I've not played HOTS for a long time now. I still enjoy the gameplay, but the reward system is just too glacially slow for me, it seems so hard to earn cosmetics in the game unless you spring for a stimpack with money, only then does the progression system feel right.

I might as well uninstall it I suppose.

The game died for me when I purged all of blizzard's games from my system. Honestly, I was spending way too much time on it before anyways. I'm sure in a decade or so someone will feel super nostalgic and rebuild the client and custom servers away from Acti-Blizz and I might jump in then. Maybe we'll get towers with ammo again, that was fun.

I'm not finding a great experience in QM. Always seems to be 4-5 man groups against full randos on my team. They may have removed the indicators, but when they all have the same icon or matching names with perfectly coordinated heroes and combos it's pretty obvious.

And league is still fun... But not waiting 10 minutes between matches to get into one fun.

Man theres like 14 maps, how you bored of 14 maps in a moba lol
Nah, there seriously could be hundreds of maps. You leave the 14 for ladder and "pro" play and then you let the community go wild.

Over least thousands of hours since closed alpha, the small map pool size is definitely one of the reasons I get burned out again quick each time I come back.

After a three year hiatus, I reinstalled HOTS and have been playing it almost daily for a month or two. QM takes too long to get groups for and leavers seem rampant, but ARAM has been fun. That wasn't even an officially supported feature when I quit!

Ya, seems kind of silly to continue to try and monetize a game you aren't really supporting much. Could really revitalize the playerbase if they ditched the shitty pay-for-heroes system

I haven't played this game since the first pre season. Is this game noob friendly or will I be playing against top level smurfs with low level accounts?

I tend to play every couple of days to clear out the quests. Can't comment on regular ranked/unranked play, but playing against max difficulty AI with a team of random people has been a good time. No need to worry about people raging or being try-hard. It always seems to be a mix of high level and low level people that I get matched with, too.

Heroes of the Storm OT Discord:

Ask in thread for an invite. Most of the discussion and activity happens there.

Basic Overview:

Developer: Blizzard Entertainment Team 1 (The RTS Team)
Publisher: Activision Blizzard
Genre: MOBA/ARTS
Release Date: June 2nd, 2015
Platforms: PC/Mac
Price: Free 2 Play
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaxjC8V5j6M
Screenshots: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/media/

Update Schedule:

-Heroes: One every 4-8 weeks.
-Reworks: One or two every 4-8 weeks.
-Battlegrounds: One every ~6+ months.
-Balance Patches: Once a month at minimum.

Gameplay Modes:

-Play Against AI: Play against five enemy AIs, with a choice of either playing with four AI teammates or four actual players. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Quick Match: Five players vs five players. You select your hero before searching for a match. Heroes are unique per team. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Hero League: Five players vs five players. You find out what map you're playing on, and then select heroes in a draft format. All ten heroes must be unique. Unlocked at Level 30.
-Team League: Pre-made five vs five teams only. Otherwise works like Hero League. Unlocked at Level 40.
-Unranked: Five players vs five players. Any combination of team sizes is fine. Uses drafting.
-Brawl: A mode that can contain just about anything. Lasts one week.

Gameplay Basics:

-While similar to a MOBA, containing multiple lanes, infinitely spawning units, and an objective to destroy the enemy base, there are several key differences.
-One of the biggest differences is that each map has an objective that does something like spawning a super unit for your side or making the enemy units/towers not attack for a limited period of time.
-Another is that the four archetypes (Warrior, Assassin, Support, Specialist) are balanced like an MMO (Tank, Damage Dealer, Healer, Utility) instead of regular MOBA archetypes. There is no concepts such as a carry, so don't try to fight three people at once and expect to win.
-Your entire team gains levels at the same rate, so who gets kills or a destroys a building doesn't matter. Denying also doesn't exist.
-There is no gold or items. Instead, every three levels you can select from between two to five talents that can majorly modify your abilities, character, or give you new abilities.
-The matches are built to last approximately 15-25 minutes, which is a fair bit shorter than most MOBAs.
-If you're confused about anything, play through the tutorials, which go into everything in depth and give you gold for completing them. This is especially true for players new to the genre who read what I wrote and it made no sense.
-Blizzard rates the following heroes as easy to use for newcomers: Azmodan, Kael'thas, Li Li, Malfurion, Raynor, Sylvanas, Uther, Valla
-Specific hero guides can be found here: http://www.heroesfire.com/
-If you want to track your stats in more detail, go here: https://www.hotslogs.com/Default

Business Model:

-There is a selection of fourteen free heroes per week.
-You earn gold by leveling up and completing daily quests, which can be used to buy heroes and make them continually available. Gold is also used to re-roll loot boxes, which are earned by leveling.
-Loot boxes are awarded for every time you level up a hero and contain four random items ranging from common to legendary. Certain level thresholds provide higher quality loot boxes. Loot boxes may contain heroes, skins, mounts, banners, sprays, announcers, voice lines, emojis, portraits, and stimpacks.
-You can also buy heroes, skins, mounts, loot boxes, and stimpacks (account - not game - experience/gold rate increasers) from the shop with gems which are purchased with real money. Gems are also earned sporadically during the game.
-Event loot boxes are all of Rare quality and guarantee an item from that event inside the box.
-There is no system akin to LoL runes. You also can't buy anything that helps you during the actual game.
-There are weekly sales where seven skins, two heroes, and two mounts are put on sale. Their gem price is lowered, however their shard price remains the same.

Heeeyyyyy

Been thinking about this game and you folks lately. It and you all really helped distract me after long nights staying with my Dad in the hospital.

I don't post here anymore, but figured I'd go out on a limb and bump this.

I still play on occasion, but only with my close friends... The remaining player base is so toxic it's crazy.

Yo is that a necrobump I see? It was a fun time while it lasted. RIP HGC. RIP blizzard. I've been playing a little wild rift but mostly not playing too much of anything these days.

It's a good game, blizzard just screwed everything else up, so it never really had a chance.

Also they released Valeera, that didn't help.

They are still doing balance work on it, but I can't imagine it's pulling in much money with so little new content

Yikes, like worse than a year or two ago?

I still play this game nearly every day with my friends. Long live hots

Yeah, I miss it, good ol days indeed. Maybe I'll indulge in a Kerrigan or Abathur game one day, though I assume Abathur is probably a tank and Kerrigan is a mage now

Best way to stay sane in ranked is to turn off in-game chat. Its a toxic hellscape most of the time otherwise. The only people still playing that mode in HOTS in 2021 are the super dedicated, and when you make a mistake you will hear all about it.

yo - they updated ARAM mode so that you can randomly get all the same hero for everyone e.g. 5 Tassadar vs 5 Tassadar. It's like a 5% chance to occur during the draft, but it's a blast. They also fixed ARAM so that each side will always have equal offerings based on role aka no longer will one side get a Bruiser like Ragnaros as the only "tank" option and the other team gets a real tank like Johanna.

ded gaem but it lives a little!

My friends and I were remembering when they used to do seasonal events, and release new characters and maps regularly. Wish they would start doing that again.
