truly awful for the game if they play out even the slightest bit how the pros see them. While the tactics of the highest play never fully make it to pleb play the simpler things among them eventually get there, baiting the jump from punishers over the walls on Infernal Shrines for instance, and afk in lane is a pretty simple tactic to take from competitive play.

I'm glad blizzard is listening but I don't expect them to bench these plans completely. Some form of it will make it to live.

The breaking point is my experience is when one team achieves Lv 10, the exp gap jumps far away like 2 or 3 levels since the other team will most likely be wiped trying to contest the map objetive and most of the times never recover

That shouldn't happen consistently at pretty average levels of play imo. The devs have added over time more and more indicators that fighting down talent tiers, particularly the 10 is a bad idea. You got the level bar on flames as well as the chat announcement for the level 10 and 20 tier.

I've observed giving up an objective to soak 10 and hopefully be able to recover to fight for the next objective all the way down to gold league personally.

Unfortunately it still happens all of the time, even at high levels of play

I don't know what the Dev team can do about the level 10 spike. It's a consequence of the Ultimate / Talent system that's already core to the gameplay. The problem is that powerspike effects everything in the game (objectives, camps, skirmishes, tower pushes), and there's only one way to counter it; "soak until 10." If that 10 powerspike comes at just the right time, it can snowball into multiple tower + keep kills, and from there the entire game.

This is what I always come back to. While Blizzard has done some things that make you scratch your head with HOTS (like most any dev does with these living online games from time to time), they have almost always been willing to iterate or walk back changes if the community is against them. Sometimes even to the game's own detriment, but still, no one can say they don't listen IMO.

Not to quote you again, but since we seem to be in agreement on a few things I'll add that the biggest two offenders I see where a 10 advantage snowballs out of control quickly are Cursed Hollow and Sky Temple. If you lose those first two tributes and are somehow getting outsoaked (or have several deaths), you generally can't contest the third trib and that's a guaranteed Curse and a ton of exp heading their way most likely.

Sky Temple is it's own bag of worms. It's the map with the least viable path to a comeback in my experience. Rarely do I see them there, in my games or in pro games. I'd throw Braxis in as the #2 in that regard.

I know I just ended up letting the other team just win when our defense would just make the game longer vs their 3 lvl lead ... For example 2 forts are still alive and core is at 60 percent while we always get wiped but the opposing team doesn't just end it ... Like why waste more time and end it in a couple minutes.

Eh, I stop healing if that happens, my team yells at me but there is no point of making a 18 min match into a 25 min lost

Funny thing , I find the second curse phase more devastating than the first which usually happens when the first curse team gets cooky and let the enemy team get it and lose 70% of their side

just ded gaem now. Last time I played was when dva was released. The game just never had any lasting appeal. It got pretty boring but I had fun with it and the community seemed really nice, well, much nicer than other mobas at least. F

I had a lot of fun when it first came out, sad to see that it didn't hit the sales people probably expected but chasing trends doesn't always mean everything is a big hit.

If the game was selling enough stuff it likely would go on but we all know that unless your selling a ton it's not enough to continue because it's considered a failure.

Hots is....was my ideal toxic less moba game after being stressed the fuck off of LoL, this news truly breaks my heart, I love this game, I love the heroes interactions from multiple games I LOVE from Blizzard games , even more after HOTS team were moving into a more cohesive lore with Lord Raven, blizzard do this move to out the game on limbo, shame Blizz have to sacrifice HOTS talented team (4 heroes per year, amazing events) for shitty mobile games or moving them to OW

Played this game pretty heavily from closed beta until around two years after launch. Really enjoyed it, but eventually stopped playing about 1.5 years ago. Sad to see it winding down, thought it was doing well. There'll be new heroes maps and skins, but it definitely feels like it's going to be much less than it used to be.

Sad news, HotS was my most played game of 2015-2017 and I had a great time for most of it! Decking out my favorite hero in a sweet custom get-up and kicking ass with my team in quick play always put a smile on my face.

After a few years of almost daily play I started having burnout - think it was around when Blaze released. One curious problem that I personally had with the direction of the game was the steady churning out of new heroes and I simply got tired of learning each one and adjusting to constant hero changes. It didn't help that new heroes like Whitemane, Yrel or Deckard just didn't call out to me at all. If things slow down a bit from a development point of view, this might be a blessing in disguise for me. Cancellation of the official tournaments really stings.
