GOAT show.I've made it two seasons deep into the Sopranos and man, I'm literally keeping a mini log of notes as I watch each episode. It makes me put on my writers cap each time I watch it, thinking about why the scene starts/ends at a certain point, what the dialogue reveals, and so on.
It's also made me obsessed with the song 'I saved the world today'. It doesn't even necessarily evoke the show, it's just such a specific schmood. Wouldn't be out of place in Lindeof's Watchmen now that I think about it 🤔
The greatest thing ever made. I'd highly recommend The Sopranos Sessions by Matt Zoller Seitz and Alan Sepinwall if you're looking to do some critical reading on the show.I've made it two seasons deep into the Sopranos and man, I'm literally keeping a mini log of notes as I watch each episode. Rofl, I was about to say the same thing. Wat's the point in paying for a listening session for an album that's been officially out for like a year lol
I tried starting a second watch a year or so ago, but just couldn't power through the awkwardness of the first few seasons again :(I've made it two seasons deep into the Sopranos and man, I'm literally keeping a mini log of notes as I watch each episode. I hate the term overrated.. but Soprano's is overrated..
I'll give it credit for being part of the evolution of Television, but it's not a great show.
I like the show; and I get that it sort of created the "anti-hero" genre.. but.. Tony fails at being a good anti-hero to me. He's a completely unlikable slob sociopath who barely even cares about his own family. It's just endlessly him being a total piece of shit who for whatever reason hot women are attracted to. He's not really funny or witty or even really all that good at projecting "power" like other similar characters in other media (ugly mob guy who gets hot chicks is hardly uncommon in media, but Tony is the least believable to me.) The "therapy / anxiety disorder" thing stays interesting for a while but gets pretty watered down by Season 2 or so.I think you used your Jesus toast powers and zapped yourself into the universe where this is true because it certainly isn't this one

I like some of the side characters more; find Christopher / Adriana more interesting in some ways.. and even some of Tony's girlfriend's.. but Tony just continued to bore me the entire series. He's not unlikable in an entertaining way like say, Walter White to me.. he's just gross.
And oof.. any time the show touches on race.. hasn't aged well lol
(and I fucking LOVE mob / gangster movies.. just don't think the show format really works as well, and the premise isn't anywhere near as deep as people seem to get out of it as Tony just isn't a complex character despite the therapy "hook")
He's just slightly more complex occasionally.. if "doesn't like that the stripper / his friend / whover got murdered and it bothered him for 5 seconds and then he internalizes it" is to be seen as complex at least. Having the tiniest of consciences that feeds into an anxiety disorder just isn't some super complex character to me.I honestly feel the same way about Succession, while it is inarguably well made I just have no lasting warmth towards it because I hate all of the characters. It's never boring to me though ,that Tony is boring and not a complex character. I don't think I've ever seen that POV before
This Anamanaguchi album should have made my albums of the decade list. Its still on the frequent.
Never heard an album like it, its absolute magic
Hmm might have to peep this later
I think I actually like The Irishman more now, which is wild
Same; several other's not far off from it.. but Goodfellas is at the top.
Goodfellas is, well, good. But nothing tops Godfather II and/or Casino for me.

Godfather II probably at the top though

Shit, A Bronx Tale is high up there for me, too
It's definitely a take you're not likely to hear more than once hahacasino above goodfellas is an interesting and respectable take

I dont think ive seen it all the way through tbh
There's definitely a lot of Scorsese influence in it
I watched up to the end of Season 2 of The Wire back in high school but stopped for whatever reason, its been like five years at least since I watched it. I think I'll try finish the Sopranos first.
Fwiw I used to be super into the Goodfellas but now it feels a little, juvenile? Idk, I prefer The Irishman and the Sopranos. I've yet to see Casino and Once Upon a Time in America too.
