From the VGC interview with Platinum Games:
Kamiya, here's the inevitable Bayonetta 3 question: You were recently quoted as saying you'd like to provide a public update on the game this year. Is that right?

Kamiya:
It's not really our position to say, but… it's January. We've got to have something come out, right? I guess it's safe to expect that something will come out. There's still a lot of the year left is what I'm saying.

By "update", do you mean something more substantial than another CGI logo?

Kamiya:
(Laughs) I understand it's driving the fans crazy! In light of that, my suggestion would be that maybe we should all reset and forget about Bayonetta 3. Then when something finally does happen, it will be a nice surprise, won't it?

Looks like we shouldn't expect the game any time soon.
Lock if old.

Sounds like the game was either announced way too early or it's had some real development issues.

Yeah, Kamiya said something not that long ago that implied Bayonetta 3 was a rather long way off. It's definitely not coming out this year.

Extend this logic to all game or other entertainment announcements and you are closer to living a happy life.

It's the correct mentality to have. It'll happen when it happens, and Astral Chain was clearly meant to be out before it. Until Nintendo are forced to put out another Metroid Prime 4 styled "we're sorry" video, I'm not worried.

My guess is the announcement teaser was shortly after they penned the deal and that the game only started full development sometime in 2018. Add in Covid and I'm not surprised that it's big coming out party still hasn't happened yet.

They might holding it off for Switch Pro? I don't know, it's so weird seeing them not have much to say about one of their headlining games.

He's probably just tired of saying "development is going well" over and over since saying anything more is likely entirely up to Nintendo.

This game was announced way to early.
Wonder if they were pressured into it by Nintendo or higher ups.
That or they are having significant development issues.

Astral chain was announced and released within 4 months.
We still dont know anything about Babylon's Fall, Bayo 3 or their recent announced project GG

Could also be maybe they are stretching themselves out too thin. I never thought of Platinum as a big company, unless someone can prove me otherwise.

I'm guessing we'll two games from Platinum before Bayo 3 even gets a trailer. Astral Chain 2 should be one of them.

I'm ready for the next round of AAA Nintendo titles on the Switch.

Breadth of the Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 were supposed to be their next big hitters… I really hoped we'd get like 1 more round of huge games before the Super Switch, but it doesn't sound like we're going to.

Gotta love when companies throw a logo out there to have something, anything.

Like TES6, they needed something positive so they made a logo before anyone scribbled the first design draft for that thing.

Kamiya can't say anything if Nintendo doesn't want to and he's sick of y'all asking.😂

MP4 being released before 2023 would be pretty shocking tbh.

I still think that Nintendo will shadowdrop a trailer of Bayo 3 with a 2 month release date. I know that Nintendo fans and people make Bayonetta bigger than she is, but she is way more smaller than a Kirby game in terms of sales.

Maybe don't announce it years before it's ready then? Not really the fans fault

Who wants to be on if we see Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 gameplay first?

I still got my money on Bayonetta.

I'm guessing Breadth of the Wild 2 will be the Super Switch launch title… then who know what else we'll get after that. Odyssey 2 when? Metroid is years out. Maybe something new/original IP that has the same scale as a Metroid, Mario or Zelda game? Mario Kart 9? Pikmin 4?

Their library of Wii U games is drying up so we need to start to see something new/original and higher frequency of releases.

I remember the last three games I pre-ordered with my Best Buy GCU, years back, were Fire Emblem Switch, Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3. Not the best bets I've made.

People are going to put more (false) meaning into this than necessary. All this means is, "Leave me alone, I can't say anything".
